Install this torsion bar between your truck bed and tailgate to make it easy for you to raise and lower the tailgate on your truck. The EasyLift ensures controlled movement so that you can access your truck bed with just one hand. This is truly an amazing product. Works great. Lowers the tailgate a little faster than I thought it would, but raising the tailgate is definitely a one or two finger process. Most of the weight of the tailgate is gone. Would recommend this product for anyone wanting an easier way to raise and lower those heavy truck tailgates
I have an older Ford 150 and the tailgate is really heavy. I was able to install this without any helper, although it would have been nice if I did have someone. So far I really like it. Installation took about 30 minutes. The template I used for the corner post, but eyeballed the tailgate hole. Worked out great.
Ingenious! A simple, inexpensive modification that makes life so much easier. My only question is why I didn't do it earlier. And etrailer is always unmatched in terms of knowledge, service, and price.
I read through the directions twice, and drilled my holes in the tailgate, and in the truck bed itself on my 2006 Tundra Double Cab. The template helped a lot, and having a friend help made it possible to fit the tailgate back onto the truck after the torsion bar was installed. Now the tailgate is so much easier to open and close.
I carefully followed the instructions. Had to get a strong neighbor to help lift and maneuver the tailgate. Using the supplied template, all my measurements were correct. We struggled to reattach the tailgate, but very happy with the outcome.
Installation was quick and easy. It makes lifting that heavy tailgate a breeze. Very glad I bought this.
Have a 7.3 OBS and those tailgates are extra heavy and drop real fast once opened. I wanted something to make it easy for my wife to open and close, and kids not to get brain damage from accidentally opening it. This product did exactly that! Easy installation (took about 15 min). My tailgate drops and picks up so much better now.
the only problem i have with it is I have to make sure I tuck the rubber clip on behind it when I shut the tailgate. To make sure it latches shut - if not it will pop open on some of the gravel roads I drive on.
It is definitely a two person install albeit I managed by myself but not without doubling the install time. It’s not difficult to install but rather that holding the tailgate while trying to to do the final steps takes some muscle. Having said that after a year it’s been flawless. I was convinced it would make some sort of noise eventually but nothing. I love it. I can lower/raise my tailgate with my pinky finger.
I followed the instuctions,The product ended up making a dimple in my tailgate.I immediately removed the product and thru it away.Do not purchase this product!!!!!
Had this truck for and hated the heavy tailgate for 25 years. 1995 GMC Sierra 2wd 1,500, short bed, standard width (not step side.) I wish I’d known about this torsion bar years ago. So very simple to install. Maybe an older product version had different template design, but this one I purchased Nov 2019 has absolutely correct hole placement. FOLLOW THE TEMPLATE & INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY!!!
I read the reviews stating incorrect hole location for their model. One was a Dodge saying A side hole was wrong. My template had a different location for Dodge marked same as that customers final install hole. Another stated B hole was off and recommended using the bar as the template, but I bet he drilled B location for the torsion bar installed at a straight up into the tailgate 90 degree. The design is for the bar to go into the tailgate and then slide toward the passenger side until the white mark on the B side is at the hole in the tailgate. If it’s only installed straight up, then it can work itself downward with road vibration falling out of the tailgate completely or partially causing damage when it’s next opened. I also suspect this is the cause for the review of torsion bar imprinting the outer skin of the tailgate, it was not fully inside the tailgate to that white paint mark on the torsion bar. Also I noticed the tailgate didn’t lay fully down as mentioned by other reviews, until I moved the bar fully in to the B side white mark. THERSE ISSUES ARE ONLY IF ONE OVERTHINKS THE INSTALL DIRECTIONS & TEMPLATE AND DECIDES THEY ARE INCORRECT. SAVE YOURSELF FROM PROBLEMS WITH FUNCTION AND EXTRA HOLES DRILLED. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR YOUR TRUCK MODEL NO MATTER IF YOU ARE SURE THEY ARE WRONG. I’m 47, disabled, multiple level spinal injury and advanced carpal tunnel in both wrist. I was able to install this with my cordless drill. On my 95 GMC, the torsion bar was a very snug fit behind the drivers side tailgate pivot hinge. It would not go into its final location without some persuasion. I followed install directions exactly. I liberally coated all torsion bar to truck metal contact points with very thick grease. It functions very smooth, quiet, and it’s like I’m opening the tailgate on a $75k 2019 Denali. I have absolutely nothing negative to say except mad at myself I didn’t do this years ago. I recommend this to everyone. The torsion bar helps you lift the tailgate to close and supports the weight on the way down. The hydraulic assist struts only slow the drop, they do not help with lifting the tailgate to close. The torsion bar does both.
Does the job, but almost too much tension in the bar. Tailgate won’t open flat so it’s a little inconvenient from that perspective . Probably wouldn’t buy knowing this, but leaving installed for my wife who it was purchased for.
Don’t order! Supposed to be gas shock installed on side of tailgate. This requires removing the tailgate and drilling
The lift has been a back saver. Why should just the new truck tailgates have torsion bars, huh?
I really am quite satisfied with the tail gate helper springs. I only have one suggestion and that is on some models of Dodge Ram you may have to change the install slightly. Don,t know if I am the only one who has had this problem but for the hole drilled in the left hand hinge area , I had to lower the hole about two inches. Not a big deal but drilling at the suggested location made the spring bind with the left hand hinge. Lowering this hole took care of the problem and let me tell you this spring makes the tailgate weigh about 1 pound. I will attach pics to help explain .
I installed this assist on a 2004 F150 and it only took about 10 minutes to drill the two holes. I had to wait some time for my neighbor to get home so I had someone to help install the tailgate with the assist. It took us about 10 minutes also but part of that time was spent explaining to my neighbor how the tailgate mount system works. When we had the tailgate back in place, the spring is so strong that the tailgate remains partially raised (about 20 degrees). I called Tech support at Hopkins and the person said that the 2004 F150 may already have a spring assist in the tailgate and that would explain why the gate does not open flat. I could not see any factory assist springs so I don't know if he was correct or not. I will put up with the not opening flat as the benefit out weights this minor issue. I can now close the gate with one finger!
Sorry, I couldn't get it to work. I measured twice and drilled once. It just would not fit in the holes that I drilled. But, no go.
wish I had this 24 years ago it is amazing the difference it makes tailgate now light as a feather
I was thrilled over the weekend when I finally got a neighbor to help me install my EasyLift tailgate system. It went on just as the included instructions suggested, and works great. I am so glad I finally got it installed.
Thank you for supplying this great product.
Got the easy lift tailgate. Wow. Didn't think this would work, but it does and its fantastic. It's simple to install, no moving parts and very reasonable for the price. Can now operate my tailgate with one hand without breaking my wrist. Great product.
Performs about as advertised. Standard multi application installation instructions.
Would not recommend if you remove your tailgate for any reason, or plan to.
This is one excellent add on. Easy to install . Fair price. Everyone says what a functional add on. Wife can now work the tailgate with ease.
I love my EasyLift. I was struggling, with my truck's heavy tailgate before and now it is just one handed to raise or lower the tailgate. Being into my 80's, strength in the arms does diminish and this is a great aid. Now I can have some sacks of groceries in one hand and close the tailgate with the other.
I have seen this product for a number of years and finally got around to buying one. Excellent product. I can't tell you it takes 80% of the weight of the tailgate, but what I can tell you it makes a HUGE difference in the amount of effort to raise and lower the tailgate. My wife can now easily operate the tailgate with 1 hand. I am glad I made the purchase and did not put it off as I did previously. You definately need a helper on this one. I'm 6'2" 250 and had no problem getting the tailgate off my F250 off. Trying to install this by youself would be very difficult. I highly recommend this product. One note: If I installed this correctly on a 2006 F250 you need to remove the tail light to remove the bolts holding the rubber tailgate stop to drill the hole in the back of the truck.
The torsion arm works great. It is strong enough it will hold the tailgate at half open. It was easy to install. Just make sure you don’t have it shipped USPS it will take forever
