Truck camping often forces a choice between secure storage and the rack space needed for rooftop tents, recovery gear, and adventure equipment. The Kuat Ibex combines both in a single system, pairing a heavy-duty rack with locking steel side and rear panels that create an enclosed cargo area below. Your camp gear and supplies stay protected inside the bed while the rack above remains ready for a rooftop tent or other equipment. As your setup evolves, the modular design gives you room to expand with additional storage, organization, and gear-carrying accessories.
A rooftop tent can turn your truck into a comfortable basecamp, but it also demands a rack that can handle the weight. The Ibex supports up to 300 lbs while driving and 1,200 lbs when parked, giving you the capacity needed for overnight setups and extended adventures. While your tent rides overhead, the enclosed bed keeps your gear organized and protected below, making the most of every inch of your truck.
The way you use your truck today may not be the way you use it a year from now. This system is built with a modular mindset that gives you room to adapt as your adventures evolve. Add interior MOLLE storage (sold separately) to organize tools and trail essentials, install crossbar risers (sold separately) for additional roof clearance, or adjust the crossbars to fit new gear as your setup changes. Instead of replacing your topper when your needs grow, you can continue building on the platform you already have.
When gear is packed for a weekend away or a longer expedition, the items you need most are rarely sitting at the tailgate. The gas-assisted side and rear panels give you multiple access points into the bed, making it easier to reach your gear throughout your setup. You can pull out a camp stove for lunch, grab recovery gear after a muddy trail section, or reach a jacket before the weather turns without unloading half the truck.
Not every trip comes with perfect weather or freshly paved roads. The weather-resistant seals help reduce rain, dust, and road grime from entering the enclosed cargo area, giving your gear more protection than an open rack alone. From unexpected downpours to long stretches of gravel, your equipment stays sheltered throughout the journey.
The Ibex mounts directly to the Tacoma's factory utility rails using included hardware, eliminating the need to drill into the truck bed. The rack and panel system installs as a complete assembly, creating a secure enclosed cargo area while maintaining full rack functionality above. Because the panel kit attaches directly to the Ibex frame, this configuration is not compatible with tonneau covers. Hello neighbors, it's Brad from etrailer and today we are at the Moore Overland Expo Show in Springfield, Missouri. And I'm with Craig from Kuat. And we're taking a look at the Ibex series. We have this whole system here on a Tacoma, but something's a little bit different than the normal Ibex that I'm used to. What do we got here today Yeah, so welcome. We have today we're showing our panel kit, which will be available with our Ibex system on this truck.
This is a third gen short bed Tacoma. So the kit will be available for the second and third gen short bed Tacoma to start. But this will click into your existing Ibex SKU so there's not another frame that you have to purchase. You can go ahead and get this system knowing that the all four doors in the roof will be compatible with that SKU. So this is, it's all aluminum is gastro operated, so the doors stay open, they're lockable.
So it's kind of a visual deterrent as well as actually has cores. None of the panels are load bearing. So I think one of the coolest features is that you're still able to keep that static weight of 1200 pounds on the crossbars. The riser kit is gonna be available too to bump the bars up so you can actually get underneath and attach and fix accessories on. So, but we hope to have this later this summer year for the second, third gen Tacoma short bed.
Brad So you get all the usability of the accessories up top, but you can still close everything up, keep it contained, you get the best ball worlds. Craig Yeah. And then really quick, like if one day too, if you wanna pop out this window and put in one of our molle panels or keep it open, it's really fast. It's like minutes to just click this system out and click in a molle panel Brad So you can custom fit it to your application Craig Right, so you're not always cap centric. You can always strip back down to the exoskeleton and reconfigure, you know, in any different, you know, application for whatever you want to use it for.
Brad It's definitely one of the coolest looking configurations like this, or one that I've never really seen. So walking by the booth, I was like, that's pretty sharp looking and it's Kuat. I personally have a Kuat bike rack and I handle a lot of Kuat products at etrailer. They're all fantastic. I'm not just saying that, 'cause Craig's here, they really are. There's a lot of love put into these. There's a lot of thought process coming from enthusiasts to really make an enthusiast product. And this is definitely one of those applications.
