The RetraxPRO XR uses 1" thick aluminum slats with a matte black finish that resists scratches and fading in the sun. The pop-up locking handle lets you secure the cover at any point along the rails, and when it’s closed with the tailgate locked, your cargo stays fully protected. Weather stripping and foam seals around the edges block moisture, snow, and dust, while the overlapping tailgate edge keeps rainwater from seeping in.
If you use racks for bikes, kayaks, ladders, or overland gear, the integrated T-slots on this cover make it simple. The rails accept most T-slot-compatible ladder racks and crossbars from Yakima, Rhino-Rack, Thule, and others. You can mount your rack right to the rails without affecting how the cover opens or closes. That means you keep full use of the truck bed for larger items underneath while carrying extra cargo securely up top.
Opening and closing this cover is quick and easy thanks to sealed ball-bearing rollers that glide along the rails. There are no hinges, springs, or hinges to freeze or jam, and it doesn’t need any lubrication. The cover slides evenly with one hand using the pop-up handle and locks firmly in place when you push the handle down. Because the spiral track system keeps the slats from rubbing together, the cover rolls smoothly and lasts longer.
Built for year-round use, this retractable cover can handle up to 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight. It shrugs off heavy snow, road debris, and UV heat without warping or cracking. The low-profile side rails sit just 1" above the bed for a clean, streamlined look that won’t disrupt your truck’s lines or rack setup. Two drain tubes in the canister route away any water that gets inside, preventing mildew and keeping the mechanism dry.
When you need the entire bed for hauling gear or materials, the cover retracts smoothly into a compact canister at the bulkhead. The angled bottom of the canister leaves more room for cargo underneath, and because you don’t have to remove the cover, you can switch from secure storage to open bed space in seconds. It’s a tough, low-profile system that works as hard as you do—ready for weather, travel, and workday loads.

Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed review RAMDaddy! I would say you definitely got your moneys worth on your last one with the 10 years of use! And valid points on the new cover, it does stink that the canister takes up so much room, but it is still a really nice cover. I hope you get 10 years plus out of this new one =)

Had this on my truck for over a year, outside in the elements every day and it still looks brand new. The finish is tough and durable. It rolls open and closed with ease and the locking mechanism is free and smooth. Couldnt be happier with it.
