Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a real quick look at the CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring. This retainer ring is going to help you mount a wobble roller to your boat trailer's roller bunk. And the zinc plated steel construction is sturdy and long-lasting. And this is designed for holding a roller on a one and one eight inch and three quarter of an inch shaft size. And the diameter of this ring is three 16ths of an inch.

And this ring would need to be installed using a pair of pliers, or any tool that can help you bend the ring into place around that shaft. That's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

I bought everything I needed to rebuild my boat trailer from etrailer and have been very happy with the product and service. Was a successful rebuild, trailered my 18 Ft boat four thousand miles around Florida and back to Massachusetts on a fishing adventure with no issues.

Product worked out great for me. Took a 5000 mile trip to Florida and back and fished a couple of weeks. No issues with the trailer parts bought here.

by:

I had to replace 8 rollers on my boat trailer, the rollers came on time like etrailer said they would and the ones I purchased fits my easy loader trailer perfectly.I pulled one hog ring off,and yes it snapped in half so I got ahold of etrailer again and got the heavy-duty hog rings got them today on time and they worked perfectly,I ordered the hog ring pliers forget buying them they will not work with the heavy rings.I used a vise to bend the rings close to a snug fit the placed them in the holes and used a set of channel locks to finish the job works perfectly, hope this helps other people out. Thank you etrailer associates for your help, will keep you in mind for future orders!

These retainer rings (hog rings) are a perfect fit for my trailer that has 3/4" rods that the wobble rollers fit on. I searched all over and finally found them on etrailer...where I obviously should have started my search for anything dealing with a boat trailer!

The Wobble Roller Retainer Rings bull rings, to me have held up perfectly on the rollers for my sailboat trailer. Great product!

Working as stated after one year, all is good so far

by:

They are installed and the trailer rollers stayed in place. Service was good and the product was what I expected.
The only issue was getting the right pliers to install the keepers

Requires a lot of pressure to install on the Wobbly Roller. I am not sure what tool would have made the installation easier. The angled hog ring pliers were too small.

Everything worked out as expected

by:

Tried to use these clips but they were impossible to crimp. I was replacing rollers on boat trailer. Not even my channel locks could budge these. Went with axle caps instead. Much easier to use. The reviews for special crimping tool for these got poor reviews overall. You can't really get a good grip with the channel locks because of the overlapping edge of the rollers that get in the way.

by:

Great Prices and selections. Very good correspondence with a slight delay on the order. Very prompt in receiving the order once stock was in. The Wobble wheels and the locks went on well. The replacement locks were of a better quality than what I took off. It caused me to grind the washers a little to make it all fit. It was a quality install, if I say so myself. Keeping Etrailer.com as a go to parts store.

by:

I installed these on my boat trailer and they were absolutely perfect for my needs. The rollers are now functioning 100% and I no longer have any rubber roller marks on the boat. A perfect solution to imperfect rollers.

by:

Measured and ordered the parts to replace the rollers on my EZLoader trailer. Shipment showed up super fast and was able to get it done right the first time. There is a helpful video on you tube that shows how to install these rollers. My boat now glides on and off my trailer!
Thank you for the great service!

by:

The retaining ring works as advertised. Relatively easy to install, just requires a little persuasion here and there. Salt water environment not friendly to these rings.

by:

Thank you so very much for immediately standing by delivery of our order. Our previous package must have been stolen, as we never received it . When I reported this to your company, I was immediately assured it would be reordered an shipped to me. Package received!!!! Thank you very much. Now we can repair the trailer.

Just finished installation on ez loader trailer, nice fit, easy install.Used to replace 33 year old rollers that were shot.By doing so lifted boat up a couple of inches so it is no longer dangerously close to fenders. Can't comment yet on performance or longetivity but appear to be a decent product.I appreciate the speed with which they arrived, might be able to enjoy a couple more weeks on the water. The hog rings overall were larger than the existing but worked fine on 1" shaft. Thanks

by:

Of the 14 retaining clips I received one was the wrong size. It's too big for my application.

The wobble roller retainer rings should be a must have for anyone with rollers on there trailer. Over time I have replaced almost all my rings ., especially if you use your boat, like me in salt water.

  • How To Install New Wobble Rollers, Washers, And Retaining Rings
The way to install the new # YR343R-6P roller is pretty simple. You'd can use pliers or channel locks to remove the existing retainer ring and the old washer. Then remove the old roller. install the new roller part # YR343R-6P and washer part # CE10983, and install the new retainer ring part # CE10981 by slipping it over the shaft and crimping it with the pliers or channel locks. This roller is designed to work on a 3/4 inch diameter shaft.

  • Hardware Needed for Replacing Wobble Rollers on Boat Trailer
The shafts in your picture do look a bit rusty but most likely they will still work. But you have to inspect them all to make sure they only have surface rust. You'll also need the washer part # CE10982 and the retainer ring part # CE10981 to install the wobble roller part # YR530R-5P you mentioned.

  • Are Special Tools Needed to Attach Wobbler Rollers to a Shaft Using Retaining Rings
I have tried to use channel locks before and they do not work all that well. You need what are called hog ring pliers such as # PTW88003. These pliers also come with fasteners but for boat trailer rollers you would want to use a retainer ring such as # CE10981 as an example.

  • Wobble Roller, Hog Ring and Washer for an EZ Loader Boat Trailer
The Yates Ribbed Wobble Roller, # YR500YW-8PEZ, is exactly what you need for your 1999 EZ Loader boat trailer. The bushings are included with this roller. For a hog ring, we offer part # CE10981 and you can use part # SW1000 for a washer. At this time, we do not have wobble roller sets or kits that fit a 1 inch shaft.

  • Tool Recommendation for Installing Retainer Ring for Wobble Rollers
Sounds like you are looking for a way to secure the # CE10981 to the shaft for the installation of the part # YR343R-6P. A decent set of pliers like the part # PTW88003 would do the trick. Or a set of channel locks.

Otherwise you may need to get a new shaft and use the above products to secure the rollers. To install the retainer ring you can use ring pliers like part # PTW88003.

  • How to Determine the Correct Yates 500 Roller to Replace a Missing One on a Boat Trailer
There are different Yates 500 rollers available and they typically have different attachment hole diameters. Looking at the pictures you sent in, it looks like you have a cap that feeds through the front of the roller and attaches using a Wobble Roller Retainer Ring # CE10981 to hold that cap onto the shaft. You just need to remove the retainer pin to pull of the cap to the roller and measure the diameter of the hole. Then you just need to get a roller with the same size hole. For example...

Thank you for including a photo of your Venture trailer that is missing some parts that hold its wobble roller in place. • Parts Needed For Replacing Yates 530R Rollers On 7/8" Shafts
Yes, there is an inner washer then the Yates Ribbed Wobble Roller # YR530R-7P, outer washer and finally the Hog Ring Retainer # CE10981. We do have the Angled Hog Ring Pliers # PTW88003 to aid in the installation of the retainers. You may also consider upgrading to the TPR Roller # YR500YW-7P. This thermoplastic rubber outlasts the standard rubber rollers and will not mark up the boat hull.

  • Can a Wobble Roller Retainer be Replaced with a Cotter Pin
Essentially the Wobble Roller Retainer pin part # CE10981 is a cotter pin. I would recommend using this though as it was designed to fit under a wobble roller. A cotter pin might interfere depending on it's size.

There are different sized wobbler wheel retaining rings, however we only carry the one size of retaining ring. The CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring - Zinc-Plated Steel - Qty 1 # CE10981. This is designed for holding roller on 1-1/8" shaft size and 3/4" shaft size only. The diameter of this retainer ring is 3/16 inch. • Removing Retainer Ring When Replacing Wobble Roller On Boat Trailer
Taking the retainer ring like part # CE10981 out when removing a wobble roller can be tricky, particularly when they tend to break. My best recommendation is to use two needle nose pliers if you can get a good grip when removing the ring. You can grab both sides at one time and hopefully not have one end slip inside the roller shaft if it should break.

  • Can a Wobble Roller on a Boat Trailer Be Held In Place Using Only Retaining Rings
A wobble roller retainer ring such as # CE10981 can work to hold the roller in place provided you are using the right size ring for the shaft of the roller. For example # CE10981 will fit a 3/4 inch and 1-1/8 inch shaft. You would want the weight evenly distributed to avoid uneven wear and the potential loss of a roller. The boat itself may not be balanced which could be causing the issue. It is also possible that the trailer itself, not just the rollers, needs to be checked and repaired...
