Today we are going to show you Optronics Chrome Plated LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light part number MCL81RB. The lens of this light is user replaceable. Inside are 6 LEDs that draw a total of .153 amps at 12.8 volts. It is designed to surface mount against your trailer using mounting holes that are 3-7/8 inches on center. It utilizes a 2 wire design meaning you will have one wire lead for power and the other wire lead will serve as your ground connection. The light also comes with a foam gasket to help seal the light against your trailer. Next we will hook the light up to a power supply so you can see how it looks. I own a 52 year old vintage gooseneck trailer and these lights are original equipment replacement with led update. Can't tell from original lights except they are shinier.
I like the way they look and they are bright and I’ll probably buy them again for the other fire truck I’m working on.
This next is more for the manufacturer than e-trailers. I don’t see the use for the off-set mounting screws. If the centered screws were longer, there wouldn’t be a need for the off-set screws, and it would look better. Also, since these are surfaced mounted, I’d like to see a larger pocket where the wires come out, to tuck in the wires in as I am mounting it. And finally there should be a small screw to terminate the negative wire inside the light that would ground to the truck body, to help with the flush mounting.
