Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, and how they may affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

The pewag Servo RS self-tensioning tire chains are great all-purpose, winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable, easy to mount, and give you constant traction - and they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you might want to get a chain with V-bar links that can bite into the ice you need to give you maximum traction.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install. Unlike other self-tensioning chains, the Servo RS have tensioning devices built into the side chains so there's no need to route additional tensioners when you install them. Just make a couple connections, move the button on the ratcheting device to "drive," and you'll be able to see the chains begin to tension. Because they self-tension more and self-center as you drive, these chains will give you a perfect fit, no matter the profile or wear pattern of your tire. Plus, you only have to get out of your vehicle one time - once they're installed, there's no need to drive forward, stop, and check their tension.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the side wall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.
  1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.
  2. Slide the chain behind the tire and connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.
  3. Connect the inner chain to the outer traction chain at the bottom of the tire using the large red hook, then activate the servo device to ratchet the chain tightly into place.
  4. Once all the connections are made, move the switch on the ratchet back to "drive." The rachet will tension the chains, then center and fully tighten them on your wheels as you drive forward, giving you a perfect fit.

Removing the chains is as quick and easy as putting them on. Just move the switch to "open," pull the cable to give the chains some slack, and disconnect.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • What is The Difference Between pewag Servo RS Tire Chains # PWRSV79 & # PWRS79 for 2023 Outback Wild
The pewag Servo RS Tire Chains # PWRSV79 have a thicker chain link of 3.5mm where the Chains # PWRS79 are 3.2mm thick. Both sets are going to be S-class rated which according to the owners manual for your 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness will allow them for use on your front wheels only.

  • 2015 Toyota Sienna AWD Tire Chain Recommendation
I pulled up the owners manual of your 2015 Toyota Sienna AWD and Toyota recommends either putting chains on all 4 tires for maximum traction or just 2 on the front wheels. If you have the tire size of 235/55-18 or 235/60-17 the Titan set part # TC1555 would be a really great choice. Or if you have the tire size 235/50-19 the Pewag set part # PWRSV79 would be an awesome choice. These are both easy to install chains that will provide great traction without breaking the bank.

  • Best Tire Chains for Subaru Outback 2019 Touring Model Tire Size 225/60-18
I looked up the tire size of your Subaru Outback 2019 Touring and found it to be 225/60-18 so for a tire chain set that matches what you are looking for the best option is the Pewag Servo RS part # PWRSV79 which we had the chance to install on a 2019 Outback just like yours and found they fit well and work great. The install of these is easier than similar options, the metal the chains are made of is a more durable metal than some of the other options and the traction provided is really...

  • Low Profile Snow Tire Chains For 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E With 225/60R18 Tire Size
Happy to, and there are a couple options for low-profile snow tire chains that fit your 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E with 225/60R18 tires. One is from pewag and the other is from Titan Chain and both have 3.7 mm links so well under the 10 mm your Mustang requires. The parts are the following: - Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains # TC1555 - pewag Servo RS Tire Chains # PWRSV79 Both of these have diamond-pattern square links, which is great because the diamond pattern gives your tires the best overall...

  • Will My Tire Cables that Fit 235/50-19 Tires Fit Aftermarket Sizes on My 2015 Toyota Sienna SE?
It ultimately depends on the make/model of snow tire cables you currently have installed on your standard 235/50-19 tires on your 2015 Toyota Sienna SE. For example, the snow cables we carry that fit your 235/50-19 tires are the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW1042. These particular cables will not fit 235/55R19 or 255/55R19 or 245/50R19 tires. The only other option we carry is the pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # PWRSV79, and these chains will only fit 235/50-19 tires...

  • Recommended Tire Chains For 2012 Toyota Sienna SE With 235/50-19 Tires
For snow chains on tires sized 235/50-19 I recommend the Konig # TH01594247chains that are self tightening and "Class-S" low profile sized for tight wheel well clearances. The other choice is Pewag # PWRSV79, also self-tightening and Class-S. I would probably pick the Pewag as they have square links that offer more traction. Before purchasing or installing tire chains, consult your owner's manual or the vehicle manufacturer for any advice or prohibitions they might have regarding the...

  • What Snow Tire Chains Are Compatible With My 2012 Toyota Sienna
When you are getting a snow tire chain for your 2012 Toyota Sienna, you should use the fit guide for your vehicle. Unless your tire size is not listed as an available tire size in the snow tire chain fit guide, the fit guide takes precedence. For example, your tire size, 235/50 19, is compatible with the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - Easy Fit SUV - Size 247, part # TH04115247, but not when they are on a 2012 Toyota Sienna. You can go with the...

  • Tire Chains for 2017 and 2022 Subaru Outback With 225/65R17 Tires
Hi Roger; all of these are Class S compatible so while clearance varies slightly it will be comparable between the ones you're looking at. If you're looking for something that will work in an emergency, and you are getting these because they're required, the Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain # TC343DC is the best choice. These are actually cables which is why the cost is so low. Most people get cable because they have to have them but really don't intend on using them. If you plan to use them...

  • Tire Chains For A 2011 Toyota Sienna With 235/60R17 Winter Tires
We do offer chains that will fit your 2011 Toyota Sienna with the 235/60R17 winter tires, however the Konig # TH01594247 that you were looking at are not going to be sized quite right. Instead I recommend the Pewag Servo RS Tire Chains # PWRSV79. These are similar to the Konig chains in that they are the easy install drape-over chains, and will be much easier to install than your standard ladder-style chain. The diamond pattern chain is very low profile, and provides excellent traction....
