Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Camco Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent

Today, we're going to be taking a look at part number CAM40597. This is the Camco Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent. This plumbing vent is going to attach to any RV with an inch and a half outward diameter pipe. This piece is going to be the piece that attaches to the piping. It's going to come with three screws to help it be held in place, and it's going to come with the trim piece. So nice design. Now, what this does is this is going to use wind-power to pull undesirable odors out and away from the RV.

It doesn't take much, just a simple, gentle breeze is enough to remove the odors and to make sure this is facing the right direction, so this will rotate 360 degrees, that way it's going to easily follow the direction of the wind. It's got a nice, aerodynamic shape. That's going to allow for free movement either while parked or in motion. Again, it will attach to any RV with an inch and a half outward diameter pipe. Very easy installation. Again, it's going to come with the installation hardware.

This piece is going to be your trim piece. You will want to use some caulk. They recommend using 100% silicone caulk to ensure a nice water-tight and odor-tight connection. The instructions are going to be listed on the packaging. Very detailed and thorough.

They're going to walk you through step-by-step. Now, this piece is actually made from durable polystyrene plastic, so it's going to resist corrosion and UV rays. Again, this is designed for inch and a half outside diameter pipes. The way this works is the wind would come in at this direction. It would come over the opening, and then it would pull out the odors from the sewage tank. So you got this connected to your piping, your piping runs to the sewage tank, sometimes if you don't properly allow that odor to escape, that's what you can sometimes start to smell during travel, because that odor has nowhere else to escape.

So this is actually going to pull the odor out, and it's going to help with that odor control. So nice little design. Again, it's going to use wind-power to pull the odors out, so overall, it seems to be a really nice product. That's going to do it for today's look at part number CAM40597.

  • How Does the Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent Install
The main piece that attaches to the pipe is what gets screwed onto the pipe using the 3 included self-tapping screws. So you would insert the Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent # CAM40597 into the existing pipe on the roof and then use the screws through it and the roof pipe to hold it in place. I have linked a video review of this vent for you.

  • Smaller Roof Trailer Vent that Can Open or Close
You would have to come up with a way to plug the CAM40597 when you didn't want it to be active. It's initial design is for venting plumbing so it doesn't have any type of on/off setting. It shouldn't pull in rain but if an insect wanted to climb in it there really wouldn't be anything to stop it. A better solution for you would be the part # VP-543SP that can easily open and close and is better designed for your application.

  • Could the Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent # CAM40597 be Used to Ventilate a Camper Van
Moving air is what the Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent # CAM40597 is designed to do. If you wanted to use it as an exhaust vent for a camper van it would work just fine for that. These would work great to pull air out of your camper as you are moving or sitting still. There isn't a way to turn them off though so they would be constantly allowing air to escape.

  • Could Sewer Vent part # CAM40597 Replace Vent Close to Roof Vent Cover
If the smell is making it's way to the interior of the motorhome most likely there is a leak in the vent before it reaches the roof. That being said the vent part # CAM40597 should have no problem fitting in place of the vent you submitted a picture of.

  • Does Return Vent Need to Install on Sewer Tank When Installing Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent
You do not need to add any additional valves or holes in your sewer tanks when installing this Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent # CAM40597. The fin that runs through the horizontal opening allows air to be pulled out while allowing air to return back to the tank enough that it's still effective. The amount of air needed to move out of the tank for this to be effective is not a high enough volume that you'd need a return vent as well.

  • Can the Head of the Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent Part # CAM40597 Be Removed
I do have options for you but I called my contact at Camco and they told me that the top part on the Cyclone RV Plumbing Vent part # CAM40597 that rotates is not designed to be removed. I went out to our warehouse and tested this myself to confirm that the rotating head cannot be removed and put back on. If you are looking for a lower profile vent I recommend the Camco RV Replacement Plumbing Vent part # CAM40033 which comes with both the putty and screws needed for installation. We also...
