Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These pewag ladder-patterned chains are great winter weather chains for your vehicle. Not only do the grooved square links dig into deep snow and ice better than rounded or standard square links, but the reversible design of these chains also allows them to wear under standard use much longer than other chains. And if you're partial to American-made products, you'll be happy to know that these are made in Colorado.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chains over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.

Connect the chain behind the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.

Install rubber adjusters

If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for How to Install: pewag Tire Chains on your 2016 GMC Sierra 2500

Speaker 1: Today in our 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 crew cab, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Pewag all squares snow tire chains, and that's going to be part number PWE2226S. The tire size we're going to be working with today is 285/65-R20. These Pewag chains have a ladder patterned design to them with square links and that's going to provide you with great traction through snow and ice. Their nickel manganese construction is going to make them durable and last a long time. These chains have a maximum speed rating of 30 miles per hour, and they come in a quantity of two with this nice carrying bag for easy storage. Now, that I've gone over some of those features. I'll go ahead and show you how they install.

The first thing you want to do before installing your chains is to lay them out flat like we have it. You want to make sure there's no kinks, twists, or tangles in it. You also want to make sure that these hooks are facing up because once we have our chains installed, it's going to be this flat side that rests against our tire, so that's going to help prevent any damage from occurring. Now, we're going to grab our chains by the middle and drag them over the top insides of our tire. Once you do that, you can go ahead and tuck the first rung under the front and back of the tire. To get our chains under our tire, we're going to have to go ahead and back up a bit.

So, you want to make sure that this slack right here is moved to the front side of our tire and if you needed to drive forward to do this, you would simply just make sure the slack is at the back of the tire.As you can see, there's no slack, so we're ready to back up.We're going to hook up the back of our chains first. We're behind our tire right now. We have this extra five links right here that we're going to choose from for the tightness of our chain. We'll start at number three, and see if we can get our hook around it. We can get it up and around like that.

Now, when we hook the front, you want to keep in mind how many links you went up when you hooked the back because you want to do the same length or within one. You could do the second, third, or fourth rung. We'll go ahead and start with the third and if we have to, we can go up more. We're going to take this hook and slide it through that link. We pull it up and under. So, we can see that's pretty loose, so let's try our fourth link.

As you can see, that's a little tighter. Once we slide that around, we're just going to fold it up and hook it on this extra link right here. As you can see, we do have a little bit of slack in our chains, and that's primarily because we don't have any cam tensioners around the perimeter of our chain. It's important to note that you can use a rubber adjuster to make sure they stay snug against your tire. You just want to spread it out as far as you can. Make sure to get it as much area as you can. As you can see, as I tighten it, the tension in the actual slack is going to come out. Now you can see, there is no slack. Once you've completed this process, you'll want to repeat it on the other side. If you have four wheel drive and you'd like another set, just use the same part number. There you have it for the Pewag all squares snow tire chains on our 2016 GMC Sierra 2500.

Just received them and test fitted them on my Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/65R18 backtires. It was a tight fit, but they made it, plus the tires are brand new. Havent used them yet, but they seem well made.

Awesome chains, made in the U.S.A. no cheap import/sub-par chinese garbage. No need to say more.. Buy American

by:

great product and a great web site they have what you need for towing and more

Have had these for less than a year and they're already cracked and rough-looking. Hoping this is just aesthetic but I'm afraid they're going to fail soon!

Just got chains, came when said they would. Put them on they fit fine and got good traction. First set of chains I have ordered for a pickup. They a little lighter weight than I expected. But other chains i have used have been on farm equipment and were made from heaver material. I wouldn't purchase anything lighter weight or cheaper than these unless your using them solely for on road use. On a 2018 Silverado 1500 18" wheels pickup the chains fit well, but you definitely need the chain tightening bunge or the chains do hit the fenders on the rear. Not the chains fault, just GM should have left more space between the rear wheels and the fenders.

the chains came the other day but it has been so cold that I haven't tried them to make sure these do fit.going to be warmer this week so I will try them on.
