Features to know about

Get More Utility Out of Your Vehicle: Class III 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver

This hitch is built for real-world use with a 2" x 2" receiver opening that’s ready for towing gear, cargo baskets, or bike racks. It’s rated for a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs. When used with weight distribution, those limits increase to 6,000 lbs GTW and 600 lbs TW. That kind of strength gives you the flexibility to haul a small camper, boat, or utility trailer with confidence.

Easy DIY Install at Home: Bolt-On Mounting with Precision Fit

The fully welded design bolts directly to the frame without any welding required. The mounting holes are designed to line up with existing points on the vehicle, so installation stays simple for anyone working in a driveway or home garage. The complete hardware kit and step-by-step instructions come in the box, so you can get it mounted using basic tools—no special equipment needed.

Built to Last Through Every Tow: Sturdy Steel with Rust-Resistant Finish

The square-tube construction and precision, robotic welding give this hitch extra strength and durability for long-term use. A gloss black powder coat finish over a protective base coat adds superior rust resistance and keeps the hitch looking clean even after years of exposure to road grime and weather.

Ready for Everyday Use: Works with Ball Mounts and Towing Accessories

Once installed, the 2" receiver opening works with standard towing and cargo accessories like ball mounts, pins, and clips (sold separately). Whether you’re setting up your trailer or adding a storage platform for a road trip, this hitch gives you the versatility to get more out of your vehicle every day.

hitch looks good.... I am satifyed. have not installed it yet

by:

I have used this on my Mercury Mountaineer and it is a good product and came very fast. No issues at all. If you order from this company do not worry. For all my pulling needs they always impress.

by:

The hitch itself is well constructed but does not fit the Explorer without modification to make it wider to fit over the framerails. I had to take it to my mechanic to be altered to fit.

by:

It does exactly what I needed to do. Thanks again for your quick service. That was impressive.

This hitch did not fit as delivered. The spacing between the vertical mounting ears was too narrow to embrace the vehicle's frame rails by 5/8 inch!
As the original owner of my 1996 Ford Explorer, I attest to its integrity and history of no damage and no abuse. I am a professional mechanic and was comfortable with, and capable of, spreading the attaching flange, "ears" gap a bit wider to fit the car's frame rails. It was much more of a chore to install than expected. All is OK now.
It was disturbing to view the fine print at the top of the instruction page, 757230, which states, " Will not fit with full size spare tire". That contradicts your web page's guidelines and applications charts.. This hitch, in fact, does accommodate the full size spare on my vehicle.
The quality of constriction is good and the powdercoat finish is good The packaging was good. The hardware kit and diagrams are good.
The free freight is remarkable and the two-days delivery time was astonishing!

It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment. This can happen to the hitch while in transit to us or to you. We do have an article that can provide a solution to allow the hitch to be installed.

  • Availability of Trailer Hitch That Fits 1997 Ford Explorer Sport 2-Door
Hi Tom; the Curt # C13033 you ordered will fit your 1997 Ford Explorer Sport 2-Door as long as you do not have a full size spare tire. If you do have a full size spare you want the # 13540 instead which won't require relocating it.

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack to Carry Adult Trike on 2000 Ford Explorer
Even though we don't have any bike racks to carry your trike, I do have a solution for you. You can add a hitch and a small utility trailer. First the hitch, you could use the Curt # 13540 or Curt # C13106 hitch. Both allow you to keep your full size spare tire in place. I included links to both of these. As they are similarly priced, I recommend the Curt # 13540 because it is a little easier to install. This "hitch" gets you the part that bolts onto your Explorer frame and the 2" square...

  • Bolt Hole and Upright Mounting Tab Spacing for Curt C13033 Class III Hitch
The inside dimension between the upright tabs that would sit against the outer edge of the frame members is 41 inches, while the center to center hole spacing on the tabs that mount to the underside of the frame member is 39 inches. I've shown these dimensions on the photo I've put together for you. The hitch fits the following vehicles: • 1991 - 2000 Ford Explorer • 2001 - 2003 Ford Explorer 2-Door • 2001 - 2001 Ford Explorer 4-Door • 1997 - 2001 Mercury Mountaineer • 1991 - 1994 Mazda Navajo

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch that Keeps Spare Tire for a 1997 Ford Explorer
For your 1997 Ford Explorer there are a few options for trailer hitches that will retain the spare tire under the vehicle. These include Curt hitches # C13106 and # 13540 and Draw-Tite hitch # 75096. Of these hitches Curt hitch # 13540 has the easiest installation. I have linked the instructions for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
I checked with Curt and the correct hitch for your 2001 Ford Explorer Sport is item # C13033. This hitch is confirmed to fit the Sport base model. It is the only hitch they have listed for your vehicle. To add a wiring harness you will want the item # C59496. This is a universal wiring kit that you will need to splice into your existing wires. There are not custom fit kits for your vehicle. To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item #...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2000 Ford Explorer that Allows Full Size Spare to Be Kept
I have a hitch solution that will allow you to keep the full sized spare underneath your 2000 Ford Explorer, but the Curt part # C13033 will not allow this. Instead you would need the part # 13540 which is also a confirmed fit for your vehicle but it does allow you to keep the spare. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop....
