Video Transcript for Setting up the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2007 Dodge Durango

Today on this 2007 Dodge Durango we will be installing Curt hitch part number 13296. The first thing we want to do in preparation to installing our hitch is to remove the spare tire to get it out of our way. Looking at the driver side frame rail at the inboard side we have got two attach bolts here and one free bolt here on the forward side. We are going to need to remove the two here at the rear of the vehicle and the third one we are actually just going to remove the nut from the outboard side. We are going to reuse this bolt for our hitch installation and that will be the same for the passenger side as well. For the forward bolt we just want to push it through. You can see they will not fully come out because it is hitting on the body mount here. We want to push it back far enough to where the bolt sits about even with the flange here at the bottom side of the bumper bracket. At the two rear most attaching points we are going to be putting in new bolts along with the flat washer. We just want to slide those through just about the same position as the forward most fastener. 01:00

The hitch is going to mount to the outboard side of the frame and we want to be able to get it up and around into position without hitting the threads of the bolt. We are going to be adding spacer blocks to the outboard side of the frame. This is going to shim up the extra space that we have for the curled under the edge of the bumper brackets. We just want to repeat that set up for the passenger side and put the hitch up into position. On the forward most fasteners we will be reusing the existing nut. On the two rear most fasteners we will be using the new flange nut that is provided with our installation kit. With all of the bolts into place we can start torquing them down. Check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. With the trailer hitch installed, from the ground to the top of the receiver tube is 19 inches and from the center of the pin hole to the back edge of the bumper is about two inches. With the bolts torqued down we just want to make sure we put our spare tire back up into place and our installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of Curt hitch part number 13296 on a 2007 Dodge Durango.

Installation was fairly easy - Removing the existing bolts took longer than bolting up the hitch. How did I do it by myself? Check out the picture - Easy as could be!

2009 dodge durangoI purchased this hitch and the wiring kit and it was at my house within a week. It was super easy to install with the right tools. It looks nice and I am very happy with the durability and price I paid. The wiring kit was great. I had a wiring mechanic install it and he said he will recommended this kit to all his customers. Way to go etrade.

Mimi, do you have a hybrid durango?

We reached out to Mimi but didn't get a reply. I spoke with some hitch manufacturers and they didn't test the hitch on a Hybrid because the production numbers were so low. It looks like only 400 hybrid Durangos and Aspens were produced, but that's uncertain. The concern with fitment is not the frame. The frame should be the same regardless of engine type. What would be the concern is if the battery array for the electric drive were in the rear trunk/cargo area. If you want, snap some photos of the underside rear of your Durango Hybrid and we'll compare it to the photos we have of a 2009 with a hitch and we'll see if there looks to be any interference.

Of the two available hitches for an 09 Dodge Durango this was the most heavy duty. Installed it myself with no problem. Pulled a [moving] trailer with a M/C 1600 miles with no problem. Bolts solid to the frame so also provides great rear end protection if rear ended.

very easy to install, looks good and dies what it was designed to do. It hasn't seen much weather or miles yet so time will tell if the paint holds up.

Not so bad...This hitch is for those that want to do it themselves in the driveway/garage. NO drilling, just need WD40, a LONG socket wrench/breaker bar, and a bucket or a wife willing to help. Check out the online video's if necessary, remember 2004+ Durangos are all built the same underneath basically.
This hitch is POSITIONED UNDER the bumper and not in the notch that is available, the other type of hitch that requires drilling/cutting and bumper removal to install fits there (much harder to install yourself).
Over all i am happy, it does the job, but what i don't like is the exhaust now blows into the hitch, sounds different now... and of course i wish it had fit in the notch to make it look uniform.

This tow package fits perfect easy install was done in 20mins and had help from etrailer with which wiring was for the truck. For install use outside nuts inside bolts don't move. And make sure to use new bolt old bolts don't line up in rear. Single bolt infront still use and don't pull it out all the way. If you do its very hard to get back in.

Easy to install in 30 minutes, will come in handy to use on my hunting trips to go along with my carrier and pull my Atv trailer.

by:

Dissapointedshipping was great. The hitch hangs below the bumper and I was hoping it would be more uniform to bumper. My wife is not happy with that.It still looks like it would tow anything though.Installation was hard and I consider myself pretty handy.Im am self employed contractor and have been doing things myself all my life.

Durable. Easy to install. The YouTube video helped more than the written instructions. I highly recommend the product.

by:

Product was described perfectly and easy to install. Video provided on the website made it simple. Had to make a minor adjustment with tailpipe to avoid contact and potential damage to hitch. Not a big deal. E-Trailer's price, service and shipping was awesome. I researched the web and local trailer stores and found them to be the best by a wide margin.

by:

Perfect Fit. Easy InstallationI bought this hitch because I didnt want to pay over $200 for one from the dealership. Installation was very easy. Perfect fit. All the hardware was top quality. Total install time was about 1.5 hours, which is longer than would be necessary because I didn't have the right tools to remove the large bolts. If you have a half inch drive socket set, you are set. This hitch does stick out below the bumper where the factory hitch does not, but the round tube style looks good. Excellent service from etrailer as well.

by:

I had someone install the hitch for me. I do not think he had any problems. He also installed the wiring harness for me. It was all done in one day. It looks great and is serviceable.

Thanks
Ray

Product was as advertised, easy install with 2 people. Watching the installation video before I purchased was a major factor why I purchased this hitch. I would definitely recommend this product to others who want to install their own hitch.

by:

Good solid unit however have to make sure your muffler has the proper clearance or it will rub against one another after installation.

by:
2007 Dodge Durango

The product worked great. Installation was simple enough and can be done with one person although I would recommend a second.

by:
2007 Dodge Durango

This was one of the easiest applications I have ever done. I am use to having to drill holes out bigger to make it fit. No drilling or even adjusting, they have this all figured out.
I give it a A plus

by:

Easy to installInstallation took me a little longer than advertised, but the directions were very straight forward. My tailpipe had to have about half and inch removed from the tip. The product was solid and works well. Shipping was fast and problem free. The people at etrailer kept me informed. I will definately be a repeat coustomer

The hitch shipped on time. And with help from my sun and 8 year old grandson we had it in about one hour. The fit was right on. And it looks good on 2009 Dodge Durango.

Excellent parts with great service! I received my parts within 24 hours of ordering and used the videos provided by etrailer to install them. Everything went perfectly. I appreciate the way this company does business.

Strong product and easy assembly!
Loving
our hitch!!!

by:

Excellent customer service! Knowledgeable and friendly, made it so easy to navigate purchasing a hitch for my SUV.

by:

The product is not what I expected and hangs very low in comparison to the OEM unit. I would have purchased the u-bolt hitch instead.

by:

looks great, fits great.

  • Which Hitch, Trailer Wiring and Ball Mount are Recommended for a 2008 Chrysler Aspen
I think the best and easiest to install hitch would be part # 13296 from Curt. It has a 600 pound tongue weight and 6,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. The wiring kit for the Aspen is part # 118390. It will plug in between your vehicle wiring and the tail lights to grab all the right signals. You will neeed to run a single power wire up to the battery on the Aspen to provide an isolated power source. This allows more lights to be used on the trailer as well as preventing damage to...

  • Will Ultra-Fab Motor Home Trailer Hitch # UF35-946401 Fit a 2008 Chrysler Aspen
The Ultra-Fab Motor Home 2-Inch Trailer Hitch, part # UF35-946401, is intended for installation on the rear of motor homes that have an exposed 4-inch bumper. Installation requires that the bumper be fully open in order to allow the U-bolts to attach securely. This hitch is not suitable for use on your 2008 Chrysler Aspen. The bumper on your vehicle is designed to protect the passengers in the event of an impact. Even if you removed part of the bumper cover to expose the bumper itself,...

  • Will Draw-Tite Hitch part # 75162 Fit My 2009 Dodge Durango and What Wiring is Recommended
Draw-Tite hitch, part # 75162 will fit your 2009 Dodge Durango. All of our hitches include all the nuts and bolts and other hardware needed to install. However, you could use Curt Hitch, part # 13296. This hitch will be much easier to install, almost half the time, and you will not have to drill any holes, but you can see a bit more of the hitch since it has the cross tube. I will include links to an install video of the first hitch, and the instruction sheet for the Curt hitch. If minimizing...
