Simple Removal for Full Bed Access

B&W Companion Simple Removal

With the Companion from B&W, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to a custom underbed mounting kit with the included components. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work. When you're done towing, the entire hitch can be removed for complete bed access.

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Assembly of the B&W Companion

The Companion's pivot arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance. To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

Not only does this kit provide you with a sturdy, custom base for installing your Companion fifth-wheel trailer hitch in the bed of your truck, but it also doubles as one of the most recognizable gooseneck hitches on the market. This fifth wheel installation kit actually is the Turnoverball gooseneck hitch from B&W.

Gooseneck Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 30,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 7,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"

B&W Companion Installed in Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

With the B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch you get the best of both worlds. When you go to tow a gooseneck trailer, the Turnoverball creates a sturdy, dependable connection with your trailer. And when you're done towing, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch to get full bed access and a clean appearance. When you're ready to tow your fifth wheel trailer, just install the Companion in the ball hole in place of the gooseneck ball and lock the post in place using the built-in handle. You can remove the fifth wheel when you're done towing, leaving your truck bed open once again.

Simple, Custom Installation

This kit is custom designed for your vehicle. The mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.

Once you have the brackets and center section installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the mounting post of the Companion (or the base of the gooseneck hitch ball).

well worth the money. this hitch is the best that money can buy, best ratings, best safety, best performance hands down. I now have two ways to tow, gooseneck and traditional 5th wheel receiver, and a third if you count the class III rear receiver hitch under the rear bumper. all bases have been covered for me.

its been a year and still going strong. Ive taken many trips and the hitch has held strong and reliable. I couldnt ask for more, except... it is heavy, so removing the base unit to utilize the bed is troublesome if youre removing it yourself like I have to. Simple solution though, I bought a gantry crane so now all i do is drive under the crane, hook up to the hitch and remove with a winch. Easy peasy!

by: Anthony03/11/2023

Extremely easy install. You will need a torque wrench that’ll go up to 110 ft/lbs. glad I did my research and went with the B&w gooseneck hitch in anticipation of getting this 5th wheel companion hitch at a later time.

by: Jeremy05/08/2023

Fast shipping and the box was in perfect condition. I appreciate the amazing customer service. They were friendly and had a good attitude when I called with questions. I look forward to shopping with them in the future. The shipping company called ahead of time and scheduled the delivery because it was such a large item they were friendly and was within their timeframe. Thank you etrailer.com I appreciate it.

by: Mark01/30/2023

Really like this unit with the slide option. With the under the bed option it is also nice that I can remove it and have full bed access. The slide is great as maneuvering is improved significantly without worry of hitting your cab. Assembly is simple. It is heavy so be prepared when installing to have some help but can be handled pretty easily.

by: Scott 04/03/2024

Easy to install and nice to have it hidden under the truck bed. Converted 5th wheel over to a gooseneck and couldn't be happier with the ride now.

by: Justin & Diana10/15/2023

Outstanding product! Purchased for a 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 w/6.4L Hemi. It took my wife & I about 8 hours to install & everything went together nicely. ~2 hour delay because I wasn’t paying attention & installed the base backwards & had to build a gantry to lift it out. I definitely recommend greasing the round hitch receiver in the bed floor & the square hitch in the base before installing to make removal easier. I recommend the product & looking forward to years of goose neck & 5th wheel hitch use.

by: Tim03/18/2018

This hitch is one fine piece of equipment. Instructions were perfectly detailed and if that's not enough there are videos to guide you. Installed in 4 hours with no problems. Haven't gone anywhere yet but did hook up to camper and was impressed. 2017 Ram 2500 Short Bed

by: Gary 12/12/2023

This hitch works extremely well. The slide is nice if you get into any tight cornering situations. The hitch top and base separate making it a bit easier to mount and unmount. The lock washer used with the mounting bolt that draws up against the gooseneck pin broke on the 2nd use. I had 2 different torque wrenches set to 79 lbs that I tested the bolt with. Unsure why it broke. But overall we love this hitch and we pull a 38f 5ver without issue. Very smooth ride.

A one person install was a challenge, but everything matched up perfectly! Love the final look and performance! Instructions were great and detailed, videos were definatly necessary.

by: Ken10/31/2023

There is a slapping noise or a bumping coming from the fifth wheel can't seem to find it and I don't know if something is wearing out been finding metal shaving in the bed not big one's but enough to concern me though maybe you might have some insight about this?
This starting happening about 6 months of Use.

by: Tripp01/30/2017

Works great. Love the slide feature. Let's me move the clack back so I can fuel up the generator without needing to unhook. Coach just floates behind truck with this hitch. Super simple to hookup and unhook as well.

by: Michael05/14/2021

Too heavy for one person to install unless you did what I had to do (alone without any help). Removed the bolt from the tailgate end of the roller tubes, pulled the tubes out and separated the upper assemble from the lower bed contact assembly. Doing that allowed me to lift each piece into the bed without tracking down a neighbor.

by: Mark 03/13/2023

We bought a 30-foot 5th wheel that came with an Andersen Ultimate hitch. Tow vehicle is an F250 short bed. After setting up the rig with the Andersen, I wasn't satisfied with the clearances, both cab and bed. Since the turn-over ball was already installed, this hitch was perfect for going to the traditional 5th wheel hitch and it solved all of my clearance concerns.

by: Agustin 09/20/2023

Great for short beds, I can back into spaces or get myself out of smaller than expected gas stations with no worry if contacting with the trailer. For sure recommend and also being able to visual see when the hitch is properly closed on the pin is always great.

by: Michael11/08/2023

Install was not that complicated. Use it to pull 41’ 5th wheel. Slider sure comes in handy

by: Don10/15/2019

Excellent experience all the way around! From customer service to sales all the way to will call. Product was easy to install and works excellent.

by: Jonathan06/06/2021

This was a perfect bolt on for my 04 F350 6.0 CCLB I have duals on mine and I had to unbolt the exhaust the whole way up to the transmission crossmember so I had room to drill etc over the driver side tailpipe

by: Harry08/15/2023

We have towed a 5th wheel camping trailer over 5,000 miles so far with the BW hitch with no problems. We find it easy to hitch up and go. Very happy with this 5th wheel hitch.

I have received this package, but have not yet installed it. It was recommended by a reliable friend, and I anticipate it will perform as advertised.

Adam at E-Trailer did an outstanding job confirming the correct package for my truck, arranging delivery, and specifying the other equipment I will need to tow my new trailer. Thank you Adam!

2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty

This is an excellent product. It was recommended to me by more than one person who were both huge fans of it. Installation is a lengthy process. and I had a little trouble with interference with a brake line, but that is nothing against the product itself. Very high quality, and very good instructions for installation. Love how it has so little impact on the usability of the truck bed.

by: Dennis A.02/02/2019

Was as described very heavy, I would have given 5 stars but after installing I tried to take up. Not gonna happen unless I have some kind of hoist.

by: Mitchell 05/04/2024

Very happy with the quality

by: Bertram10/14/2023

Great customer service! The phone only rang twice when I called in regarding my order before a human being picked up who was knowledgeable and kind. It was like I was back in time before automated robots became mainstream and American jobs were outsourced. Earned my business, will come back for more.

by: Ben 02/17/2024

Great product that is well build and very easy to install. Only took me a short time to install and the product arrived at my house with no issues. Only thing to consider with this product is that it is heavy to consider that when handling it.

This hitch is designed to attach in the existing empty gooseneck ball hole. The slider function is designed for short bed trucks to allow the trailer to move farther back from the cab when making 90 degree turns so it doesn't make contact. • Since you said you want to use your 2002 F-350 for a gooseneck and a fifth wheel I recommend the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # BWRVK3500-5W and part # BWGNRK1108-5W. This system requires no drilling in to the frame of your truck and gives you both the fifth wheel hitch and a gooseneck hitch, and also an empty bed that can be used for cargo when you are not towing . I have attached a link to an installation video for the custom installation kit you can check out. I

  • Recommended Under-Bed 5th Wheel Rails And 5th Wheel Hitch For 2009 Ford F-250 w/ 8 Bed
  • Absolutely! Starting with the under-bed rails I highly recommend the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1108-5W which is actually a gooseneck hitch but allows you to mount select 5th wheel hitches and is the best option for under bed rails currently available. Now for a 5th wheel hitch I recommend B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3500-5W which has a 20000lb weight capacity, and has the premium features

  • 5th Wheel Install Kit & Hitch for a 2018 Ford F-150 w/5-1/2 Foot Bed & Trailer w/Revolution Pin Box
  • You would need to go with an above bed rail system because there are no compatible under bed 5th wheel mounts for the 2018 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot bed. For an installation kit I recommend Reese custom kit # RP56034-53. This kit is the easiest to install because the connections between the rails and frame brackets are all on the outboards sides of the frame where they are easier to reach. For a 5th wheel hitch the Reese 16K # RP30047 is the tried and true workhorse. It has been

  • Can AirLift Air Bags and a B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch be Installed on a 2005 Ford F-250
  • I do have an option for you. However, the AirLift air bag kit # AL88291 is designed to work only on trucks with a B&W fifth wheel hitch 1105 or 1199R, both of which are obsolete. Instad, take a look at the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57397 (2WD) or # AL57398 (4WD). These kits are 100% compatible with your Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1108-5W. I confirmed this with my contact at Air Lift.

  • Will Reese Revolution Pin Box Work with B&W Companion Hitch for a 2000 Ford F-250
  • The B&W Companion hitches that fit only in the gooseneck ball hole cannot be used with Reese Revolution/Sidewinder pin boxes because the pivot point is locked out at the hitch head. When using a Reese Revolution or Sidewinder style pin box the pivot point is required to be locked out due to the lateral force exerted on the hitch, like the one your referenced # BWGNRK1108-5W, would cause it to rotate in the bed damaging the hitch and install kit. The option that will work for you is the

  • B and W Gooseneck Hitch and Firestone Air Bag Kit Recommendation for a 2009 Ford F350 SD
  • I am not sure who you spoke with, but the # F2452 does mount to the outside of the frame rails which is the same place as where the B and W # BWGNRK1108-5W will install. The best solution I can provide would be to go with the # F2550 instead of what you have so that you can install the B and W rails and the Companion # BWRVK3500 because there are no under-bed mount gooseneck hitches that are compatible with # F2452

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Gooseneck Trailer Hitch be Installed in a 1999 Ford Super Duty
  • Yes, you can put both a 5th wheel hitch and gooseneck hitch in your 1999 Ford Super Duty. If you have a short bed you will need gooseneck hitch and installation kit # BWGNRK1108-5W. Then you can use the B and W companion hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. If you have a long bed you can use the same gooseneck hitch and install kit # BWGNRK1108-5W but the companion 5th wheel hitch you would need is # BWRVK3500-5W. The only other way to tow both types of trailers is to install either a gooseneck

  • Difference Between B and W Turnoverball Part Numbers # BWGNRK1108 and BWGNRK1108-5W
  • The two part numbers are actually the same rail kit/gooseneck hitch. Since they appear in the fitguide for both the gooseneck and fifth wheel hitches though we gave them slightly different part numbers to make it easier for us to organize. For your 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty the Turnoverball rail kit part # BWGNRK1108 or # BWGNRK1108-5W is the correct kit and would work well for you.

  • Can B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3400-5W Install in F-350 with Bed Liner Installed
  • If your 2005 Ford F-350 has a sprayed-on bed liner then you're all set to install your B&W Companion. If it has a drop-in plastic liner then the liner will have to be trimmed out to allow the hitch base's "feet" to reach down to the actual truck bed itself. You may also need to trim around the gooseneck ball. The B&W Companion is among the most versatile hitch systems available and I have linked for you an installation video showing its use in a 2004 F-350.

  • Best Way to Tow Gooseneck and 5th Wheel With 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty
  • We do have a great solution for you that will allow you to tow both a gooseneck and fifth wheel trailer with your 2008 Ford F-350, but there is not a combination puck system and gooseneck like the Ford factory prep package. The best option by far for an underbed gooseneck is the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1108-5W because it has a square base for its hitch ball which ensures optimal strength and durability; I have added a photo showing this installed in

  • 5th wheel puck/goose neck system for 2000 f350- WHAT KIND OF AIRBAGS?
  • I have a solution for you, but unfortunately there is not an aftermarket combination Gooseneck hitch and puck system mounting kit available for your 2000 Ford F-350. Additionally, without knowing which air bag system you have installed, it's tough to confirm what will be compatible. With that being said, the best way to tow a 5th wheel and also have a gooseneck hitch available in your truck is by using the B&W Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1108-5W paired with the B&W Companion

  • Recommended Under Bed 5th Wheel System for a 2008 Ford F-250
  • We have something similar but there is no way to put a prep package in your 2008 Ford F-250. Instead, you will want the Custom Underbed Installation Kit item # BWGNRK1108-5W. This system installs beneath your bed and gives you a square gooseneck receiver which is a mounting point for the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3500-5W. These two parts combined will give you a 20,000 lbs towing capacity. When you are not towing your 5th wheel trailer you can remove the Companion hitch and have a completely

  • Can BandW Underbed 5th Wheel Install Kit # BWGNRK1108-5W Fit 2010 F-350 Dually with OEM Bedliner
  • If your F-350 OEM bed liner is the drop-in type, then it will have to be trimmed to allow for any 5th wheel installation. Your tonneau cover should pose no issue, however. Spray-on bed liners are compatible with 5th wheel installations but the drop-in type has to be trimmed for installing the BandW Companion hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. Metal-to-metal contact is necessary for safe installation of a 5th wheel. This is covered in the written instructions from BandW, which are attached. This

  • Will a B&W 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit a 2006 Ford F-350 with Firestone Air Bags 2400
  • Since the B&W installation kit # BWGNRK1108-5W also uses a 3/4 inch bolt in the center hole that Firestone Ride-Rite kit # F2400 uses, and because the hitch brackets mount to the outsides of the frame and the air bag brackets on the insides of the frame, these 2 components will work together. Installation kit # BWGNRK1108-5W is correct for a 2006 Ford F-350 long bed or short bed. Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W is the correct hitch for a long bed. For a short bed use # BWRVK3400-5W. Once the
