Simple Installation With Included Sealant

Get a waterproof install using the included sealant approved for use with polycarbonate plastic. Remove the old skylight, then clean and prep the roof surface so it's dry and debris-free. For added sealing, apply butyl tape (sold separately) along the skylight flange before setting it in place. Secure it with 1" zinc or stainless steel screws (not included), then seal over the flange edges and fasteners with the included sealant. If you need hardware or additional sealant, an install kit and extra sealant is available separately (SR76RR or SR86RR). Note:
  • Many sealants on the market, especially self-leveling sealants, contain a chemical known to weaken the polycarbonate. Please use the included sealant for installation. It is safe to use on all roof types and will not damage your skylight investment.

Perfect fit and fast shipping for a replacement RV skylight. I like it because it is thicker and darker than the OEM skylight. Easy install and it does come with sealant. I will buy again for my next skylight replacement.

Item arrived, and was the right size. One major detractors was that all the drilled holes had melted plastic residue on the bottom, some greater than 1/8 inch thick. Had i not notice this right before I set the skylight on the adhesive, the skylight would have either leaked, or quite likely cracked when I went to screw it in. Had to trim and file each of those bumps smooth to get a good seal.

E trailer was the only place that included the sealant .E trailer was the only part supplier that stated why that sealer had to be used. Fast shipping super easy. I had to use a heat gun to remove old sealant. I saved and reused all the screws. I followed instructions on the sealant tube and didn’t over tighten them.

Very easy to install. It seems more sturdy or robust than the original. Get the install kit useless you clean all the old screws up. Makes your life easier. It also seems a little darker than the original, that is good because it gets so hot back in the bathroom. I hope being darker will help.

Skylight was tall enough to fit. The supplied caulk was very thick and required a lot of effort to squeeze out. Was also difficult to level.
Etrailer was the only supplier who said not to use self leveling?

Hey Neighbor! We specify to not use self leveling because the compound in the self leveling can cause cracking to the polycarbonate material the skylight is made of.

The sky light is terrific but the sealant was the biggest problem, you couldn’t put a drop on a screw and go to the next screw without leaving a trail of sealant going from screw to screw.
I have a curved roof and I had to screw the sky light down a little bit at a time to get the sky light snug to the curved roof. Be aware!

  • Why Not Use Self-Leveling Sealant With Replacement RV Skylight SR67RR
    Hey Michael, You do not want to use self-leveling sealant with the Specialty Recreation Universal Replacement RV Skylight - 14" Wide x 22" Long - Smoke # SR67RR because it is made from polycarbonate, which doesn't mesh well with that type of sealant and can cause crack. The skylight does come with its own sealant, which you'll want to use when installing it.

If you wanted a kit that included the inner and outer portion you would need the Specialty Recreation Kit part # SR79YR. This is the same size at 14 by 22 inch as the on you mentioned. You'll want to measure overall size and cutout size. If you find your cutout measures 14" wide x 22" long we offer the smoke colored # SR67RR which will work, and has an overall measurement of 17-1/2" wide x 25-1/2" long. Years ago, most RV skylights were usually installed with butyl tape under the flange and self leveling sealant over the screws. Specialty Recreation now recommends a butyl sealant that's compatible with their polycarbonate skylights, opposed to butyl tape.
