Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I was very happy with the hitch, easy to install and is very well designed. Thanks 599217

Great hitch, fits my car like a glove. I haven't towed with it yet but I have no reason to think there are going to be any issues. One thing I have to say though - the installation video on the site makes it look hillariously easy to install this hitch. Two experienced guys with a shop lift isn't the same as a couple everyday garage nerds with a couple ramps. While there is no wizardry involved, the hitch is incredibly heavy and very awkward to hold up in place. However, the instructions are clear and concise... all I'm saying is that make sure you have help and realize it may take a bit longer than stated. I did not drop the exhaust as they did in the video. It might have made the passenger side a little easier, but I didn't see any great advantage to doing this. One other thing - I was shorted some hardware for the hitch, but etrailer.com was very quick in responding and contacting the manufacturer to have a new hardware kit drop shipped. Took a few extra days, but things happen. It was certainly nice to have the extra fish wires. :) 507987

Once installed, it looks and works great! Some tips on the installation that helped my wife and me. Watch the installation video and have it available on your phone as you go through the steps. Also you will need to get under your car and it's tight. We used camper leveling squares to raise our Subaru 4", that gave us the working room we needed. The instructions say it's a 20 minute installation for a professional. It took my wife and I two hours, which is two hours faster than I thought it would take us. 670623

2018 Honda CR-V

I ordered a hitch on 4-4-18 for our 2018 Honda CR-V and received it on 4-9-18 as promised. I ordered a 1.25" receiver but received a 2". I believe the mix-up was due to incorrect packaging & not etrailer's fault. I notified etrailer of the problem & they immediately began to correct it. They sent me a return authorization for the one I received & started looking for the one I needed. I was notified on 4-10-18 that they had shipped a replacement. On 4-11-18 I sent the incorrect hitch back to etrailer and on 4-12-18 I received the replacement. This all transpired within 7 working days. I haven't installed the hitch yet but am confident it will fit. Great folks to work with; would definitely recommend them to anyone else. Thanks again Christie K. & George J. at etrailer. 495549

2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Ordered on a Monday, delivered on Thursday, installed on Friday, and put to use on Saturday! The whole process went very smoothly. I watched the install video a couple times before hitch arrived and didn't have any real issues getting it installed. It took me about an hour but that's because I did it solo and without ramps. The video showed that you needed to expand one of the holes in the car frame, but I was able to get the install done without having to expand them. Overall, I'm very pleased. Transaction and install were pain free and the hitch did exactly what I wanted it for...to be able to use my hitch mounted bike rack on my Crosstrek instead of having to use the wife's Suburban every time I needed to use the bike rack. 541605

PERFORMANCE: This hitch receiver doesn't stick out beyond the back bumper and even though I scrape the ground in some driveways with other vehicles, it doesn't cause my 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek to scrape anyway unless I've got a three-ball hitch in the receiver. I don't tow things often, so I usually don't have the hitch in the receiver. The whole construction feels incredibly solid, and I'm very glad I picked the 2" version instead of the smaller one. Reviews for the smaller one suggest that it sags over time. The XV Crosstrek has a cutout in the bumper for a hitch receiver, but even the OEM hitch receiver from Subaru of America doesn't use it. It's only used in Austria or some other country. There is another brand which is much more difficult to install (you gotta remove the bumper) and it's much more expensive, so I opted for this instead. I'm happy with my choice. INSTALLATION: I installed it on a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek without jacking up the back end or anything. Opening up the holes in the spare tire compartment would have been easier with a step drill bit or a dremil but I didn't have either. That was the hardest part, but once I got those holes widened I was able to use a standard ramp under the mounting location of one side of the hitch to hold the hitch up while I put the nuts on the other side. Then I moved to the side I had propped up and put nuts on it. After that it was just a matter of tightening up the bolts evenly. Using the ramp made this a one-person job. SOURCING: I shopped around a lot before picking a source, and the prices seemed to be similar wherever I looked, but eTrailer seemed to be the strongest company to get it from. Usually I buy things from Amazon or eBay. I could have gotten a hitch from uHaul too but I loath the idea of advertising for them. 461354

Came with large scratches. Packaging was very poor with no protection of the hitch during shipping. Heavy rust on metal after 1 year. Works great but the paint quality is poor. 526759

Comments
The manufacturer recommends using Krylon Gloss Rough Tuff enamel spray paint to touch up any scratches. Please make sure that you do remove all surface rust before applying any paint, so that you do not seal it in and make it worse. You can usually do some light sanding and remove any existing rust before touching up your hitch. I have also included a link to one our help articles that you may find useful.

Great hitch receiver that went in with relatively little pain. Wheel ramps made it easier and I would recommend spending the money if you're going to install this in your driveway. The only real hassle was the rearward, passenger-side nut that requires a deep socket to clear the bolt at it comes though. All in all, the total installation was about 30 minutes, but I was a bit lazy and didn't lower the muffler (didn't need to). I would strongly recommend this receiver over the others as this is spec'd to handle bike racks (it's main purpose for me) without a strap. As an additional step, I also sprayed the bolts and nuts with Plasti-Dip to rust-proof them while allowing the ability to peel it off in case of service (not that I see that happening). Great hitch receiver! 420379

I purchased the Draw-Tite hitch for my daughter’s 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. I purchased the Draw-Tite over some other brands after watching a very good etrailer video that provided an honest and unbiased review between the different brands. What I really liked about the Draw-Tite was there was no extra expansion required of any of the existing frame holes and it did not need any strapping for non-wheeled accessories like a bike rack. The hitch is supper solid and mounted well. I also think the round tube design of the Draw-Tite looks very good on the Subie Crosstrek. The installation videos available by etrailer were fantastic. They had a tip in one of them about using a piece of clear packing tape to hold the rear spacer in place to help get the nuts started which worked very well. From watching these videos I was almost able to meet the 20 minute “professional” installer estimated time from the paper instructions and I am no professional. I never would of done that well installing the hitch from just reading the paper directions. My daughter plans to use the hitch with a bike rack. She does triathlons on a college team and this will provide a snug and solid ride for her bikes. She comes off of using a strap mounted bike rack for her deceased Honda civic and she is super excited about getting the Subie with the hitch rack. I believe this hitch teamed with a receiver bike rack will provide a more solid carrier for the bikes. I had purchased two other hitches from etrailer for other cars in our family fleet … this being my third hitch purchased from etrailer. Their good pricing, service, knowledge of their product and installation videos make me a returning customer and etrailer will continue to be my go-to source for any hitches, racks and accessories. 718941

Subaru XV Crosstrek

Before I write the review of the installation, I can't stress enough watching the video of the installation on the Subaru Crosstrek. I used to install hitches for trailer rental company so wasn't worried about the actual install but by reviewing the videos before my hitch even arrived allowed me to quick and easily install it. Those are a great resource that etrailer.com provides. Since I didn't have a lift, I used a set of car ramps to get the rear of the car high enough. It was just a little too high to lay down and work but not quite high enough to sit up and work... However, I strongly recommend finding a way to safely lift up the rear to do this install. The hitch itself, what can I really say, bolted on easily, I like the tab for holding the wiring. I ran the wiring first and ran it through one of the drain plugs in the bottom of the spare tire area so that it's always ready to use. This should give us years of great use and light duty towing. NOTE: The hitch is rated much higher than the car is for weight, we went with it because of accessories we already own being 2". 364079

Solid hitch that was very straight-forward to install. etrailer made identifying the correct hitch easy and included or provided what I need to put it on my Subaru Crosstrek. Recently purchased a heavy duty bike rack for the hitch and they have not trouble at all. 804675

Overall, the product was well described and accurately portrayed in videos and pictures. Using the instructional video of how to mount the hitch was extremely useful, and prepared me well. Besides the videos and website guides, etrailer did an excellent job of processing and shipping the order quickly. The product itself was exactly as described on the website. The hitch receiver fits well on the vehicle and is hardly noticeable. One major negative, is the fact that the paint on the receiver is easily chipped. The package was damaged during shipping, and caused it to have some paint chips, and it also chipped while sitting on the shop floor before mounting. 802438

“FITS 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2” I purchased a bolt on draw Tite for my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. When following the steps exactly, and watching the video and completing each step in order the hitch was not correctly formatted for the vehicle to easily install. It took two hours with two people and pry bars to get the hitch to align with bolts, after bending the exhaust brackets that is fixed to the car. I believe the 2018 has exhaust brackets that were not accounted for. I want to provide this feedback as it was extremely frustrating, the hitch assembly needs another inch on both sides to allow for easy adjustments otherwise 20 min installation Would never be possible, we work on vehicles frequently and this was incredibly difficult. 794506

Was able to install this hitch on my 2016 Crosstrek myself without lowering the muffler and not jacking up the vehicle. Read other review and having 2 auto jack stands to rest the round tube of the hutch on was the best advice. The picture attached was taken after the install but you get the idea... Just take your time aligning the bolts to the hitch holes once you take off the fish wires and ready to install the nuts and tilting to install the rear spacer you should be all set. 721727

Subaru XV Crosstrek

This is a strong hitch. It fits easily (Subaru xv '14) and all the included hardware was compatible. The install video was worth watching - good hints about how to support the exhaust when you pop it off the hangers. Install took about an hour with a few distractions and a few trips to the toolbox to find the right socket extensions, etc. The paint could have been a bit thicker or harder... It has a few nicks in it that will probably eventually start to rust. Overall price to value seems high. 699909

Looks well made, fits well and was able to 'angle" it in without messing with exhaust system. Instructions for getting bolts place with wire was a little confusing, but the suggestion of making a "bend" to "catch" the internal plate as a good one (suggest picture of this instead of sketch). It should be easy to remove and secure the bolts when not needed. 693291

I recommend the Draw Tite though because if you were to ever carry a bike rack you wouldn't have to use a stabilizer strap like the Curt requires with non-supported loads like bike racks. Aside from that the Draw Tite has a round cross tube and the Curt has a square. Some argue that the round is less visible.

All of the trailer hitches for the 2017 Subaru Impreza are Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers. If you have a 5-door wagon model with single exhaust you can use trailer hitch # DT24959. For the sedan you can use # 24960. If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Cargo Carrier for 2016 Subaru Impreza Wagon
The only trailer hitch that will fit your 2016 Subaru Impreza Wagon that's rated high enough for a cargo carrier with a deer on it is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Class III # 76084. It has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 525 pounds which will plenty for you. We don't have any pictures of it on an Impreza so I don't know how hidden it will be but it's coated with a black powder finish over an e-coat finish for rust protection. The Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 is one of the largest carriers...

  • Which Draw Tite Hitch Fits a 2015 Subaru Impreza Sedan
The correct Draw Tite hitch fit for a 2015 Subaru Impreza Sedan is the part # 24961 actually. The 76084 you mentioned is for similar Subarus but not the Impreza.

  • Class III Trailer Hitch with 2 Inch Receiver for a 2015 Subaru Impreza Sport 5-Door Hatchback
I think the confusion is in the use of the term wagon. It appears that for 2015 there were no wagon models, just 4-door sedans and 5-door hatchbacks. So if you look at the video I have linked for Curt trailer hitch # C11286 you will see it is an Impreza Sport 5-door hatchback which hitch manufacturers are calling the wagon. If yours looks like the one in the video then Draw-Tite hitch # 76084, shown for wagons, would fit provided your model has a single exhaust pipe.

  • Hitch and 2 Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
For your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek the Draw Tite part # 76084 is a confirmed fit and would work well for carrying a platform bike rack like you are interested in. Unlike the Curt it would not require a stabilizer strap. The Yakima TwoTimer part # Y02468 would then fit this hitch and work well. At a lower price point but for a similar rack I really like the Hollywood Racks # HR200Z as it is much more stable over bumps. If you check out the test course video I attached for the two racks...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
When we installed the Draw Tite part # 76084 and Curt # C13135 on a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek we found that they both had identical ground clearance. Both measured exactly 14 inches from the top of the hitch opening to the ground. I'd go with the Draw Tite over the Curt though. Reason being that if you ever were to need to carry a bike rack the Curt requires you to use a stabilizer strap and the Draw Tite does not.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2016 Subaru Crosstrek
The tongue weight figure for a trailer hitch like the part # 76084 that you referenced accounts for the movement and additional force that would be put on the hitch while traveling on the road. So the capacity is a static figure but it's also under rated so that the things mentioned do not overload it. This hitch can be used to tow a trailer with dirt bikes as well pretty easily too. For trailer wiring you'd want the part # 118467. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested...

  • How to Carry 2 Bikes on Both a Vehicle and an RV
In order to carry a bike or tow a trailer with your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek you will need a trailer hitch receiver. For this, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76084 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. This hitch has a 525 lb max tongue weight (TW) rating and a 3,500 lb max gross trailer weight (GTW) rating. You will want to check in your owner's manual for the vehicle's towing capacity as the lower of the two (hitch/vehicle)...

  • What is the Stabilizing Strap that Curt Requires for Some of Their Trailer Hitches
Out of the Curt trailer hitch part # C11286 and part # C13135 for your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek I recommend going with the part # C13135 as it has 2 inch receiver opening so it will be compatible with a wider range of accessories. Installation videos have been attached for both options. As you read, per the Curt warranty a stabilization strap must be used for all non-trailer loads. The reason being that they are not supported by their own set of wheels like a trailer would be. A stabilization...

  • Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid
I spoke with Curt and verified that the correct trailer wiring harness for a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56243. They said the reason is the other harness is multi-fit for a number of vehicles and this harness is specifically made for the XV Crosstrek & Crosstrek. So according to Curt the issue is simply compatibility as they are essentially different vehicles despite having the Crosstrek title. If you are looking for a hitch for your...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Subaru Crosstrek that Doesn't Require Stabilizer Strap
With platform bike racks the stabilizer strap like part # 18050 does require a bit more creativity but we have come up with a solution. What you need to do is run the strap through the bike frame and then around the center post of the bike rack and then back to the trunk lid. Check out the picture I attached for more info. Or the easier alternative for your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek is get a hitch like the Draw Tite part # 76084 which does not require the strap at all. This would give you...
