SmartPlug vs. Twist Lock
RV and boat owners have long relied on Twist Lock style connections for powering their rides. For years, it has been the best option for connecting to shore power. It's been reliable, but most know it's not without disadvantages:
SmartPlug's connector addresses each of these concerns and does all of the heavy lifting.
Locking arms grab the inlet, a clamp inside the plug body holds the cord, the inlet cap snaps to the top while in use, and the integrated seals weatherproof the connection. This helps prevent the wiggly, dirty connections that increase electrical resistance, which creates potentially dangerous heat.
Since it uses a square plug face, SmartPlug is able to use flat pins which create far more surface contact, further reducing the risk of high heat and electrical arcing. The square shape and flat pins also make it easy to plug in - no more twisting or guessing if the pins are lined up correctly.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the SmartPlug 30 amp RV Power Inlet. Now, this inlet here will let you plug in your SmartPlug cord to power your RV or your boat. You can see it is a 3-prong male inlet, and it'll accept the SmartPlug 30 amp female connectors which we do sell separately on our website, and I did wanna pop up an insert just to show you, there's one of those connectors on that cord there, and that's what'll plug right into here. Now, this inlet has a multi-point lock system for secure connection of that female connector, so when you plug that in, you'll notice there's cutouts here at the bottom on each side, so when it plugs in, it'll lock it into place to keep it connected. It is a straight-in, single-step operation, means no more twisting or fiddling with locking rings, and this design or the plug shape will take any guesswork out of how you connect it, so it's very simple to use even in the dark.
The flat electrical pins, they'll give you 20% more contact area compared to the curved pins and twist locks, and this will reduce the heat that's caused by electrical resistance. The cover on this, you can see the cover, this inlet cover will snap down onto the plug body, you can see right here, once you plug your plug in, this will go down over it and help hold that plug into place, helps reduce any strain on the cable, and it helps stop the plug from being yanked out accidentally. And if you noticed on the top of that cover, there's a rubber seal here that'll go down over this and help keep it safe from any elements when it's not being used. Now, they do use high quality materials which will hold up at extreme climates or out on the water. They use marine-grade stainless steel components that'll hold up season after season, they use nickel-plated brass electrical pins and tinned wires to resist corrosion, and all the plastics on this are UV and heat resistance.
It is a very easy installation, only requires four screws and three wires connection, and it is size to fit standard inlets, so you can use the same screws and holes. If you noticed, it does include this nice rubber gasket, and this will help seal the inlet when it's installed. So basically, what you'll do is put this up here, and then when you go to install that, that'll help seal it. This is a nice gray color, it is made in the USA. Few specs on this, amperage on this is 30 amps, voltage, 125 volts.
But that should do it for the review on this SmartPlug 30 amp RV Power Inlet..
