Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

The Konig XB-16 Pro tire chains are great all-purpose, winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these Konig chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks in the chains.

Connect the ends of the blue cable

2. Slide the chain behind the tire and connect the ends of the blue cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Connect the hook and link in front of the tire

3. Around front, connect the red hook to the red link.

Feed tensioning chain through clip

4. At the bottom of the tire, feed the tensioning chain through the large clip and tug it until it's tight.

Stretch the hook across the tire

5. Feed the tensioning chain through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire.

6. Drive forward around 325' (about the length of a football field) and stop. Check the chains and tighten them as needed.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing cables out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

These chains were way too light duty for me. They were too small to even get through the snow down to the ice. In addition, the connectors are very small and very difficult to hook together with gloves on. Once they fill with snow and ice and they freeze, good luck getting them off as well. Ended up buying a set of regular old chains for half the price

by:

Shipping was fast and accurate. When I called customer service at 6 p.m., an employee answered quickly and answered my questions efficiently.

The installation videos helped greatly, and these chains seem to be holding up well. After driving through snow and slush, I tried removing the chains. The tension clip was difficult to open because of the frozen slush. I proceeded to chip out the ice laying in the dark to remove the chains. Overall, great chains and I am glad they went on easily. I make sure to bring them inside after use in order to melt the ice.

2018 Chevrolet Silverado

Bought these two years ago for use with my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 for driving on the lake pulling an ice house. First time out after buying them, I got the ice house hung up on a snowbank. Threw a set of these on the rear tires and got out with ease. Super easy to instal on the go even while stuck. Only reason for a 4 star over a 5 star is the plastic clips for running the tension chain through seem weaker than I’d like.

by:

I haven’t used the tire chains yet, but they are in my truck ready to put on if needed. Might need a video of how to put them on as a refresher. Thanks- Paul

by:

I used the chains for the first time and they worked great. I have a 2 wheel drive truck and I was able to go through the snow like I had 4 wheel drive.

by:

The chains came the day before I had to make the drive across CA Hywy 88 in what looked like bad weather so I was glad to have them with me. Did not need them that day but 2 days later it had snowed. Road was plowed but still had ice in places. Again did not need them but being CA they will ask to see that you are in fact carrying chains in the vehicle. Tried them on when I got home and they fit both trucks just fine...easy on and easy off...and not made in China. Can't wait to really need them!
Thanks for great service again and a great product.

have not had to use them, but they fit both truck tire sizes and install quickly and easily

I highly recommend these chains! I have a 99 Dodge 2500 diesel that I use for plowing in Northern NH. The ease with which these chains install and the self tensioning system make them well worth the purchase.

Chevrolet Tahoe

Purchased your Konig Standard Snow Tire Chains based on the terrific video by Alan. He gave great advice on installing the chains. We reviewed it again yesterday before we tested our installation skills on our 2021 Tahoe. Encountered ZERO issues. Appreciate also the weather protected instructions. Great product!

High quality chains. Selection, service, ordering all first rate. This is a good company, already ordered tires because of this.

Jeep Cherokee

Every year we travel north into the mountains. For years we used the traditional snow chains on my Chevy Tahoe. For the past couple of years we have used my son's Cherokee with this type chains. The chains are go on fast and provide good traction. I now own a new Tahoe and purchased the same type of chains. Based on previous experiences I'm looking forward to to easy installation and good traction when driving in the snow.

2013 Chevrolet Silverado

The chains arrived in two or three days and most importantly they fit. I had ordered chains from another company that did not fit and I had to call them twice and send 4 e-mails just to get a return started.
etrailer was fast, responsive and accurate. The chains go on extremely easy and I won’t have a chance to use them for about two weeks when try to make the last uphill mile of my 5 mile road when I get back home to the New Mexico/Colorado border.

by:
2016 Toyota 4Runner

Haven’t had an opportunity to use the chains just yet, but experience with etrailer very positive. Prices were the most competitively I found for a proper business (i.e. - not eBay), and the items shipped within an hour of my order late night on the weekend. They were packed adequately and arrived in perfect shape, as expected. Great job etrailer!

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I cannot give a fair evaluation of the product's performance or durability, but I did to a trial fit and they fit as described. The videos provided by etrailer were an excellent guide. I hope to never have to use these things, but glad I have them just in case.

by:

Haven't installed them yet but the chains look good and we're delivered in a timely manner. Thanks

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 255/80-17 Tires on 2015 Ram 3500 Dually
Konig doesn't offer chains that would fit the 255/80-17 tire size, but we do have other choices. Ram does state in the owner's manual that it's acceptable to use chains on both the front and rear wheels of the 3500 dually models, but they go on to say that you should use the same type/style chains on the front and rear axle to prevent handling problems. I'd recommend the Pewag # PWE4228SC for the duals on the rear axle, and if you wish to use chains on the front axle, use # PWE2228S....

  • Max Speed for 2018 Ford F-150 with Konig Standard Snow Tire Chains Installed
Both Konig and the owner's manual for your 2018 Ford F-150 state not to exceed 30 mph when driving with the Konig Standard Snow Tire Chains # th01571267. This is standard for a speed rating but it's always best to check the instructions and the vehicle owner's manual and make sure you abide by whichever rating is lower just to be on the safe side of things. It's also a good idea to check your owner's manual for any specific instructions on using snow chains.

The XG16 is better for off-road purposes but it isn't Class S compatible and it doesn't have the self-tensioning built-in. Attached are some review videos for you to check out. Be...

Due to the size of the tires on your Super Class C, the tire chains available aren't what would be considered 'low profile'. For good all around traction, I'd recommend the Titan Chain twist links snow chains would work well for you. If you have single rear wheels, use # TC2239CAM or # TC3269CAM for dual rear wheels. For a low-profile option, you'd need cable chains, part # TC2039 for singles or # TC4039 for dual rear wheels.
