Replace your existing grease cap with a Bearing Buddy for an easy way to monitor and maintain the grease level in your axle hub. Use a grease gun to add grease through the zerk fitting. As the hub fills, the spring-loaded piston moves outward, raising the blue auto-check ring. When the blue ring is 1/8" above the steel retaining ring, the hub is properly filled.
The O-ring inside the barrel of the Bearing Buddy maintains a seal from the outside. The pressurized grease inside the hub helps prevent water from entering and contaminating the grease. Bearing Buddy also includes an automatic pressure-relief feature to help prevent overfilling and damage to the inner seal. Once the hub is full, excess grease seeps around the edges of the piston and into the barrel while the blue auto-check ring remains raised.
Check the blue auto-check ring to see when it's time to add grease. If the ring has receded below or is flush with the steel retaining ring, more grease is needed. If the lip of the blue ring is 1/8" above the steel retaining ring, the hub is properly filled.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Bearing Buddy set of chrome plated bearing protectors and these two Bearing Buddies are gonna replace the grease caps in the hubs on one of your trailer's axles. And this is gonna be especially useful on boat trailers. This will fit a 2.047 inch hub bore. This will work with the outer bearing cup or race model that you see on the screen there, as well as various outer bearing models will install very easily just like your grease caps be put in place there. And then this is going to serve a very important purpose of helping to protect your bearings.
So this will allow your boat trailers wheels to be completely submerged and it will maintain a slight controlled pressure of about three psi. It's got a spring loaded piston inside there that's going to have that pressure so that when your warm bearings and hubs enter the cold water and that vacuum forms that will oftentimes pull water and dirt into your hubs, that spring is going to keep pressure there so that water is prevented from entering the hubs and bearings which will help to prevent corrosion and pitting of your bearings which can cause to bearing failure. So this is gonna be a very important component if you are gonna be backing your boat trailer into water. This will help to prevent those bearings from failing for you. This is also going to allow you to visually monitor the level of grease with the blue indicator ring there.
So the ring will sit flush with the top of the cylinder when you've got enough grease in there when it's full. If the ring is below the top, you just need to add some grease and to move that piston outward about an eighth of an inch. So this will provide easy accessible grease fittings here. You can see on both these. So very simple to add your grease, very quick and simple for you.
And it's also gonna prevent overfilling because the automatic pressure relief feature here is going to allow grease to seep around the piston edges and into the barrel when it's full. So that's gonna help prevent any rear seal damage as well. Both of these are made here in the USA. They're constructed of stainless steel internal parts and a triple chrome plated steel barrel that ensures nice, long lasting fit, especially compared to like plastic or aluminum products is going to hold up well for you for a long time to come. You can see they do include these rubber covers you can put in place for extra protection, especially with your grease fittings.
You don't have to worry about any dirt, corrosion getting on those with those covers in place. This product is as good as their rep have used them before on a

They were hell to install. But not the fault of the product, wonky trailer hubs (kit?) and axles.
The bearing buddy would start but not drive in, no matter what. Just a few thousandth to big (or hub too small). A friend way smarter than me brought a belt sander over and put a bevel on the buddy. Went right in afterwards.
Buddy bearings make keep grease in the hubs so much easier. No need to take them off to apply grease, just shoot some marine grease into the zerk fittings and put the soft cap back on and your good to go. Easy to install!
Your product arrived on time and undamaged. It installed exactly as described in the literature. I am very pleased with my new Bearing Buddy's. As a side note I noticed a small amount of chrome machining debris inside the hub of the housings. It was easily cleaned out with a rag before installation. These Bearing Buddy's are installed on a 32 year old utility trailer I am refurbishing. Although the trailer is small (4 x 8) it has a 5000# axle and has seen some pretty tough use. Ive attached a pic of the trailer undergoing refurbishment along with a couple of pics of the installed Bearing Buddy's. Excellent product and service!

What a diiference to have not just good brakes, but great brakes. Plus, the install was so easy, all the hardware was a perfect fit, instructions were right on the money (btw, I'm a retired engineer from a nuclear plant and I wrote procedures, so I'm picky) Anyway, towed the boat 1,000 miles and what a reassuring feeling to know that the equipment is in good working order and does the job when called upon.

Bearing Buddy is a good product. I had to use a block of wood and a small sledge hammer to put them on. They would not go on with a rubber mallet.
I measured 2.045" and the closest one from Bearing Buddy was 2.047"They are on and will not come off.... The trailer is a kit that I bought at depot in 1997... I would recommend

I have an imported folding trailer (HF 90154) & they do not stock protective hub covers for their trailer.
I contacted their customer support they provided me the hub dimensions (dust cap by diameter 52mm) , I then shared that info with etrailer tech support who directed me to the right bearing buddy product that I needed (2.047" or part# BB2047).
They shipped and delivered it in a timely manner. I installed it this morning and it seems to be working flawlessly as I would have expected from bearing buddy!
Customer Service, ease of ordering, quick shipping were all great. Unfortunately, the diameter of these are slightly undersize and popped out as soon as I tried driving. Thru some engineering changes I was able to make them work, would let bearing buddies know they need to up their inspection.
I like bearing buddies....when they fit....this pair did not even after using a new micrometer. Oh well. Problem is it cost me $15.00 to ship it back. So much for any savings ..so i ordered the next size up. Good luck to me...etrailer staff are very pleasant to talk to. Have no complaints
I like bearing buddies. Used them for years. Problem was I could not find them that fit my old trailer. Sooooo I got one slightly oversized and with a bench grinder I took off 1.75 mm and made it fit.voided the warranty yes but it works
quick shipping - too small for my hub but I have other trailers they will probably fit - glad they had this unusual size bearing buddy as I couldn't get the 1.98 size to go into the hub
They work as advertised. I like the plastic caps that go over them.
Between the axel grease fitting and the bearing buddies, you can keep a lot of grease on the bearings, and a lot of moisture out.
I recommend and will keep buying them.
