A big part of replacing a skylight is confirming the opening size when the old unit doesn't provide clear measurements. This one is sized for a 24" x 12" cutout, with complete outer flange dimensions of 27" x 14-1/2", so you have the key measurements before removing the old unit from the roof. That lets you confirm the fit before removing the old unit so you're not stuck mid-project with the wrong size.
Get a waterproof install using the included sealant approved for use with polycarbonate plastic. Remove the old skylight, then clean and prep the roof surface so it's dry and debris-free. For added sealing, apply butyl tape (sold separately) along the skylight flange before setting it in place. Secure it with 1" zinc or stainless steel screws (not included), then seal over the flange edges and fasteners with the included sealant. If you need hardware or additional sealant, an install kit and extra sealant is available separately (SR76RR or SR86RR). Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at a neo-angle smoke RV replacement skylight by Specialty Recreation. It's gonna fit a 24-by-12-inch rough opening. And folks, this is gonna be a great replacement for a damaged or warm neo-angled skylight on your RV, camper, or enclosed trailer. Now as I said, it fits a 24-by-12-inch-long angled cutout on your RV camper or enclosed trailer. Now that's how you're gonna match these up, folks.
So you're replacing one, you got your old one out. You wanna measure the long side by the short side on this right angle. So in this case, I was getting 14.5 by 27 overall on the outside dimension. Once you get that dimension, you can match it up with like the page you're on now with the dimensions and everything. As far as the cutout, if you measured from here on where the bubble starts, you'd get approximately 12 inches.
And if you measured the length, depending on your bubble and how it was molded, you could get between 23 and 24 inches. So again, don't necessarily take that as the golden rule. More importantly, if you're replacing it, again, take the actual exterior dimension and match that up. In this case, again, 14.5 by 27 wide. Now that being said, this is nice polycarbonate.
It's smoke-colored plastic. It's gonna tame the bright light and reduce UV transmission. It's durable polycarbonate, I said plastic, but it's polycarbonate. And as you can see, it's got a lot of give. It's UV resistant and also impact resistant as well.
It's an easy installation. You have pre-drilled holes all the way on the outside and they're gonna give you one tube of the included SR140 sealant. Now one thing to note, only and only use this sealant on these because they're polycarbonate. If you try to use a self-leveling sealant that's out there, the chemical makeup in those sealants do not match well with polycarbonate. That can actually dissolve it, break it down over time, and then you'd have a catastrophic failure and leaks and stuff and you don't want that. So please just usually included SR140 that's made by Specialty Recreation to make sure you're getting the right install. Now again, screws are not included, so you would need to get them separately. Has a nice one-year warranty and it is made right here in the US. And once again, folks, you wanna measure that angle whenever you're matching this up. So again, the long side by the short side. Whether you turn it this way or the other way, you should get that same measurement I did on this particular one and all the other ones that I've done, they match up. So again, double check those measurements. Again, this one's for a 24-by-12-inch rough opening. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.
