The UtilityRac base rails provide the foundation for this unique, customizable system. Each rail has two tracks, one that runs along the top for mounting your ladder rack and one along the interior for mounting various accessories, such as the base rail tie-downs (sold separately). To slide the rack, simply turn the quick-release knob on each rack base until all the bases are loose enough to slide. Once you have the rack in the desired position, retighten the knobs to lock the rack in place.
Included with your UtilityRac system are four 24-inch base rails. These pieces mount in each corner of your truck box to provide 2 feet of travel length for your sliding ladder rack. If your truck box is 6 feet long, you can purchase Thule TracRac's track extensions (sold separately) to fill the gap between the included rails, allowing your rack to slide the full length of your truck box.
The sturdy aluminum crossbars on all Thule TracRac truck racks feature integrated slots for mounting and easily adjusting accessories, such as the included load stops. These slots appear on both the top and bottom of the bars for the ultimate in mounting versatility. Like the pieces that mount in the base rails, these accessories also have quick-release knobs that let you loosen and tighten them with a mere twist of a knob so that they can be positioned as needed along the bars.
A built-in trip strip at the front of each crossbar shields the slots from wind, maintaining the aerodynamic quality of the bars and preventing that annoying whistle you often find with slotted bars.
Included with your Thule TracRac G2 are eight tie-down accessories. The four load stops are designed to mount in the slots of the crossbars and slide along them for quick, easy adjustment. These bookend-style pieces help to hold ladders and lumber in place on the crossbars. They also have built-in loops for securing tie-down straps.
The four cleats attach at any of the provided mounting points along the outsides of the upright supports so that you can tie down items that require additional anchoring or that sit in your truck bed.
The Thule TracRac base rails and rack system, as well most Thule TracRac accessories, are constructed of durable, lightweight aluminum. Because aluminum is lighter than steel - the material most often used for truck racks - only a small percentage of your truck's cargo capacity is taken up by the rack itself, enabling you to pack on more weight than you could with a steel system.
Even though aluminum is already rustproof in itself, Thule TracRac has taken the extra step of adding a dual powder coat finish to further protect your rack. The electrostatic powder coat (e-coat) clings to the metal surface better than traditional paint finishes for a more durable covering. The second coat is a clear finish that adds extra shine and protection from scuffs and scratches.

Hi, everyone. Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our Thule Thule TracRac Utility Rack Sliding Ladder Rack for your utility vehicles. Now this, folks, is considered the short version of this Thule TracRac utility rack. They do make this in different heights. This is the short one.
Now when this is installed, it'll look something like this photo. Keep in mind it's a utility bed that this is going on and bolting in place. Now, I wanna point out as well, from the beginning, I've only got about half of this rack set up here for demo today due to space constraints and those kind of things, and some of it is loose fitting so bear with me today. I do wanna open an image of what you're gonna get in the box. You're gonna get all the hardware, all the uprights, all the support legs, all the knobs, all the L brackets for the ladder rack, tie down points, those kind of things.
Every kind of space you need, everything you're gonna get. So what you're seeing before you, you're basically gonna get this times two. And again, all the hardware has been pretty much used with the exemption of, obviously, this isn't bolted onto a bed yet. Now getting into it, this adjustable ladder rack will slide in unique T-track base rails. So these rails here that you see on the side, if I zoom in here, you can get a better view.
These are a T-track slot. If I loosen this knob here, this could slide forward and back. Now I'm gonna try to do it gently, or at least slide the base here just to kind of show you. Keep in mind I'm not bolting in anything. So that's about as far as I'm gonna be able to go safely today.
But this can slide forward or back about six to eight inches, give or take. You can buy extra rails versus what this comes with, sold separately if you wanna be able to slide the full length of that utility rack. Now I've got it zoomed in here, again, you have nice quick locking knobs. You've got anchor points here. The uprights here are only about 17 inches tall. And on the top here you've got a locking knob, and then you can loosen and slide this anchor point along with the other side. And then, let's see, you have a piece of piping here maybe. You tighten these down, now it's not going anywhere. More importantly, you're probably using it for maybe a ladder or something like that. You tighten it down, move this one to where you need, tighten 'em both down, and then whatever's in here, again, is not going anywhere. So a very simple design, very nice. You got anchor points here and here. And the fact this can slide all the way out to the edge is pretty impressive. Now everything here is a nice aluminum construction. It's not gonna rust or corrode. They've e-coated this followed by a clear coat for improved resistance to scratches. So they've done that. Again, everything's aluminum. It's lightweight, but sturdy. Now the overall length of these upright bars are gonna be pretty long. Let's get a measurement on them. And that's gonna be to hold lots of gear for you. I'm right at about 69 and a half long. So 69 and one half inches long on the overall width of those bars. And again, 17 inches from the base here to the bottom of the support bar. So again, this is a nice option for you if you're looking for a rack for your utility beds. And again, they're gonna be some drilling required to install this. You're gonna get two of these uprights and everything. These can hold 1,250 pounds carrying capacity when you use 'em both together. So they're gonna be very nice. Now you have a wide base option on these bases here. You can flip this sideways if you need to to fit your specific utility bed, and that will give you a wider kind of stability there. And then this slot here, your base would be on that upright versus the other one. So it could drop it potentially a little lower if you need that. Or just depending on your utility bed, how you need to install it. Now this, again, is a 6,000 series aluminum construction. It's very strong and durable. The top here is an airflow design. So air goes right up and over it, which is gonna make 'em quieter. You don't have to worry about vibrations and those kind of things, or whistling. So very nice option. Well folks, I think that's gonna wrap it up for our quick look today. Before we go, one last thing. These knobs up here that you can slide the full length, there's a slot about here on the track. You can actually take them up and out if you need to. And if you want to put something super flat on top and you didn't need these, you can potentially take them out if you need it. So that's another nice feature as well. Again, simply screw 'em in tight and you're good to go. Well that's gonna wrap it up, folks. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.
great fit. etrailer delivered when nobody else could. Will be coming back if I need anything.
I do really like the versatility of this ladder rack. I have this type of ladder rack on a truck I purchased that was set up for construction and is the main reason I ordered this one. I do suggest the full rail for both sides of the truck for the simple moving of the back rack forward when not in use. Not to mention it does look good on the trucks compared to others.
First of all, the quality of the materials is not in question - this is a good looking, solid rack with excellent functionality. No complaints there. Somebody on e-trailer responded to a question and reported that the height of this rack is 22" to the bottom of the bars and that the bars add an additional 2" - which I took to mean that the top of the bars would be at 24", but that is not the case. The top the bars is 22". That misinformation is frustrating, because I had anticipated that the top of the bars would be *just* over the top of my cab, but instead, they are about an inch below the top of my cab. That was not a fun discovery. Also, the mounting directions for this rack might be the worst I have ever seen. The printed directions do not even match the parts list - meaning that there are numerous parts included that are necessary to install that are not mentioned anywhere in the directions. I studied these instructions for hours trying to figure them out, but due to numerous missing steps and the parts not matching the parts list, I had to piece it together with my own best guesses as to what the parts were intended for. I didn't want to ding this product by lowering the star rating because it looks good and feels secure and strong and well designed, but I just can't gloss over the extremely frustrating installation. I'm very mechanically inclined, so let me just say ... "good luck - you will need it."
