Video Transcript for Redline Locking L Style Door Handle Review

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out this Redline L-shaped Locking Door Handle. So we put this on our HYK camper. We just turn that, open it, and that can replace an old latch that maybe wore out or broke off on you. So let's check it out. Now there are a few things to look at when you are getting a new handle.

Look at the lock receiver on the other or side. That's what we're looking at right now. And we made sure the measurements we're right, so it's gonna be a 5/16 squared portion. And then the shank's length is gonna be about two and a half inches long. So that's gonna be long enough to fit into this square and be able to turn it to disengage or engage the lock.

Look at the handle. Once of the nice things is it's got a built in lock core there, so you can lock it up. You get two keys with it. So when you can go unlock it and turn it all the way around, and now nobody can mess with this latch when you're not around. The whole handle's gonna be made out of aluminum.

So you don't have to worry about any rusting and corroding when it stays out in any elements. Something else to note is that it's gonna have one and a half inch spacing of the holes. So luckily, that lined up with the handle we already had, so we didn't have to make any new holes in our trailer. One thing I will say though, is it does not come with its own hardware. So you'll have to supply that yourself.

Overall, it works pretty good as a handle. It's a good replacement part. It was nice to be able to replace it pretty quickly with just the two screws. And now it can lock up just like it did before. Well, I think that does it. The thanks for hanging out. I hope this helped..

Redline Locking "L" Style Door Handle - 2-1/2" - 276

Average Customer Rating:  4.4 out of 5 stars   (36 Customer Reviews)

I purchased a used RV, it was delivered without a key. I called Gander Mountain/ Camping World and they told me they could not find the key. They told me to call a lock smith. I called the lock smith and they said they do not replace everything locks. The lock smith told me to go to Gander mountain to have lock replaced. I found a similar lock on etrailer and my neighbor put it on for me. He had to shave the lock to get it to fit. I gave it 4 stars because it had to be shaved down with a machine that I did not have. The lock works and I am extremely happy. I would have been even happier if Gander Mountain would have fixed the RV lock before they sold it and delivered the trailer to me. I am just glad the lock is fixed .

by:

The product was good quality. I gave 4 stars because the first latch and keys I received did not match so I couldn’t work the lock. But to their credit when I wrote and told them and they sent me another latch and keys that matched.

by:

Latch and lock arrived in quick order and was exactly what we needed. So glad to do business with etrailer instead of amzn!

by:

working good used it on log loader door

by:

Ordered this for '87 Casita travel trailer. The post was just a bit too wide to go into the original latch. A minute on the grinder and its been great ever since.

by:

I put them on a 2008 chevy c4500 shuttle bus wheel chair doors. I wish I had gotten both keyed the same but I don't remember seeing the option. The mount holds where a little off but it worked and I wish it had came with gaskets. They seem like quality parts.

by:

I made the install LQQK like a pro did it.

by:

My experience ordering from etrailer was great however, the handle did not fit in my older trailer and I'm unable to return it as I opened it. Also, I was a bit diassapointed that it did not come with any screws.

Comments
The hardware isnt included because the needed hardware will depend on what the door its being mounted on is constructed of and how thick it is.

Great door handles. Still look like new. My only disappointment is that the 2 that I bought are not keyed the same.

by:

It works great! Just had to cut it to size and drill new holes for the pins, but it works. It also is opposite functioning from what I had before, but I'm happy to have a functioning handle again ^_^ Thank you!

by:

A little modification was needed to fit perfectly, it was simply cut off an 1/8 on the square section to allow the unit to sit completely.

Great product, as seen in the pictures. Works well and the customer is happy. This went on a 1992 seagrave pump fire unit.

Thanks for the great pricing and quick shipping.

by:

Just the right handle for replacement. Thanks!

by:

A year later still works great!

by:

Just as ordered

by:

Product arrived within ten days and was exactly what I expected. Description and pictures are accurate. Fit perfectly.

  • Can Redline Locking L Style Door Handle # 276 Turn More than 90 Degrees
There is nothing internally on the Redline Locking "L" Style Door Handle # 276 that keeps it from rotating freely. This will turn more than 90 degrees as long as your existing locking system allows this. This handle features a 2-1/2 inch long shaft that is 5/16 inch square. Two keys are included.

  • Replacement Door Handle For A Casita 2002 16ft. Travel Trailer
Thank you for including your picture. The Redline Locking "L" Style Door Handle # 276 definitely looks to be a replacement but I would also check the measurements between the mounting holes on your Casita to be sure. It is difficult to determine from your picture. The distance between the mounting holes of the Redline Locking "L" Style Door Handle # 276 is approximately 1-1/2 inches and it has a 2-1/2" long x 5/16 inch square shaft.

  • Would Too Much Grease in a Trailer Hub Cause the Grease Caps to Fall Off
You just need to pack the bearings on hub and drum assembly # 8-276-5. There's no such thing as too much grease for bearings! If it is an EZ lube hub with a grease zerk fitting at the end of the spindle you will know there is enough grease once it starts oozing out. You would not pack grease in the hub otherwise and not in the drum since the brakes would not be able to grab with grease in the hub. Grease caps, dust caps, and bearing protectors have to be installed right to avoid losing...

We have the Red Line handle, part # 276, that has a 5/16 inch square shaft. It doesn't look as much like your handle as # PLR7011L, and isn't as heavy-duty, but it's the correct size shank and still locks. This is the closest option to your handle that we carry.

  • Can Brakes be Added to an AL-KO Axle that Uses L44643 Inner and Outer Bearings
There are no brake drums or even disc brakes that will fit a spindle that uses L44643 inner and outer bearings. You would need to replace the axle if you wanted to add brakes. The good news is that you can get axles already set up with brakes. We carry some axles, see link, but if none match up to what you need then you would need to order one to your specifications from a local tractor or trailer supply store. • Bolt Spacing of Dexter 7 Inch Brake Drum/Brake Assembly
If you're speaking of the wheel bolt pattern for the # 8-276-5 Dexter 2200 Brake Hub/Drum, it uses a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. If you're speaking of the # 23-398-399 brake assemblies you'd looked at, the wheel studs are 2-7/8 inches apart, center to center. I've provided a photo showing this.

  • Can 7 x 1-1/4 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes be Used w/Hydraulic Brake Hub for 7 x 1-3/4 Inch Brakes
Hub and drum assembly # 8-276-5 is not a proper fit for 7 x 1-1/4 inch brake assemblies and should not be used with them. I know you are looking to save some money but believe me, you can spend a little now on the correct hub and drum assembly, # 8-173-16UC3, or a lot later after the additional length of the hub stress the bearings and spindles and you are looking at replacing the axles.

You gave me enough info to be able to pick out the correct hub/drums for you axle. What you'll want is the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-276-5UC3. This hub will fit your spindle and has the bolt pattern of 4 on 4 inch that you need. Then for a brake assembly kit we have the part # 23-47-48 which comes with the correct left and right hand assemblies.

I went to the warehouse and measured the hub on both the # 8-173-16UC3-EZ and the # 8-276-5 hub. The outside hub measurement for the 8-173-16UC3-EZ is 2.47-inches. The outside diameter of the hub for the # 8-276-5 hub measures 2.06 inches. Both of these hub assemblies have a 4 on 4-inch bolt pattern so I have attached a link to the tire/wheel combos with 4 on 4 bolt patterns you can check out.

  • Difference Between an Idler Hub and a Hub/Drum
The Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly you referenced, part # AKIHUB-440-2-1K is known as an idler hub. An idler is a hub that is no provisions for trailer brakes. It has no brake drum. Part # 8-276-5 is an example of a hub/ drum that has a brake drum that can be used with a brake assembly like part # 23-47. The # AKIHUB-440-2-1K would be an acceptable replacement for an idler hub with a 4-on-4 bolt pattern that uses # L44643 inner and outer wheel bearings.

Other than that they use # L44649 inner and outer bearings and a 10-9 grease seal that has the 1.5" inner diameter.
