Question:
My typical carry on a car is a 16foot canoe or long surfboards upto 10. Ive seen people remove their stock racks and install Rhino Rack RTS 514 in the exposed roof channel gutter. The RTS is no longer in stock. Because I carry long items, would going with a system that has four or six fixed feet to my roof be a good alternative? For the long stuff I can use the outer points and if I want to use a roof basket, I can use the middle mounting points. Obviously I would install some channel material in between each leg section. Thanks for the input.

Adding feet to your 2010 Subaru Outback Wagon will not change the weight limit of the rack. The maximum weight limit will still be 165lbs. Adding the Rhino-Rack RT-Style Roof Rack Tracks - Rivet Mount - 51" Long - Qty 2, part # RRRTS551, does not change that. In fact, adding an extra feet/legs and crossbars to your roof rack will actually lower the weight you can carry on your roof. That is because your roof rack's weight actually counts toward the 165lb weight total. I would use my existing rails for an aftermarket rack. The canoe and surfboards can be secured with bow and stern tie downs.
My rack recommendation is the 2010 Subaru Outback Wagon Roof Rack by Yakima. It will consist of the following;
Yakima CoreBar Crossbars - Steel - Black - 50" Long - Qty 2, part # Y00421,
SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Fixed Mounting Points, Flush Rails, and Track Systems - Qty 4, part # Y53TR,
Landing Pad 13 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers - Qty 4, part # Y00239.
As I said before, this rack has a weight limit of 165 lbs. It has elliptical shaped crossbars that help eliminate wind noise and aid fuel efficiency. It works with any roof rack accessories that clamp the crossbars. With the addition of the Yakima Same Key System (SKS), you can secure your rack to the vehicle with one key for all the lock cores in your rack.
My recommended canoe carrier would be the Yakima KeelOver Rooftop Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs - Universal Mount, part # Y04069. It can carry one canoe. It comes with two cam straps and bow and stern tie downs.
I have included product description links, video review links, and a link to Yakima SKS Lock Cores below.
