Question:
I have a Mad River Canoe and need to know how to attach it to the roof of my 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon. The dealer does not know, and foam blocks wont work with only 1 inch on each side of the canoe.

I called Yakima this morning just to be sure and our contact confirmed that carrying your canoe will require the removal of your factory rack and adding a Yakima Roof Rack on your 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon. Parts needed would be the LandingPad 13 for Yakima Control Towers, # Y00239, Round 48 Inch CrossBars, # Y00408, and the Yakima Control Towers, # Y00124.
Once the roof system is installed you will be able to use any of the Yakima Canoe Carriers. I have provided a link to these carriers for you to check out.
You will also need the Yakima Bow/Stern Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps, # Y04031, to secure the front and rear of the canoe.
