Are you living off the grid for extended periods of time or often dry camping at remote campgrounds without water hookups? Tired of seeking out and driving to RV parks to refill your freshwater tank or large water containers? Maintaining a safe and adequate water supply in the middle of nowhere can be a challenge. Enter the Clearsource Nomad, a portable, 2-stage water filter system designed for the rugged outdoor adventurer.
This battery-operated system (12V battery sold separately) is a boondocker's dream. The first stage filter is a 5.0-micron coconut shell carbon block filter that captures sediment, insecticides, pesticides, chloramines, volatile organic compounds, and other solvents to improve the taste and smell of your water. The second stage features a one-of-a-kind VirusGuard filter that uses a special coating to trap microscopic contaminants, such as E. Coli, the Giardia cyst, and viruses including Hepatitis A. Its sturdy frame and base were built to withstand the elements while also allowing you to setup on rough terrain by a stream or lake. The system is also equipped with a built-in 15-amp pump and uses a 10' to 15' hose (sold separately) to extract dirty, bacteria-filled water from surrounding lakes, rivers, or streams from up to 20' deep and 100' away, turning it into clean and safe water for drinking, showering, cooking, washing dishes, and more.
A micron is a unit of measurement equal to 0.0001 cm and is often used to define the size of water contaminants. Some of the most common contaminants are sediment, silt, bacteria, and the Giardia cyst. Micron levels, or pores in water filters, are typically between 0.5 to 5 microns, and in some cases as low as 0.2 microns. A common misconception of water filters is that the higher the micron rating, the better the filter. It's actually the opposite. While a 5.0-micron filter can sift out rust and sediment, a filter with a 0.5-micron rating can filter out insecticides, pesticides, chloramines, and volatile organic compounds. Lower micron filters can also trap heavy metals and the more harmful microscopic water contaminants, such as E. Coli, the Giardia cyst, Legionella, and viruses including Hepatitis A, giving you cleaner, safer, and better tasting water.
