These chains are great for giving you extra traction in deep snow. But if you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with square or V-bar links that can really bite into the ice for more traction.
If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new snow chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.
We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.
You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.
Installing tire chains is easy.
1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.
2. Drape the chain over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.
3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.
4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.
5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chains tension. Tighten any loose cams.
If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.
Quick Tips:
To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2018 GMC Acadia, we're going to be installing Glacier's twist link snow tire chains, part number PWH2229SC. These tire chains are going to help you improve traction in both snow and ice. The twist link design is going to give you more surface area, it's going to bite in, but also help keep things smoother, so it'll help noise and vibration when going down the road.It uses a ladder style pattern. So, this is going to be great for accelerating and stopping. What's nice about these chains compared to others where you have to drive them back and forth, and keep readjusting them, you can adjust these one times, install it slightly loose, which eases installation, twist your cams to lock it down, and then you're good to go.This is going to be a nice simple safety chain. It's going to be useful for areas where you require safety chains, and also for areas with moderate to heavy snow that you may need to use from time to time. We'll begin our installation by laying our tire chains out.
You want to inspect them to make sure that there's no damage or twisted links. You also want to make sure that you have your hooked ends with the open end facing up. You'll also want to make sure your cams are towards the outside. We verified our chains are ready to install, and we're going to be putting it on our front tires. We're doing this because our vehicle here is front wheel drive. If you had an all wheel drive vehicle, you could place it on the front, rear, or both.
If you had a rear wheel drive vehicle, you place it on the rear. Since ours is front, we're going here. We'll drape our chains up over the tire. You want to make sure that it's pretty even on there, and then you'll hook the back first. inaudible 00:01:46 the chain in the back forward, and we'll hook it on to one of the links here. You want to make it fairly snug, but not too tight, as you're going to use your front cams to tighten it down. We're going to bring our chain over here.
This will slide through, fold backwards, and lock into place with that link there. And now, to snug your chain down to your tire, you'll use the tool that comes with it. Slide it in, and twist it to adjust the cam tight. You'll do this with each one until you can no longer do it. So, our second one here is pretty snug.
Can't get it all the way, that means our chain is nice and tight. Now, repeat that same procedure on the other side.Once you've got them both installed, you want to get out and double check just to make sure everything's okay, and it stayed centered, and you're ready to hit the road. And that completes our installation of Glacier's twist link snow tire chains on our 2018 GMC Acadia.
