Yakima Landing Pad 13

These pads let you replace your vehicle's factory roof rack with one that is stronger and has a wider crossbar spread. This way, you can carry cargo boxes, kayaks, and other larger, heavier gear.

Simply remove your factory crossbars and mount these pads in their place. The pads create attachment points for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers (sold separately). These towers pair with Yakima crossbars (sold separately) to create a complete aftermarket roof rack system.

Great quality! They come with two different style bases. One flat, and one that is stepped to account for the raised area near the gutter trim. Good variety of screws to meet your application. My 2015 Mazda 3 (with fixed points) needed the medium length screws. Seems very solid!
I left the plastic gutter moldings on and just drilled holes for the screws to go through.

My experience with etrailer has been excellent. There was going to be a potential delay in one of the products, but their customer service promptly informed me, half the price of some of their competitors so can't really complain. In the end they got the part ahead of schedule and was able to ship in a timely manner. I will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.

by:

The item does not have much heft and therefore does not give me confidence that it will not fail. Additionally the pcs that go on the rear did not fit quite right. They were about 2mm off to one side of the installation space.

by:

So simple to install.

Honestly, I love etrailer. I love the expert help that you all provide. It's clear by the 1 year follow-ups that you care more about the relationships with your customers then just making a sale. Your service is friendly, informative and fast. I always come here first to look for my next purchase. Thanks again-Rob.

First trip with the new rail system and it looks like it worked out just fine. Thanks to both of you and Kimberly for all of your help and follow up I do appreciate it.

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee used landing pads 18 to mount to the roof my newer 2023 JGC uses landing pad 19. I was able to change the pads thanks to etrailer and install my older roof rack on my newer Jeep. I love that the majority of my roof rack is upgrade-able.

Bought these landing pads (and towers) for both our Outback and Rav4. We shuttle our Yakima rack between the two, depending on the need. We mount both a Thule pod and a Roofnest Meadowlark on the rack with no problem. Once these pads and towers are permanently installed, it takes about one minute to install or remove the rack. Great system, highly recommended.

by:

with so many variables having someone that could sort through all them was very helpful Thanks etrailer

by:

These landing pads allow for the quickest and easiest install and removal of cross bars. This will be the only ones I use going forward.

I recently purchased a rack system for my 1979 Ford Bronco to haul our new Kayaks. And believe me it was not easy to "fit" a vehicle as old as this.

I had some interesting challenges - my truck has a 3" lift and only clears my garage entrance by about 1.5 inches, so whatever I got had to be easily removable (at least in the front). I also wanted it to be multi functional so that I could carry other stuff as well, and the Yakima/Thule systems are great for that. Lastly, I wanted whatever I put on the truck to look good as I have put a lot of time and $ into fixing up this old truck and I didn't want it to look cheezey.....

Thanks to the good folks at etrailer I ended up with somewhat of a hybrid approach (my choice) but it worked out exactly as I envisioned it. I purchased the Thule Xsporter Pro system for the rear which works well with only minor modifications to the truck. I can lower it easily so I can get the truck into the garage without removing the system altogether. I really like that the tailgate is still functional with the system installed as some others I had in mind were bumper or hitch attached and would not allow use of the tailgate.... And, lastly it looks nice enough to just leave it on all the time.

On the front I chose the Yakima JetStream cross bar held up by a pair of Yakima SkyLine Towers and Landing Pads which I chose because I can easily remove the crossbar/towers to get the truck into my garage. The Landing Pads have covers for when not in use and are small enough to not be too noticeable.

I also added the security locks for peace of mind.

I have added 3 pictures, the first shows the Landing Pads without the towers & crossbar. You can also see the Xsporter Pro on the rear in its lowered position. The 2nd shot is a closeup of the Skyline Tower. The 3rd picture shows the entire system installed ready for my kayaks (or whatever).

Thanks again to the folks at etrailer for their expert advice and customer service.

A good product. Very easy to install. I installed them in about 15 mins. They fit secure to the Highlander rail system. No gaps. The caps stay on going thru the car wash. They raise the bars up high enough so the sun roof can be opened all the way with rack accessories. I have an existing skyline system with 66" round bars from my previous truck that I purchased in 2005. The existing system matched the landing pads perfect. I am not sure if I will shorten the bars or not yet.

by:

eTrailer comes through again! These number # 26 Yakima landing pads are riding in t-slot rails of my RetraxPro XR tonneau bed cover. They are the landing pads for my Yakima SkyLine towers and Yakima Corebar cross-bars. I’ve attached pics. Glad I had a Park Tool ATD-1 Torque wrench with a 5mm hex bit to secure these pads at the recommended 4nm. I selected the # 26 landing pads instead of the # 1 pads so I have the option to upgrade to the Yakima HD bars later for a higher load capacity.

by:

I have these installed on a 2022 Honda Pilot. I could not get them to fit on my raised roof rails with the included rubber gaskets. I have mounted them without the gasket but this leaves a gap between the rail and the landing pad. This seems secure but does not have a finished look. I will be trying to see how to get the gaskets to fit.

by:

Everything was easy to set up and works perfect! I love being able to take off the roof racks when not in use, it’s extremely easy and convenient.

by:

Fits nicely into the slot as designed for the 2023 Yukon.
It’s Easier to remove these Yakima skyline towers. Locks are a must for peace of mind in case one of these hinging clamps opened on the highway (very unlikely but a lock would prevent that completely.)
I do wish it was a little smaller profile, but it’s pretty good for a Yakima product.

Fit exactly as promised. Service was fa st.
Thanks!

Rapid turn around from order to shipping. Product was a advertised. Test will take place transporting my kayak on a 10 hour jaunt in a few days.

by:

Subaru stock roof rack was too low to accommodate a Roofnest. These landing pads towers work great and hold the Roofnest very tight when driving down the highway.

by:

Got another Subaru Outback and needed more roof rack capacity than the stock rack. The Yakima system fit the bill perfectly. The only hick-up has been the landing pad covers. Their click in holders need to be a little bit more robust. I have had a couple of them blow out. I will give etrailer.com 6 stars for their customer service.

My 2011 Outback came with a roof rack not really hardy enough for my Mad River canoe. So, I purchased a Yakama system from etrailer.com All contacts with them were informative and helpful though shipping was a little slow The towers and bars mounted easily. . .instructions were clear and You Tube has some nice video of the installation. I had a wind deflector and canoe brackets from another car and they adapted with just a little fooling around. The anchor strap kit #04046 mounted easily under the hood to give me attachment points on the front. I screwed in the towing hook to the rear bumper and got the bow/stern tie-downs #04031 to secure the canoe. Seems solid.

  • What Yakima System Can I Use to Replace My OEM Subaru Factory Raised Rails?
Hi Joe, The Yakima Landing Pad 13 part # Y00239 are a confirmed fit to mount in place of your factory crossbars for your 2012 Subaru Outback. However, they specifically work with SkyLine or Control towers, so they won't work with the Yakima TimberLine towers. Instead, we have the Yakima SkyLine Roof Rack for Fixed Mounting Points part # Y37TB. This roof rack has the same 50" long JetStream crossbars as the Yakima TimberLine roof rack part # Y39YD you were looking at but have the SkyLine...

  • Comparing The Yakima ShowDown And Thule Hullavator Kayak Carriers For A 2012 Subaru Outback
Hi Leon, Factory roof racks typically have a low weight capacity and won't have enough overhang for a kayak carrier with lift assist to be compatible so I definitely recommend checking the capacity and overhang to see if you can use it. The Thule Hullavator # TH898 requires either a Thule SquareBar crossbar or a crossbar with an accessory slot in the top to mount so it would likely not be compatible with your factory crossbars. The Yakima ShowDown # Y04081 comes with clamp on brackets...

  • How to Carry a Kayak and a Canoe on a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
I do have an option for you but we don't really have any feasible solutions for you to carry both a kayak and canoe on the roof of your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon at the same time. Instead, I recommend placing both the kayak and canoe on a pull behind trailer like the Malone EcoLight Trailer part # MAL. In order to pull a trailer with your vehicle you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. For this I recommend using the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch part # 75673,...

  • How to Obtain Larger Crossbar Spread On a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
The Yakima JetStream Crossbar System part # Y00425, part # Y53TR, part # Y00239 would be a great option for a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon. It will provide you with a 30" crossbar spread which will be the most that's available. Unfortunately, you won't be able to move any attachment points for the systems outside of what is recommended as these points are chosen based on the strong points of the roof. The systems that attach to the raised side rails all have a 20-21" spread.

  • Will the Thule Pulse Cargo Carrier fit on My 2012 Subaru Outback?
Yes, as long as you have a set of round, square, aero, elliptical, or factory crossbars, the Thule Pulse Large Rooftop Cargo Box # TH615 will fit your Outback. If you do not have a set of crossbars, you can add a set with the Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00428, and the SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR, as well as the Landing Pad 13 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers # Y00239.

  • Will Yakima SkyLine Towers and JetStream Bars Fit 2010 Subaru Outback
The Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425 and SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR will fit the factory rails when used with Landing Pad 13 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers # Y00239. They will install in place of the factory crossbars. The capacity of the crossbars is 165 lbs. It looks like the roof of the 2010 Outback can only handle 150 lbs so that will be your limit.

  • 2010 Outback Roof Rack Options
Adding feet to your 2010 Subaru Outback Wagon will not change the weight limit of the rack. The maximum weight limit will still be 165lbs. Adding the Rhino-Rack RT-Style Roof Rack Tracks - Rivet Mount - 51" Long - Qty 2, part # RRRTS551, does not change that. In fact, adding an extra feet/legs and crossbars to your roof rack will actually lower the weight you can carry on your roof. That is because your roof rack's weight actually counts toward the 165lb weight total. I would use my existing...

The premium package on your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon should have factory cross bars integrated into the raised side rails. If there is a bar between the raised side rails then you have this feature. In order to open the crossbars, you will need an allen key which releases one of the contact points on the crossbar.
