Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Pin

Today were going to take a quick look at the Bulldog Collar Lock Coupler with pin part number bd028244. Now this is a weld on design so youre going to weld it directly to the tongue of your trailer coupler along the edge here and on the back. Its designed to be used with three inch trailer tongues. Well measure the inside width and again we get our three inches. Well also quickly measure our overall length and we get about 16 and a quarter inches. Now the coupler itself is made out of high strength steel so its very durable.

The collar lock system is a little bit different than typical trailer systems. The collar will slide back releasing this hinge and the socket opens up so you can get the ball in or out. To be able to release it the collar needs to slide back far enough so we need to remove our pin first. Theyve secured the pin to the coupler with a chain lanyard to make sure you dont lose it. With the pin out of the way we can slide our coupler down and this wedge here will release and swing open.

Theres the little hook here that will hold it open while you get the ball fitted into your coupler. Weve got a two inch trailer ball. Well fit it into place and then as we close the wedge the spring loaded collar will slide forward securing the wedge side around the ball. This provides a nice captive snug fit around the ball to insure that the trailer doesnt come undone. Once the balls engaged in place you can then re-insert your pin and secure it.

Thisll prevent the collar from coming back and releasing while youre trailering down the road. To release the ball well just reverse the process. Again the pins removed so we can slide our collar back. The wedge opens up and the ball is free. Thats it for a quick look at the Bulldog Collar Lock Coupler with pin part number bd028244..

  • Lock Recommendations for a Collar-Lok Style Trailer Coupler
It sounds like you have a Collar-Lok coupler such as # BD028244. For that type of coupler you could use lock # BLTL-23. The body is aluminum but the pin inside that goes way up into the coupler is steel. It fits 2-5/16 inch Collar-Lok couplers. For 2 inch models use # BLTL-22. Another option, if your coupler has the pin behind the collar to keep the collar from sliding back, is to use a lock such as # e98888 in place of the pin. This would prevent the collar from opening all the way. Or,...

  • How Does the Bulldog High-Profile Latch Repair Kit Attach to the Trailer Coupler
It sounds like you are used to using a Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler, like part # BD028288, and that your new coupler is the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Pin, # BD028244, which is designed to be used as you have indicated. You have to grasp the coupler and pull the collar back to release the jaw. The Bulldog High-Profile Latch Repair Kit, # BD024200, is desingned to be used on the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ High-Profile Latch, item # BD028382, which has an attachment point on the couplers...

  • Will the Bulldog High-Profile Coupler Latch Repair Kit Work on a Bulldog 2B Hammerblow Coupler
There are several different styles of Bulldog 2B coupler latches. If your coupler has the high profile latch like the one on our Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ High-Profile Latch, item # BD028462, the Bulldog High-Profile Latch Repair Kit, item # BD024200, will be the correct replacement. The other latch styles can be seen on the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Pin, item # BD028244, which utilizes a pin to secure the coupler to the trailer ball and the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Low-Profile...

  • Is Straight Tongue Coupler Stronger Depending on if it is Bolted or Welded?
There actually isn't any difference in strength for a straight tongue coupler, no matter if it is bolted on or welded on. Most couplers are designed to be one or the other, and their capacity won't change - and the security to your trailer - will be the same regardless of the installation method. For example, the weld-on Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler - 2" Ball - 3" Channel Tongue # BD028244 and bolt-on Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler, 2" Ball, 3" Channel # F343000301 both have a 5,000 lb capacity...

  • Lock Recommendation for Bulldog Collar-Lok Trailer Coupler
I'm assuming you have a Bulldog Collar-Lok trailer coupler like the # BD028244 you'd looked at. Blaylock makes a lock specifically designed for a Bulldog Collar-Lok trailer coupler, part # BLTL-20-40D. The lock includes the lock assembly itself as well as the locking pin and disc padlock. I'll link you to a demonstration video featuring the # BLTL-20-40D coupler lock.

  • Can Trailer Coupler for 3 Inch Wide Tongue Fit 2 Inch Wide Trailer Tongue
Usually you want to have a coupler that fits the exact channel size on your trailer tongue but you should still be able to get a coupler designed for a 3" channel, like the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler w/ Pin # BD028244, to fit your 2" trailer tongue by welding on some shims to take up the extra 1/2" on either side of your tongue. I recommend having a professional welder do this for you so they will know how to get the welds exactly right for this type of application.

  • Is Replacing Trailer Axle Only Way to Increase Wheelbase Width of Trailer Axle
Hey Brandon, there is really only one way to widen the wheelbase and that's with longer axle. There aren't any wheel spacers like what you are looking for that can be used with trailers unfortunately.
