BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.
BOLT is particularly useful in commercial applications. Imagine being able to send a crew without having to sign out multiple keys for a work truck, trailer, hitch pins, and equipment locks. With BOLT, the vehicle key becomes a master key. It opens all those locks and you no longer have the hassle of getting to a work site only to find that you've brought the wrong keys.

Today we are going to review part number BL7023550. This is the BOLT to a box latch retrofit kit designed to fit the Ford side cut keys. Now the BOLT technology stands for breakthrough one key lock technology. This is designed to replace the factory latch on your truck bed tool box. It will lock using your vehicle's ignition keys, so you always have the right key with you. Basically what you do is you remove this tab, and you insert your ignition key into this BOLT cylinder. When you turn the key once, this lock will be permanently coded to your key.
You do need to remember that the BOLT locks will permanently code to only one vehicle. They cannot be re-coded or re-keyed. Also on our product page for this part number, it will show the pictures of the Ford side cut keys that this will work with. It is a heavy duty lock cylinder. It has security features like a plate tumbler side bar to11 prevent any picking or bumping of the locks. It does lock automatically when the key is removed.
The whole unit is a weather proof automotive quality stainless steel construction. The stainless steel lock shutter, right in the front here, will help keep out dirt and moisture from the assembly. Has a paddle style handle right here that lifts very easily. Now this kit will include everything shown here. The handle, the latch on the very back, the frame, the lock cylinder, and all the hardware for installation. Does give you a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install this.

That's why I ordered these latch replacements that are keyed to my ignition key. I also use the BOLT receiver hitch lock. Now, my ignition key unlocks everything on the truck. This is the second pickup of setup this way. Clean and simple.
The hitch is great, and the feedback and information from etrailer is even better!! The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was due to installation. The video did not accurately represent my vehicle. (2019 F350 SRW 4x4) If you have a 48 gallon fuel tank and the FX4 package, the hitch is an incredibly tight fight. Half of the bolts are impossible to torque, so I recommend using a good impact and thread locker.
I had my reservations about buying this for my Craftsman toolbox but it worked out to be the best thing ever. Everything is now keyed the same. Toolbox, ice chest, hitch, and hitch pin.
Install was easy, and it works perfectly! Very happy to not have to carry an extra key with me anymore.
