Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

  • SumoSpring Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 1997 Fleetwood Bounder on F-53 Chassis
Your 1997 Fleetwood Bounder is built on a Ford F-53 chassis which we do have SumoSpring fits for. For the front axle you'd want the part # SSF-172-40-2 and then for the rear part # SSR-185-40-1 and you'd be set!

  • Is Removal of Wheels Required When Installing SumoSprings on a 2001 Winnebago
Although it isn't required, I do recommend removing your wheels when you install the Front # SSF-170-40-2 and Rear # SSR-185-40-1 SumoSprings on your 2001 Winnebago. I spoke with my contact at SumoSprings who said that they have heard of people installing the kits without removing the wheels but the wheels do restrict the amount of room you have to operate quite a bit so it would be much easier without the wheels in the way. Attached are the installation instructions for you to check out...

  • SumoSprings Helper Springs Fit for 1999 Fleetwood Bounder Motor Home on F-53 Chassis
For your 1999 F-53 chassis, there are 2 different SumoSprings help spring options, and the correct kit for your motor home will depend on the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). If your motor home's GVWR is between 16,000 pounds and 18,000 pounds, you will want to use the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs, Rear Axle # SSR-185-40-1. These springs have a weight capacity of 3,000 pounds. No drilling is required to install this kit and the installation instructions are linked...

  • Compatibility of a Rear Suspension Helper on a 1998 Ford E350 Class C Motorhome
I can help find rear suspension help for the 1998 E350 Class C Motorhome. SuperSprings # SSA34 offers a leaf spring style rear suspension stabilizer for your Motorhome if it is a Dual Wheel application. These springs provide 1,900lbs. of additional load leveling ability. For a similar bag you were looking at with the # SSR-185-40-1, I would suggest the Timbren # TFER35092B. This system will offer a 3,600lbs. capacity and will easily install with no drilling. Firestone # F2061 and AirLift...

  • Correct SumoSprings for 2000 Fleetwood Southwind on Ford F-53 Chassis
For your 2000 Fleetwood Southwind Motorhome you need the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSF-172-40-2 for the front and the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-187-54-1 for the rear. Although the # SSR-185-40-1 is confirmed to fit the F-53 it does not fit your Fleetwood Southwind. These will do an excellent job together to improve the ride on your motorhome. They will absorb bumps and shocks while minimizing sway. This will make it easier to drive and reduce fatigue...

  • Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2000 Pace Arrow 36z Motorhome on Ford F53 Chassis
The SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit # SSA41 is a confirmed fit for your 2000 Pace Arrow 36z on Ford F53 chassis. These springs will install over your current springs and will automatically adjust to reduce sway and prevent sagging. Your other option for suspension in the rear is the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-185-40-1. These springs mount to your chassis on the top and bottom to maintain support even when not under load....

  • Can You Upgrade the Front Sway Bar On a 1996 Tiffin Allegro Motorhome
The Roadmaster Polyurethane Bushing Kit for Factory Front Anti-Sway Bars part # RM-4139-127 will fit your 1996 Tiffin Allegro Motorhome on a Ford F-53 Chassis and like an upgraded front sway bar will work to improve stability. Although they do not offer an actual upgraded front sway bar for your motorhome, the bushing kit is the next best thing as it will really tighten up the what I assume are very worn out factory bushings. These new bushings are made of polyurethane which are much stiffer...

  • Will SumoSprings for a 1999 Itasca Sunrise Improve Ride Quality
Yes, the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs will help to smooth out the ride on a Ford F-53 Chassis. The anti-sway bars and steering stabilizers help with stability but don't really do much for ride quality. The springs however work as a cushion between the body and frame therefore offer improvements in ride quality. The correct kit for the rear is part # SSR-185-40-1 and part # SSF-172-40-2 for the front. I suggest the rear if only doing one but both is better.

  • Correct SumoSprings for a 1999 Georgie Boy Class A Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis with 18K GVWR
The correct SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for a 1999 Georgie Boy Class A Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis with 18,000 GVWR is part # SSF-172-40-2 for the front and part # SSR-185-40-1 for the rear. These are one of the most popular upgrades you can make to the motorhome and they will go a great job of improving stability i.e. reducing body roll, improving ride quality i.e. absorbing road shock, and providing extra support.
