The Yakima BaseLine FX keeps the crossbars tight to the roofline for a clean, factory-style finish. The flush design means there’s no bar sticking out past the towers, so the setup looks integrated and balanced. It’s an aerodynamic setup that blends in rather than standing out, giving your vehicle a sleek profile as you haul your gear.
Wind noise can wear on you during long highway drives. These aero-style aluminum crossbars have built-in push-down rubber strips in the top channels that help reduce wind noise and vibration while you’re driving. The strips also seal when you’re not mounting gear, keeping airflow smooth across the bars for a quieter ride.
This rack is ready for all kinds of adventures. The bars work with most bike, watersport, snow, and cargo carriers that mount in the top channels or clamp around the bars. Whether it’s kayaks in summer or skis in winter, or just extra luggage in a cargo box for a road trip, you can use your favorite gear without needing special adapters.
When you’re loading heavy gear—like canoes, tents, or boxes—you want solid support. The BaseLine FX is built from aluminum with a 165 lb weight capacity (always follow your vehicle’s roof load limit). It feels sturdy under load and maintains stability even on longer drives. The integrated crossbar and tower system spreads weight evenly so your gear stays secure.
For extra peace of mind when parked at campgrounds or trailheads, you can add Yakima Same Key System (SKS) lock cores (sold separately). They secure the rack and your channel-mounted accessories so everything stays put until you’re ready to roll again.

2-years into owning my system: I have had the rack on the vehicle for 2-years and never removed it. Every 3-4 months i check the performance of the base clips and they have never come lose. I think best practice is to always check the stability of the rack however i have never had a problem and the system has always stayed tight and firm. Its been a great system for the vehicle.
