Video Transcript for Yakima Roof Rack Review - 2017 Kia Soul Y00148

Today on our 2017 Kia Soul, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Skyline Roof Rack System consisting of part numbers Y00408. These are the round 48" CrossBars. Part number Y00148, these are the SkyLine Towers. Part number Y03536, and this is the RoundBar SL Adapter for the Yakima Skyline Towers. Part number Y00233, and these are the Landing Pads for the Yakima Control Towers. The Yakima Skyline Roof Rack is great for carrying accessories on your roof and potentially freeing up space in your vehicle.

It can carry bike racks, cargo baskets, and closed cargo boxes, watersport carriers such as kayaks and canoes, ski and snowboard carriers. Always double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure that your roof can withstand the weight of the things you're putting on there. Combined, the two crossbars here have a carrying capacity of 220 pounds. All four towers have these plastic knock outs in the center here which you can replace with locks that are sold separately. It also has a nice feature that when you're done using the bars, you can simply just lift them off and each of the landing pads has these plastic caps that you can put in place so you don't have to remove them. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have our rear roof rack assembly here.

We have our landing pads, our skyline towers, and then our adapter kit for the roundbars. Let's go ahead and start by assembling our adapter kit for our roundbars and get those set up. I'll take our tower here, we'll place our adapter piece in the center, and then press it into place like so. We'll do this for the other one, as well. Now we'll take our adapter for the actual bar, set that in the center, and then we'll turn it upside down, find our screw at the bottom here, then tighten it down until you hear the clicks.

Now, repeat this for the other tower. Now, we'll go ahead and slide our tower onto our bar like so. We'll do the same for the other side. Then we'll go ahead and put our end caps in place, and so they don't come back out. Next, we'll 00:02:20 focus on our actual landing pads. Go ahead and take our top cover piece off like so, and then we'll attach our actual rubber pad at the bottom.

This just presses into place. We'll repeat this for our other landing pad. Now, we'll move on to the roof of the vehicle and our rear fix point's going to be right here. We'll have to remove this plastic piece on the top. You notice at the top of the plastic piece here it has a little arrow facing forward, so you go to this point here with the flat plated screwdriver. Just push forward and it'll lift right out. The bolt you're looking for is on the inside here where we're going to make our connection point with this bolt that comes with the kit. Now, this landing pad kit does come with several bolts. Please refer to your instructions to find out which one goes with your particular vehicle. Now, go ahead and set our landing pad over where we're going to be installing our bolt. Then we'll install our black plastic washer, and then our bolt, and three metal washers. We'll take our included Allen tool, match it up with our mounting point, and tighten it down. Now, we'll repeat this for the other side. Now, we can set our crossbar into place. Now, we want to make sure that the front here is in the open position. This is so they can rest into our landing pads. We'll set them in the cradles, and then we'll determine the crossbar overhang with our crossbars, and then tighten those down as well. I'm going to go back and forth here a little bit, and then measure it out to make sure that it's even on both sides. That looks good. Then we'll tighten our bars to our towers, and to do that we'll tighten this bolt in the center here with our included torque tool until it clicks. We'll do this on the other side. All right. Our final step is to close up our towers which will lock them into place to our landing pads. Just push them in like so, and now we're ready to hit the road. There you have it for the Yakima Skyline Roof Rack System on our 2017 Kia Soul.

  • Yakima Baseline or Skyline Roof Rack Recommendation for 2016 Mazda CX-5 for Fixed Point Roof
The difference between the Yakima Baseline towers and Skyline towers is the style of roof they are intended which in your case indicates how it would install. The Baseline kits are designed for naked roof and will use the door clamps. The Skyline kits are designed for use on vehicles with factory fixed mounting points. Since this is the route you mentioned preferring on your 2016 Mazda CX-5 it would be your best option. That means you'll want the Yakima Skyline Aero Bar kit part numbers...

  • Yakima Roof Rack Parts for 2018 Subaru WRX
Yes, the Yakima roof rack you mentioned that consists of part numbers # Y00425, # Y53TR, and # Y00233 is a confirmed fit for the roof of your 2018 Subaru WRX and would be a great option. This would then be compatible with the Yakima Forklift part # Y02098 that you mentioned.

  • Does Yakima Roof Rack For Fixed Mounting Points Fit 2015 Mazda CX-5
The Yakima roof rack for fixed mounting points will fit your 2015 Mazda CX-5, yes. Your CX-5 (and all others) do have those fixed mounting points under the ditch molding trim you referred to, so it will work, with the correct part numbers being the following: - Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425 - SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR - Landing Pad 11 # Y00233 - (Optional) Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores # Y07204 As for the crossbars, they are made of anodized aluminum...

  • Longest Roof Rack Bars That Fit a 2015 Subaru Impreza Hatchback
Since you are wanting to use crossbars that may be longer than what is recommended from the manufacturer I would go with a Yakima system. Their JetStream Crossbars have a track system on the bottom that allow them to be more versatile than many other roof racks from competitors. If your 2015 Subaru Impreza Hatchback has a naked roof then you need the SkyLine Towers # Y53TR and Landing Pad 11 # Y00233. For raised rails you simply need the TimberLine Towers # Y00147. In addition to the...

  • 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation
For a Yakima roof rack to fit your 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander that has factory fixed points for a roof rack you are going to need two sets of the Landing Pad 11 part # Y00233, SkyLine Towers part # Y53TR, RoundBar SL Adapter part # Y03536 and 48 inch crossbars # Y00408. I attached a picture I got from Yakima that shows this rack installed on a similar Outlander as yours. The Rhino-Rack Nautic Roof Kayak Carrier # RR571 will fit this rack well.

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Ski/Snowboard Carrier for 2015 Mazda CX-5 with Naked Roof
I highly recommend using the Yakima JetStream roof rack for your 2015 Mazda CX-5 because it has a 165 lb weight capacity, mounts directly to fixed points on your roof, and allows you to use a variety of other roof mount accessories. This consists of the SkyLine Towers # Y53TR, Landing Pad 11 # Y00233, and then your choice of JetStream Bars: 50" Black # Y00425 60" Black # Y00426 70" Black # Y00427 You can then use the Yakima FreshTrack # Y03093 and the Lock Core Set # Y07206 to make...

  • What Length of Yakima JetStream Crossbars is Recommended for 2012 Subaru Forester Roof Rack
For your 2012 Subaru Forester Yakima recommends the 50 inch Jetstream bars if you have the raised roof rails. You'd need the roof rack components # Y00425 and # Y33TR to complete the rack. If instead you don't have roof rails you'd still need 50 inch Jetstream bars with the components # Y00425, # Y53TR, and # Y00233 and you'd be set! I attached an install video that shows a Yakima JetStream roof rack installed on a similar Subaru Forester for you to check out as well.

  • Method to Reduce Wind Noise from Roof Rack on 2014 Mazda 3
Roof rack crossbars do generate noise and some make more noise than others. Round and square bar roof racks tend to be the noisiest and elliptical and aerodynamic bars tend to make less noise. No roof rack will be particularly quiet when you have your sunroof open. That is just the nature of the beast. You can sometimes reduce the noise level of a roof rack by adding a fairing to the front bar, such as Inno's # INA262. These usually help the noisier round and square bar roof racks like...

  • Which Yakima Roof Rack Fits 2014 Mazda CX-5 with Raised Side Rails
For your 2014 Mazda CX-5 with Raised Side Rails we offer several Yakima roof rack options you can see on the linked page. I recommend the Core Bar rack system made of parts # Y00421 and # Y33TR. This costs the same as a basic round bar rack but it will create less wind noise thanks to the bars' more aerodynamic shape. I've linked you to some FAQ articles about roof racks and their available accessories.

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Ford Flex with Vista Roof
You will need a roof rack on your 2009 Ford Flex to be able to use a roof mounted cargo box. For a Yakima roof rack you will need: Yakima TimberLine Towers, # Y33TR, RoundBar SL Adapter # Y03536, crossbars # Y00409, and 2 sets of Landing Pad 11, # Y00233. For a roof rack you could then use the Yakima SkyBox NX 16 Rooftop Cargo Box # Y95AV which has 16 cubic feet of storage space or for a larger one the Yakima SkyBox 21 Rooftop Cargo Box # Y07337.

  • Roof Rack Similar to Whispbar Recommendation for 2014 Tesla Model S with Sunroof
I have a solution that will work well for you but Whispbar was actually bought out by Yakima. So to get the most similar roof rack to a Whispbar for your 2014 Tesla Model S with a sunroof, you'd want the Yakima JetStream roof rack part numbers # Y00426, # Y53TR, and # Y00233. With this you'd have a very high quality roof rack like you are wanting, that has aero shaped bars which will allow you to have minimal wind noise.

  • Recommendation for Carrying 4 Bikes on BMW 535i
The 2015 BMW 5 Series will use a Class I trailer hitch like the Curt trailer hitch # C11381. Due to their limited tongue weight capacity Class 1 trailer hitches are limited to carrying 2 bikes so you won't be able to carry four bikes with the Swagman Titan Bike Rack # S63410. The limited tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of downward force that can be safely applied to the hitch) is one reason, but additional bikes after the first two move the load further rearward away from the receiver...

  • Recommendation for Carrying 2 Kayaks on a 2017 Subaru Impreza
We do have a hitch that will fit your 2017 Subaru Impreza, which is the Draw-Tite # DT24959. If you choose to tow a Kayak trailer, this hitch will work well. However, when I looked up the owner's manual for your Impreza it said that your vehicle was not made or intended for towing trailers. I have another solution that will not void your vehicle's warranty. Yakima has a roof rack system that will allow you to carry both Kayaks, as long as you do not go over your Subaru's roof weight capacity....

For the 2015 Mazda 3, you'll only have access to either Yakima or Rhino Rack roof bars. Both are great companies and there's a few differences that are important to note about the two companies. Rhino Rack doesn't produce as many accessories, but is a smaller than average bar and fits more mounting hardware in both its C-Channel and around the bar. Additionally, its locking system is two part, one for the foot pack and one for the c-channel accessories as a separate part. Finally, Rhino...
