Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer, and today we're talking about our Rhino-Rack HD crossbars. These are gonna be some of our more bulky, heavy-duty crossbars, design to carry ladders, lumber, or even kayaks. So let's check 'em out. Today we're really only gonna be talking about the crossbars themselves, and these are gonna be available in a lot of different kits for different needs. So right now, we have just the kit of two, and these are gonna be able to work with a lot of different towers. Like the neighbor we have, they have this track installed on their camper so they can put it on top of their camper.
Now there's gonna be other kits that'll allow 'em to put it on their truck, and you can even get this as a kit of one all the way up to a kit of four to fit other needs you have, whether you want more support throughout the top of your roof or you don't need as much support. But today, we're mainly gonna be talking about the crossbars and what they're capable of doing. And with these crossbars like I was talking about earlier, these are gonna be great if you have any ladders, lumber, or even kayaks. And that's gonna be due to a few reasons because this is gonna be really compatible with some accessories designed to hold those items on. One of those being our load stops that can help keep your load from shifting around.
And we're gonna have the option to mount a cargo roller because loading up those longer items can be pretty difficult too. And we even have this lock or cable and lock that's specifically designed to work with these types of crossbars. And that's not to say that this isn't gonna work in other types of applications as what we have it right now for is more for our work application. If you wanted to use it for more recreational uses, this is gonna be fantastic for that too 'cause like I said, you can strap a kayak to the top of this and you could even put an awning on here too. So if you got done being on the river or the creek, you could go over here by your camper and put out that awning to relax out in the shade.
But I do think this is gonna lend itself more to those work applications, 'cause one, like I was talking about, there are gonna be plenty of Rhino-Rack accessories that can help you with those loads. And the second reason is gonna be 'cause the shape of the bar. This bar is pretty large, both in width and height, and that height is really gonna affect a lot of clamp-on accessories from getting around here. The other fitment issue I see is gonna be this channel we have. And this sure is really only gonna work with a lot of Rhino-Rack accessories.
Any other brands really aren't gonna have anything designed to fit a channel that large. Like if you are planning to use this for more recreational uses and you wanna put maybe a rooftop tent up here or some bike racks that Rhino-Rack doesn't offer, then more than likely, they're probably not gonna fit on here. So what you can do in that instance is instead of getting the HD bars, you can get Rhino-Rack Vortex bars. And really, since they are made by Rhino-Rack, they should use the same towers and just drop in. Or if you wanted to go down the other route, you could get a platform to put on top of here. And a platform rack is gonna give you a whole lot more options because, not only is it gonna give you more mounting options, but more accessories are also gonna be more compatible with it. We can check out some of the specs. So first up, we don't have a weather strip at the very top of the time being 'cause we took it off to showcase what access accessories you can put on here. If you wanna mount any accessories to the top, you're actually gonna have to cut this down to size and really arrange it in a new way so you can fit your gear up here. Now, what this strip does is prevent any water from getting in your channel or any debris. It's also gonna help reduce wind noise when you're driving down the road. What I also like about it is it also gives us additional padding. So when we do have those ladders, that lumber sitting on top of here, it's not damaging anything. It's important to note, we do have an additional channel on the bottom and that's primarily gonna be used to put your tower or connect your tower to, but you can also use it to mount additional accessories, like this locking cable we have. So if you're only using accessories like these, then you shouldn't actually have to cut down your weather strip on top at all and you can leave it as is. As for the construction of the bar itself, it's going made of aluminum. So that's gonna give you a few things. It's gonna make this lightweight, really easy to move, especially with putting this on top of your roof. And it's also gonna make this weather-resistant. So when you have this for a long time out in the elements, it's gonna be less likely to rust over time. Now even though it is pretty lightweight and made out of that lightweight material, it is still gonna be very sturdy and strong. And that does come with a caveat though, because if you do plan on putting some really heavy items on here, it's really gonna depend on what kind of mounting system you have, whether that's a fixed mounting system, if it's on raised or flush rails, that's all gonna be factors on what the max weight capacity is. If you really wanna push that weight capacity with really heavy loads, I'd actually recommend any type of ladder rack. But if you're in a situation like we are in today where you have a camper shell on the back, that really isn't going to be an option. At the end of the day, these are gonna be really good crossbars for certain situations. And that's really gonna come down to what you're hauling and what accessories you want to mount on top of here. And if you do find that maybe this isn't the best option for you and that some of the accessories that you want to put up here won't fit, we have plenty of other options on our website. But if you do find that you are in those working conditions and you can mount those accessories on top of here, then I think this is a great option for you. That I recently purchased.
The rack fit well and was easy to install. Seems to be made well. The problem is the amount of road noise. I never even put the basket on. It was so loud, it roared. I repositioned it several times but the noise was way too much and I finally just removed it. I spent a lot of money for the rack and the basket and now they are in storage. I wish it would have worked out better because I thought it looked really good.
This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks.
Ordered a Rhino Rack for my 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Rack arrived in very good shape and all items were there. Installing at this time and see no problems ahead.
I was able to transfer my Rhino Rack bars and 2500 series platforms from my C-Max to my Mazda 5 with just changing the foot kit from one specific to the C-Max to the fixed point type for the Mazda 5. Some savings from buying a new setup entirely. I took the risk the bars' length might be an issue - turned out okay.
*** In changing the roof rack from one car to another, make sure to buy 4 total of the measuring strips for the roof racks (#RRM641). I didn't think to buy these until I put the rack on and heard whistling at high speed.

Good quality and locks are included. The plastic lock covers are flimsy but they will keep an honest person honest.

So the product was great, and installation was relatively easy. I have a concern with the pads I received in my box/ the placement of them. And I’m not sure who to contact?
I did not see on the DK sheet specific for my vehicle how to place the pads and which way the arrow should go. So I put them all on with the arrow facing out. The back pads look great but they front pads look odd, and not just the placement but also the pad itself. I’ll attach two pictures to show you the difference in them!
Crossbars carry up to 4 SUP boards on a little Subaru wagon. Strong, quiet, trouble free.
I got the roof rack mounted anyways. Better pics to come when it's all finished!
Great product everything fit perfectly. With the heavy duty bars almost all the hardware for anything you put on the rack is too short
I was in a roof rack jam. There was a national shortage of the rack I needed for my car and our summer vacation was a week away. I went to etrailer.com when I couldnt find the roof rack anywhere else on the web. Another website actually suggested that they might have what I needed.

Excellent customer service, all current manufacturers for this type of equipment is not available for purchase because Yakima, Thule, even Rhino Rack did mention from customer service representatives from these 3 companies states you are better off purchasing from a distributor such as E-trailer. This company definitely had the transfer equipment from a Yakima support base to a Rhino Rack crossbar system. I needed the additional load weight and Jaime from E-Trailer was extremely patient and helpful…seriously awesome customer service…also my package came 2 days earlier in this truck driver shortage too. Job well done.
This kit is easy to slap on and sturdy enough to balance my skis and snowboards. I recently used the Rhino Rack on a three hour drive to a ski resort and had no issues.
This rack worked out great... I installed in on a 2017 Ford F-150. We drove 6 hrs through wind and rain with a SUP and Tandem Kayak on top. It really took a beating in a storm the whole way. One bracket was a little loose and shifted because of the wind on the Kayak, but it held together. Super happy with Rhino rack!
Product was good. Clarification in the instructions would help. Needing the torque wrench and specific adapters is not ideal for installation. Plastic caps to be tightened I feel is not adequate either when its a main support to hold the racks onto the car. Everything else went together great and I have no problems with the kit installation minus those few issues.
This loader is amazing...I easily load a 4' x 14' Sunfish sailboat at 120lbs easily without damaging my 2005 Nissan Armada...super sturdy...exactly as advertised. Note:. I order the extra heavy bar and did not need it! Now I take my sailboat with me while I pull my travel trailer. You won't be disappointed. Etrailer ROCKS IN CUSTOMER SERVICE...THEY HUNTED DOWN ALL INFO NEEDED TO MAKE THE PURCHASE...give DENA W a big raise!!!!!!
The Rhino rack has been working well. It is a relief to get my ladder out of my car and to be able to use the back seat.
This is my second Rhino-Rack. They go on very easily and hold the bikes/kayaks and even an extension ladder very well....thanks for a great product
The fit was good. The DK specs though were supposed to show on the foot pad if the arrow points in or out. I looked up many other DK specs and all were out so I defaulted to that. Other than that installation went well and it was easier to install after I did the front rack.
etrailer helped me through the order process for a difficult application and I was able to get the best luggage rack for the vehicle. I highly recommend their products and will use them in the future.
Great product, worked very well for our vehicle. etrailer’s website makes shopping for a roof rack very easy, complete with photos. Plus it was delivered a day ahead of schedule!
Two items I received surprised me when I unpacked the box were the rails because they were not black like I saw in the picture, and the rubber insert that I am having a hard time sliding in the rail. Should this rubber insert have come already installed in the rail or is there a top on how to put in with ease?
the rack for our little Mazda 5 looks great, I thought it went together easily, we did have to watch a short video to make sure we put everything on in the correct order. But it looks good!
