Specs:
This rigid-mount coupler fits tightly within the channel bracket (sold separately) for a secure and rattle-free connection. Four mounting bolts with nuts are included for installation.
Hexagonal grooves are cast into the inside of the coupler's channel to hold the nuts in place for you as you tighten the bolts down when mounting the coupler in your trailer's channel bracket. This not only makes installation faster and easier, but it also allows for a tighter fit that eliminates movement and noise. It also reduces any jolting that occurs during acceleration and braking.
The ball-and-socket joint of the coupler keeps the hitch ball captive by providing a continuously tight fit. Within the socket, the ball retains full range of motion so that it can rotate in any direction to keep your trailer from binding up.
To hook up your trailer, simply lower the coupler over the hitch ball and close the hinged latch around the ball. Then slide the Collar-Lok over the latch. When the collar is in place, it not only protects the hinge joint, but it also gives you visual assurance that the latch is securely closed. As a final step, slide in the coupler pin. This pin is chained to the coupler so you won't lose it. Because the pin hole is angled instead of being straight up and down, inserting and securing the pin is easy.
Simply reverse the steps to unhook your trailer from your tow vehicle. Slide the pin out and push the Collar-Lok back. The spring-loaded hinge will pop open for a quick release. A built-in stop tab will keep the jaw from flinging out too far as the coupler opens. The stop tab is a unique addition that prevents the hinge from overextending.
The latch has a force-transfer feature to add stability as the ball is forced against it on bumpy roads. This keeps the hinge joint and latch from breaking or torquing to extend the life of the coupler.
The downward bias of the coupler improves the angle at the articulation point and allows for a better connection with the hitch ball. The result is better support for heavy loading and a nice, streamline look.

Today we're taking a look at a Bulldog collar lock coupler. This coupler has a weight capacity of 7,000 pounds. It's designed for a 2" hitch ball. It's a heavy duty coupler that lets you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. So it provides a connection point for a hitch ball. This is ideal for utility, livestock, cargo and construction trailers. It has a ball and socket joint that closes tight around the ball, so that allows for a multi-directional movement to keep your trailer from binding.
It has a spring loaded hinge with a stop tab, so that quickly releases without overextending. Now the collar lock design is very easy to use. We have this pin and clip here. That prevents it from being slid back and disengaging from a connection. We wanna remove that. That's held on there with a chain lanyard so we don't have to worry about misplacing that or losing it.Then what I'm gonna do is, I'm gonna slide this collar back.
And as I do that, this portion's gonna kick out. Which opens the socket to accept or release from a hitch ball. That kicks out just like that. Now our socket's opened and we can drop this over our 2" hitch ball. Then to move it to a secured position, all we have to do ...
I like to pull the collar back down, push in, then allow the collar to slide back over that area. That just provides a really nice, firm hold. Then we can replace the pin and clip so that way it doesn't accidentally slide back and disconnect from the connection point. The collar lock gives the nice visual indication that the coupler is securely closed. Again, it has the pin style fastener that holds the collar in place around the base of the hinge ball socket. It's a rigid channel mount design with the anti-rattle feature built in. If you look closely, you'll notice these indents right here.
They are designed to hold the hex nuts in place so you can easily tighten the bolts for a firm connection. This offers really nice contact with the hitch ball, also a nice clean, straight line look. It's an adjustable channel mount. So this let's you change the coupler's height depending on your application. It comes with four grade five mounting bolts, with lock nuts included. Your channel bracket is sold separately. We're looking at a heavy duty steel construction. It has a powder coat finish on it to resist rust and corrosion. It's SAE standard compliant. It's designed for a 3" wide channel bracket. We can tell that by taking the measurement outside edge to outside edge right here. Measures just shy of 3", so this would fit into a 3" wide channel. Then it would attach using the included hardware.Again, it fits a 2" hitch ball, weight capacity is 7,000 pounds. And the overall length from very back to very front's around 10".That's gonna do it for today's look at the Bulldog collar lock coupler.

The collar on this heavy-duty coupler slides over the hinge for unmistakable security. Tight, rigid mount design ensures a strong, rattle-free connection. Mounts in 3" channel bracket (sold separately) with included bolts - no need for a wrench.Really fast shipping, install only took 15 min, and much more solid than the original coupler on the trailer that used two long bolts (which wore and caused the holes to get oblong making the connection to the trailer sloppy), as compared to the four bolts provided with the new coupler.
Great hitch great customer service
Awesome service! Right parts! Good job etrailer.
Like that it is a heavy duty hitch, like the way it locks and attaches to the ball. Don't like that is doesn't have a handle/lever on the collar to push it on or pull it off.
Ordered multiple parts everything fit together perfectly.
Overall from ordering to shipping was a great experience.
Thanks etrailer
Product was easy to order and is of excellent quality. It arrived right away and was very hassle free.

Five star service from etrailer, and maybe a two or three-star product from Bulldog. Aside from the rust and the fact that the collar is so stiff that it can't be operated by hand, the fabrication on the steel attachment plate is poor. The holes for the tongue jack are punched out, twice in some cases, resulting in an enlarged hole, but there are no threads for the tongue jack so you'll have to fumble around and use nuts underneath. The vertical angles on the steel are wrong, so it will splay out at the bottom and won't fit tightly to the A-frame and you will need to shim it out. The interior of the casting is full of weld spatter that will chafe the tow ball. I bought the less-expensive Ram sleeve-lock coupler under a Curt label and the fabrication is much better, having none of the problems the BullDog did. etrailer kindly sent me an RMA to return the BullDog.

The Bulldog coupler is SO MUCH easier to hitch up and disengage than my previous coupler which required several back and forth movements of my tow vehicle to engage/disengage the hitch ball.

Used it on a gravity wagon we haul cow feed from the feed mill. Welded right up to the trailer tongue and makes the trailer pull better than the old pin hitch.

A great product. The original crappy hitch on our new trailer was always a real pain to unhitch. Typically would have to keep the trailer wheels chocked and let the tow vehicle (no brakes and in neutral) roll forward or back freely while raising the tongue - only then would the ball be released from the ball socket. Not good when on a slope. A few times we actually had to pull out the 5/8" ball mount pin and drive forward and let the ball mount slide out of the receiver. No issues at all with the Bulldog hitch. And it's nice to have the positive and easy-to-verify clam-shell hitch mechanism instead of the sliding yoke lock of the original hitch. $200 bucks to have the old hitch torched and ground off and the Bulldog welded on. Money and time well spent.

Solid coupler a good company. The coupler doesn’t have any mechanism to assist in sliding the collar back but I welded on to nubs to pull it back with. I wanted several Master disk padlocks keyed alike but Etrailer could not get those for me so I went with a different online trailer co. that offered a six pack of them at a good price.

I bought this old really cheap to rebuild. One of the parts that had to be replaced was the hitch, I towed it home with my fingers crossed. I googled trailer hitch, trailer and etrailer was one of the sites that was suggested. I had to find a hitch that fit the 3 1/2" pipe that was the tongue, voila there it was to my amazement. I ordered it right then, 4 days later it was delivered yesterday. Today I mounted it, it was an easy installation and I am really pleased with the hitch and install. My fears of losing a trailer are now history, tomorrow it gets tested with 1 1/2 yards of gravel for the slab for my new. shop

After purchasing a trailer that came with a Collar-Lok coupler standard, we decided to swap out more of our standard couplers over to the this style. So far this product has held up very well. The only downside is the finish/coating is a bit cheap and it started showing corrosion within a few weeks.

The couplers (3) are of excellent quality. Ordering was very simple by telephone. All questions were answered. Shipping was immediate and the product arrived in an unmolested box which surprised me due to the weight. I expected the box to be dented and the corners smashed. Tracking of shipments was important to me. Couplers will be installed on a rather unique vehicle. Each of the three cars of this miniture train will receive the new couplers.

Works great. Welded it on and was ready to go. Have ordered from etrailer before, and just like every time before my parts arrived very promptly and have never had any complaints with service. Will definitely be using etrailer again.
