These chains are the perfect solution for cars with limited wheel-well clearance because they are designed to ride solely on your vehicle's tire tread. Chains automatically tighten and align as you drive so you don't have to recheck tension.

Features:

  • Provides excellent traction in snow and ice
    • Square links dig in and provide good grip - small size makes for a less bumpy ride
    • Diamond pattern offers constant traction and a smoother ride than ladder patterns
    • Traction plates bust ice apart
  • Made for passenger vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance
    • Meets SAE Class S standards
    • Creates zero interference behind the wheel
  • Automatically tightens around tire as you drive - no need to stop and tension
    • Securely attaches to wheel lug nut for installation
    • Maintains grip on tire thanks to strong materials and geometric design
  • Removes quickly with external release system
    • Sturdy arms can be folded for compact storage
  • Offers protection for wheel rims - chains sit on tire treads only, leaving wheels untouched
  • Includes nylon storage bag and 3 lug nut adapters (17 mm, 19 mm, and 21-22 mm)

Specs:

  • Application: 14" - 19" tires (for exact sizes, see below)
  • Lug nut/bolt size: 19 mm and 21 to 22 mm
  • Quantity: 2 tire chains
  • Internal clearance required: 0 mm
  • 5-Year warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow cables that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Zero Clearance Snow Chain Recommendation for Tire Size 245/35R20
The best option we have for the tire size 245/35R20 tires you have on your 2015 Chevy Malibu are going to be the Konig K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K44 as these chains are designed to fit your tire size and since they do not drape of the inner shoulder of the tire they basically don't require any clearance at all unlike other chains. The inner clearance requirement that nearly all other chains need is why your manual says you shouldn't use chains. Since this kit avoids that it would be...

  • Tire Chains for 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek with 225/55-17 Tires
Auto makers get the final word when it comes to using tire chains on their vehicles. The best place to start your review is your Crosstrek owner's manual. I reviewed an online version and in section 8-11 the manual states that tire chains cannot be used on the XV Crosstrek due to limited clearance between the tires and the vehicle body. It further states that special low-profile S-Class traction devices can be used on the front tires only when those tires are compatible with a specific...

The 225/55-17 tires are bigger than the manufacturer normally puts on the vehicle. If you have these tires, you will have even more limited clearances so I recommend only using the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - K-Summit - Size K44 # TH02230K44. These chains require no inner clearance as they only ride on tread portion of the tire. I've linked a video of this to assist. • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2015 BMW X3 with 245/45-19
What tire size do you have? If you have the 245/45-19 the best chance you have for a set of tire chains would be the Thule K-Summit part # TH02230K44. Unlike most chains these require zero inner tire clearance since they do not drape over the inner sidewall of the tire at all so they are great for vehicles that do not have much clearance. These also do not touch the rims like other chains do. While we can't recommend you use chains on a vehicle that the manufacturer states they can't be...

The Thule CG9 Tire Chains, part # TH2004205104, will fit the 255/45R18 tire size. We may have chains that will fit that tire size but if your owners manual states not to use chains on your 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, you cannot use chains. I have a great tire chains option for you. I went ahead and confirmed with the 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek's owner's manual that Subaru does not recommend using tire chains on your vehicle. However, the reason why manufacturers say this is usually to avoid liability if damage occurs to components inside of your vehicle's wheel wells. I checked the owners manual of the 2016/2017 Subaru Crosstrek and they state to run Class S compatible traction devices only on the front axle. For your tire size of 225/55-17 the best solution for that is the Konig K-Summit chains part # TH02230K44 because these actually do not drape over the inside of the tire sidewall at all so there would be no risk for clearance issues at all.
