Video Transcript for Kuat Ibex Adjustable Overland Truck Bed Rack Review

Hi, everyone. Aiden here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Kuat Ibex Truck Bed Rack Overlanding Rack. This is gonna come in a variety of different shapes and sizes for different trucks. Whether you've got a mid-size truck like a Tacoma here or a full-size truck like an F-250. RAM 2500.

You're gonna have all the different sizes that you need to get you going, and give you a really solid rack for overlanding. This is going to serve a bunch of different purposes, and be able to adjust heights, adjust crossbar spreads, and have a wide variety of different accessories that can work with this. Let's check it out. So today, we're gonna be checking out the IBEX on our Tacoma. That's what we we're able to install it on today, and this is the short bed Tacoma.

This will work with a long bed Tacoma. If you have that, and there's other full-size truck options like we mentioned, just check out our fit guide, plug in your vehicle information, and your bed length and find the right kit for you and make sure you get the one that fits. It also comes with lots of different mounting options including parts for mounting in a utility track like we're using today. Clamps forged a simple clam bond installation to your bedrail. Or if you've got a retraced tile cover, there's a separate available adapter to mount into the T-track that some retracts covers have.

So you're gonna have a tunnel cover, and the IBEX mounted up. Again, just making sure that you include that separate adapter if you have that scenario. As far as accessories go, you've got a couple different routes you can go. Like the ones that are made specifically for the IBEX. Kuat makes full molle panels for the sides so you can mount up your accessories that way.

You've got things like grab handles, antenna mounts, bottle openers, and even a bike rack mount that'll go on the side. So there's a really wide ecosystem of accessories available that Kuat makes that are designed specifically for this. But of course you can always use the channels to mount things up, like off-road lights to light up your campsite, and customize a little bit to your needs. Those T-track channels can be seen all throughout the rack on top of the crossbars. On top of the side mounts. On the side of those side mounds underneath the bars. Really anywhere you can think of. So if you've got T-track accessories or like I said, some lighting to maybe light up your campsite, you can find lots of places to mount those. But of course, you've got the crossbars for mounting up rooftop accessories. I think the biggest one of those probably being something like a tent, but you could also mount up things like bike racks, and cargo baskets if you already have some of those. To adjust them, you've got a couple of bolts you can loosen up, and allow you to adjust the crossbar spread, and slide it back and forth, just like that, to whatever crossbar spread you may need. So if you've got a certain accessory that needs a more narrow spread or you just want the wider spread for long support on maybe like a platform, you can set it to wherever works, and tighten down those bolts on the sides, and underneath to get it all secured again. So obviously, this is the mid-size option that we're looking at installed right now, and it's fitting on our Tacoma just fine. But let's say you've got a Colorado, and the width of that bed is just a little bit different. To make sure that this works, the wide range of trucks, these crossbar are telescoping. So this middle section here that looks a little bit different, that can slide within itself or expand out even more to adjust for the width of our bed. So depending on the truck you have, you can get it to fit perfectly between the bed rails. Some other points of adjustment you get are with the height. Now, it's not a fully height adjustable system where you can set it really anywhere you like, but rather this is the mid height configuration, and you can have a short height configuration, and the molle panels that are made for this are designed to be used in one or the other. They're sized appropriately for that. So right now we've got it in the mid height. You can see it fits perfectly around our back window on our particular truck today. And if we wanted to, we could bring it down lower and basically just take out this middle section here where these two seams are. It's a little bit more involved to do so, probably not something you're gonna be doing all the time back and forth, but rather when you're doing the initial setup, when you get it out of the box, you'll probably include this piece or omit it. Personally, if you're going with something like a tent and you want to have better clearance height wise, go with the short configuration. Or if you prefer to have better access to your truck bed, go with this mid height configuration because it's not gonna block your back window as much and you've got more room to work in the bed. It's all gonna come down to your personal preferences, and across all the different truck sizes, you're gonna have that option for mid height and short height. The specific measurements are gonna be a little bit different in this configuration right now in our mid-sized truck option. it's 19 inches tall from the bed rails. Whereas on the option that's designed for the Ford Super Duties, and the 2500 series trucks, that mid-size option or the mid height option, is gonna be a little bit taller, sized appropriately for those trucks that are just naturally bigger. So it's all gonna be proportional to whatever kit you choose. So be sure to check out the proper one for your truck, and you can see the specific measurements on how they're gonna stack up. Overall, it's gonna be an aluminum construction that's gonna keep things lightweight, and rust-resistant. And the powder coat over the top is going to protect that metal underneath, but also give it a really nice look. The fit and finish on this is really next to none, and especially on our truck today, I think it compliments it really well, and the fact that it's sized so appropriately for the length of the bed helps a lot. Now as far as capability goes, it's going to have a 600-pound weight capacity, and that's on road. off-road, it drops down a little bit, two, 300 pounds, which is still very capable. I think that's gonna be more than enough for a tent, bike and maybe some other accessories on the side depending on what you have loaded up. Just make sure you're not overloading it, and you check out what you do have attached, and that it's within the limit depending on whether you're using it on or off road and that's all there is to it. The Kuat IBEX I think is going to be a really solid option for your trucks depending on how you plan on using it. If you're using your truck for a camping rig, and you plan on taking it off road, and need a wide range of mounting options for accessories and you wanna really deck this out to customize it to your needs, I think that's gonna be the perfect canvas to do that. All the different T-track channels, and mounting options for accessories up top, and on the sides if you get the Molle panels, is gonna be really nice to customize this to fit your needs. The other thing I like is how easy it is to adjust your crossbar spread. So if you are frequently swapping between accessories, that's gonna be easy to do. You can leave the whole rack clamp down in place, and all you have to do is just loosen a few screws to slide those crossbars back and forth. So for me, the IBEX is a really solid option. There's a lot of capabilities, and options within it, depending on the accessories you choose, but it's gonna be a great way to get an over landing rack on your truck. Thanks for watching.

  • Can The Kuat Piston SR Bike Rack KU32VR Be Mounted On Both Sides Of The Ibex Truck Bed Rack?
To start with, the Kuat Ibex Truck Bed Rack # KU36ZR is designed to fit a 2022 Toyota Tacoma with a 6 foot bed (with or without the Deck Rail System), so just double check your bed size to be sure. If you have the 5 foot bed, you will need the # KU29ZR as it is designed for the shorter bed (you would also need the shorter MOLLE panel # KU74ZR in this case). Next up, everything you mention will absolutely work together. The Piston Bike Rack Mount for Ibex Truck Bed Racks # KU67ZR will mount...

  • Can the 2024 Chevy Colorado Kuat Ibex Rack Be Used for a Roof Top Tent
Absolutely! The Kuat Ibex Customizable Overland Truck Bed Rack # KU29ZR is a great option for carrying a roof top tent on your 2024 Chevy Colorado! The crossbars measure 4" x 2" which is a bit larger than normal crossbars so you'll need to ensure the mounting kit for your roof rack can either fit that crossbar size or it can mount via T-Bolts. For example, the Thule Basin Wedge Rooftop Tent and Cargo Box # TH92VY will fit these crossbars when you use the Ladder Rack Adapter Kit # THXADAPT14...
