Video Transcript for Feature Review BioLite Portable 5-Watt Solar Panel

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look together at this BioLite Portable 5-Watt Solar Panel. Now, this portable solar panel is going to charge your devices wherever you go. The onboard battery is gonna let you charge devices in real time or store energy for later. Now, this does have a 3,200 milliamp per hour battery. And let me show you the ports that we have on here.

So we have a micro USB port right here that's going to let you actually charge the battery with the cable if you don't have a solar power available at the time, so the battery can always be ready to go. And then you've got a USB-A port there where you can plug in your phone or another device to have this battery charge it up. So those are the two ports that you have there. And then you do have a battery indicator here as well with those lights there, showing you the juice that you have left. The USB-A port that you're gonna use to charge a device, that's a 5-watt output.

And the cell type is monocrystalline, it feels really durable, doesn't feel like it's gonna break easily or anything like that. This does have a weather resistance of IPX4. And if you noticed, we do have an analog sundial there that's going to help you get the perfect alignment that you're going to need to the sun to allow this for maximum charging. And the built-in kickstand here is pretty great, that's gonna help you set this panel up right where you need it. And it's got a bunch of angles there that you can set just to get it right into that right alignment.

But it also has holes here at the bottom here, so you could hang this as well if that's gonna be easier for you if you didn't have anywhere convenient to use the kickstand. So built-in kickstand. Let me go ahead and retrieve my ruler here and just give you some overall measurements, just so you have a good idea of the size. So looking at the width, we're sitting pretty close to 9 5/8 inches wide. The height, we're sitting right at 8 1/8 inches tall.

And then the thickness, about one inch. And this weighs about a pound, so lightweight. And here's the cable that you can use to actually charge the battery if solar power isn't available, the sun isn't available to charge the battery up. You have some instructions here. But this is gonna be a great portable solution to consider if you're gonna be somewhere where you're not able to plug your phone or your other devices in, and you can always be sure that you're going to have a reliable source to charge up those devices. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

Super easy to use. Everything folds up and is easy to carry with the built-in carry handle. Since it isn't very thick, I was able to slide it into by backseat which was full of gear. This let me charge my portable power bank and my phone by using the USB ports on the back of the panel. I had to position it away from my campsite, which was a little strange, but you have to go where the sun is. Getting the angle right was a little tricky but that bubble sundial thingy helped a lot. This panel is perfect for Anyone wanting to give solar a try without investing big money. People with limited space for a huge solar set up. Someone interested in solar but not interested in investing in a big power station.

I got to try out the BioLite Portable 10+ Solar Panel, and what stood out right away was how easy it was to get set up and dialed in. It’s super slim and lightweight, so I could toss it in my daypack without it taking up room, and it’s built to go with you — I even clipped it to my backpack using the kickstand while hiking. The built-in battery is awesome for storing power while you're on the move, and the sundial on the panel helps you fine-tune the angle so you’re getting the most out of the sun. I liked being able to see exactly how much charge I was getting, and the indicator lights made it easy to keep track of the battery level too.

The folding design makes this panel feel compact, but you still get 10 watts of output, which means faster charging when the sun’s out. I tested it in bright sun, and it was exciting to see it go from low to full charge in about two hours. The USB-A and Micro-USB ports are protected with rubber covers, so I didn’t have to worry when things got a little wet. It’s IPX4-rated, so it can handle light rain or splashes no problem. If you’re deciding between the 5+ and the 10+, I’d go with the 10 — it’s the same size when folded but gives you more power, which just makes sense when you’re out trying to stay charged and keep moving.

I got my hands on the BioLite Portable 5-Watt Solar Panel, and honestly, it’s such a neat little panel for light adventures. It’s compact, lightweight, and has just enough power to keep a phone or small device charged when you're out and about. I was able to clip it to my pack using the kickstand while hiking, and since it has its own battery, I didn’t need to bring along a power bank just to store a charge. There’s a built-in sundial — yes, a tiny analog sundial! — and once I lined up the shadow just right, I could really tell it made a difference in how much sunlight the panel was catching.

One of my favorite parts? The kickstand clicks through different angles, which helped a ton when trying to find the right tilt in uneven terrain. Plus, the indicator on top lets you know how much sunlight you're getting and how full your battery is. It’s got a USB-A output and a Micro-USB input, so while I do wish it came with USB-C, the included cable worked with my other gear. And because it’s IPX4 rated, I didn’t worry when a few drops hit while I was setting up in partial shade. If you’re like me and usually haul around a 100-watt panel, this one’s a refreshingly simple option for day hikes or low-power days when you still want to keep your phone topped off.
