Konig's Easy Fit snow chains are are just that - an easy fit. Just slide them over the tire and step on a pedal to tension them. The chains finish self-tensioning after a full tire rotation. These are excellent if you're looking for chains that are completely effortless because there's no reaching around the tire to make connections, driving forward and rechecking the tension, or crawling around on the cold, wet ground to install them. Removing the Easy Fit is just as simple - pull the red pin in the middle and push the red buttons at the bottom of the center element to release tension, then unwrap the chain from around the tire.

They're also great all-purpose winter weather chains. so if you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these Konig chains are perfect because they're durable and incredibly easy to mount. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with square or V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese nickel alloy steel for ultimate durability. The center tensioning element on each Easy Fit chain is made of rustproof aluminum for lasting effectiveness.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly easy and it doesn't require crawling around on the cold, wet ground to make connections, or getting out to readjust them after driving a short distance.

Pull sides of the rigid arch apart to extend wire

1. Open the rigid arch section of the chain and pull the sides apart.

Tuck the rigid arch behind the tire, starting at the top, and tug chains down

2. Drape the chain over the top of the tire and tug down to fit it all the way around the bottom. (If you're testing these on bare pavement, the red cable may not fit under your tire like it would in snow.)

Flip pedal out, step on it until it clicks

3. Flip the pedal out and step on it, pushing it down the track of the center bar until it clicks in place at the bottom.

Replace pedal into travel position and attach tensioners to side chains

4. Pop the pedal back into the locked position.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

I practiced with these several times before needing them. While not as fast as in the video, I got pretty adept at installing them. My driveway is steep enough that I can't always make it up, even with dedicated snows.
When I actually needed them during a Backcountry ski trip, they broke, causing me to have to alter my plans.
I contacted etrailer twice. Once shortly after it happened, and once when I was first prompted for this review and did not hear back either time.
I think I am the outlier- I spent a huge amount on the chains because of their great reviews, and expect I just had some bad luck.
I have also, in general, had great experience with etrailer customer service, and expect they may be dealing with some of the same staffing issues as the rest of the world.
The vehicle in the picture isn't mine, but was on our two hour drive to the closest Canadian Tire after the chains failed.
Other pics show the problem, and my failed field repair.
The rust showed on the chains by the time I got home from a 1 week trip-. I couldn't hang them up to dry on our campervan trip.

This company is the best. Their service is outstanding. I not only received my snow tire chains very quickly but when I needed assistance with confirmation on how to install and remove them they were so helpful on the phone!

The tire chains are very easy to install; I highly recommend them.

Haven't put the product on the car yet (no snow)... but ordered these for the wife for ease of install in case. (Oregon is a carry traction state, so some passes will require them in the vehicle). The chains themselves are in good shape - the box was a bit beat up, but wasn't bad enough to affect the chains (that were in the carry case inside the box). Will update after some use - positive or negative. etrailer itself was great!

Very pleased with the service!
I placed my order on line. I did not know, but it did not go through. Krystal called me the next day(Saturday), to let me know. She also placed the order for me and had a co worker check on Sunday to make sure it went through.
I bought some Thule quick install tire chains. Very pleased with the product. It was just as they said.
Their Web site was easy to navigate.
Shipping was very quick, just as they said it would.

This is a great set of snow chains. It took me less than five minutes to install them the first time. The next time it took only about two to three minutes. Easy to install and remove. Great bag with instructions. Couldn't have made it any easier unless you had someone else doing it for you.

by:

The easy install was just as I was told.
Well
made product

by:

They worked as expected. Quick to install, quick to take off. They have a bigger footprint in storage bag due to the self tensioning mechanism, but its worth it to be able to take them on/off so easily.

by:

This is the best tire chain and etrailer was so quick, efficient, with good communication. Great job....thanks

by:

Fastest delivery I've received here on the mountain. Great service and good prices!

VERY easy to put on and take off. Best chains I've ever owned. Worth the price.

I have driven on these chains for a year. Here are my thoughts. They are probably good for someone who just needs to drive on a chain to get from their chalet to the ski lift while looking fly. However we own land in the mountains of Colorado about three miles up a private road that is unmaintained. We routinely face 6-8 inch drifts, steep inclines, and hairpin turns. When you can actually get this chain on, it works fine. However, after the first time, you will basically never get this chain on properly again. The first time I put them on, I was in love. Then I tried to take them off after getting a mix of heavy snow and dirt into the release canal. When you hit the quick release, it goes up about a quarter of the way, and you have to reach behind the wheel and pull to get the wire to release. From there, everything goes downhill. The wire stretches a little from having to pull it off the wheel. Then when you step on the quick tighten, it tightens, unless the snow underneath is too icy/firm, then it only tightens sort of. You can take it off and retry, but that loosens the wire a little bit more. Soon enough, the chain isn't actually tight against the wheel. But it stays on. Which is fine if you don't spin. But if you hit a spot where you spin, then the chain goes shooting off the back like a bola. You can put it back on, but it doesn't ever tighten down well enough again. Last time I went up to our property, I got in fine, losing one chain along the way, but when I tried to get out, got stuck three times because I couldn't keep the chains on my tires. Trying to get them on in deep snow, under tire spun icy snow, don't bother. TL;DR, great if you have to use them once or twice in cute, clean, snow. Anything of actual need, get different chains.

Construction: solid
Conditions of installation:
snowing, below freezing w/ packed snow and ice
Ease of installation: piece of cake!
Function: up steep driveway, no problems
Value: worth every penny

by:

Fits well. Easy to put on and take off. Silicon spray on the red cables seems wise. Maria was amazing in customer service. I love etrailer. One thing I would change. Use fewer staples when packing the box. I had lots of staples in my Konig box, which I would liked to have kept nice with a $[XX] product. See photos

by:

I must say I was skeptical about easy installation. I am pleased to say these chains were EASY AND FAST to put on. Not disappointed at all. It’s worth the extra money and this chain will work on my pickup truck and Jeep Grand Cherokee, so not that costly after all. Highly recommended

by:

I'm giving these 3 stars because they were difficult to install in deep spring mush, and broke when I tried to get myself unstuck. I give them 1 star for that use. Absolutely did not work. Though I didn't get a chance to try this, I think they'd be fairly convenient to install in a chain up area to get over high mountain passes. So I'll give them a generous and hypothetical 5 stars for that, and average my rating to 3 stars.

by:

So thankful I have these chains. They have bailed me out more than once. I opted to buy them instead of getting dedicated winter tires. As with most chains, once you put them on your tires, you really can't go more than 35 MPH, so you won't be using them for long times - just when you need to use them, and only when you need to use them. (I also purchased a pair of rugged winter gloves from Home Depot which I keep in the case with the chains, which I recommend because it's cold and snowy outside wherever you are going to put them on.) I highly recommend these as the ultimate backup.

FANTASTIC!
I'm an "old guy" with arthritis
so when I got my Ford F-150 stuck (for the first time in 20 years) I was concerned. I have two sets of heavy duty "ladder" chains, which I only used once and am no longer agile or flexible (or young enough) to wrestle with. So after sliding off an icy road and getting stuck for several hours; I researched various different chains that I could easily manage and could save me a day of trouble. etrailer.com was great, discussed my options with me, understood my concerns, made a range of recommendations and offered a great price.
These are certainly not the cheapest chains out there but I think they are the best, especially if you are somewhat physically challenged. Sure the price caused me to hesitate but when I consider what I just went through and my needs these were the best choice. As one reviewer said, "hope I never have to use them". I agree AND I now have something I can use to help me if I ever get stuck again. They are magnificent, engineered to work well and last. They have the best chain pattern and materials on the market, are lightweight and above all else incredibly easy to put on / take off.
I did as suggested and put them on for a trial run, they work as promised, amazingly well.
I am delighted with my decision and hope I never have to use them but living in the Rocky Mountains one has to be prepared and now I feel confident I can manage just about anything that happens.

These chains are truly magical! On our first trip up to the mountains, the snow started suddenly coming down on us before the CHP could even get out there to set up chain controls. Traffic slowed unexpectedly to a stop, and our tires began to spin. We were stuck in the middle of the road. Out we popped, put on our chains, and about 3 minutes later we were (easily) moving past all the other people putting on their chains. We were literally alone on the road while everyone else got their chains on. They were that fast! Because of the weather conditions, we actually had to take them off and then put them back on two additional times on that drive, which would have been really miserable with any other chains.

I do have a couple things to be aware of:
1) You need to line the tires up perfectly in order to get them off, so it helps to have a second person to tell you when to stop.
2) During one of our installations, as we started to drive off we heard an odd sound. I got out to check and one of the tensioners had come undone, because a clip had come off of it. I was able to find the clip and get it back on, and we didn't have any further trouble - however we later inspected all the clips and saw that that one (as well as one other) did not look quite right. Worried that we would run into trouble on another trip, I called etrailer.com first - they directed me to call the company. I did, and the company was so helpful! I had taken photos of the broken chain and they quickly approved my warranty claim based on those photos and sent me a new set, in time for our next trip! We are now always careful to put the chains on, drive a few feet (so that they tighten) and then make sure they are on securely.

I still give them 5 stars - they are fantastic chains.

by:

Easy to install. I taught my wife and daughter how to install the snow chains in less than 1 minute. They were able to install and remove the snow chains by themselves easily. Point to note: the removal process requires some hand strength to pinch the two red tabs down and not get hit by the tension shuttle springing up. Also, the snow chains tension had to be released when I opened the box. Other than these two relatively minor issues, I'm a satisfied customer.

by:

They broke the first time I used them. I hadn't had to use them until almost a year after purchasing them and when I did the cable snapped after about 20 miles. I was almost left stranded on a mountain at 1:30am with no cell phone service in the snow. Thankfully I was able to make it slowly and safely off the mountain without chains the rest of the way, but just barely.

I feel confident that I applied them correctly based on the instructions and website videos, so I believe they were defective.

I'm still trying to contact Konig to have them replaced, but the responses I'm getting are half in English and half something else even though I chose English. So I'm pretty frustrated with the customer service on Konig's end at this point.

by:

We've had really mild Winters, so the chains were thankfully not needed...yet. The peace of mind my husband and I felt, having them in the boot of the car, definitely helped. Both of us watched the helpful video on how to put the chains on our 2016 Toyota Venza. The video really boosted our confidence pre-road-trip. Thank you very much!

We have tire cables that do fit your tire size of 225/65-17 like the Glacier # PW1042 or the Titan # TC1042 but since these are really only ideal for a one time emergency use I'd recommend you go with a set like the part # TC1555 which are also priced great but they install easier, provide better traction, and will last much longer. Let's say you wanted the absolute best setup that installs in a matter of seconds you'd then want the Easy Fit kit part # TH04115245 which only take a few...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2015 Ram Promaster 1500 with 225/75R16 Tires
If you plan on having to install and remove tire chains off of the 225/75R16 tires on your 2015 Ram ProMaster 1500 frequently then I recommend investing in chains that are easily installed/removed. I also took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your ProMaster and low clearance and the potential to interfere with suspension components is something to watch out for. It also stated to only install chains on your front tires only. With this in mind I highly recommend the...

  • Tire Chain Recommendations for 2005 Lexus RX 330 P235/55R18
The best tire chain option for your 2005 Lexus RX330 that has P235/55R18 tires is the Konig Easy Fit Chains part # TH04115245 which install in a matter of seconds, will last a long time, and provide great traction. If you are looking for a set you'll use regularly and want something easy and great performing this is the set to use. If you were looking for something a little more budget orientated the Titan chains # TC1555 would be the way to go. These are still on the easier side of install,...

  • Tire Chains for a 2012 BMW X3 with 245/50-18 Tires
You will use tire chains on the rear tires only of your 2012 BMW X3 (consult the owner's manual to confirm). Even though the manual does not specify that you have to use Class S chains I still recommend using them because they require minimal clearance. The Class S chains we have for your 245/50-18 tires are the Thule Low-Pro chains # TH04115245 and the Pewag Snox, # PWSXV580. Between these 2 I recommend the Thule chains because nothing installs faster or easier. If you don't want to...

  • Recommended Tire Chains For a 2022 Ram ProMaster 1500 FWD With 225/75R16 Tires
For your 2022 Ram ProMaster 1500 with 225/75R16 tires, I recommend using the Konig Easy Fit Tire Chains # TH04115245. According to the owners manual for your vehicle they specifically call out to use a non-cam set of chains. The Konig chains are very simple to install and are self-tensioning so you will not have to constantly get out and check the chains during your trip and make adjustments. The chains have a diamond pattern to help with steering and drive. You will only need to add the...

  • Low Clearance Tire Chain Recommendation for Jeep Liberty with Tire Size 225/75-16
What your manual is stating is that you need to run tire chains that are low clearance. Meaning they are smaller so that they don't take up as much clearance in the wheel well. For that the easiest option that fits your tire size of 225/75R16 is the part # TH04115245 which installs in a matter of seconds. The option with the best clearance is the K-Summit part # TH02230K66. Or for a budget friendly option that works great the Titan set # TC2318.

  • Tire Chains Recommended for 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon with 2256R17 Tires
I was able to find an online edition of the owner's manual for the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. On page 8-12 it indicates that tire chains are not recommended due to limited clearance within the wheel wells. It further states that if traction devices are used they must be the S-Class type which are low-profile in design and more compatible with passenger vehicles that have limited wheel well clearance. Subaru says chains can be used on the front tires only. In reality, some municipalities...
