Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your hood stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your hood to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Now, this gas rut has been designed to fit your 2001 to 2006 BMW M3, both the convertible and the coop. Now, if your vehicle's hood keeps closing while you're trying to work on your engine, it's gonna be time to change that strut.
If you replace it with this custom fit gas strut, that's gonna make your hood operate just like new again. As you can see here, the connection type is ball socket and the extended length measuring center of socket to center of socket is right at 12 and 7/16th inches. And then the compressed length will be seven and 11/16th inches. The dampening groove inside the tube is gonna prevent bouncing, giving you a smooth operation in any temperature, extending the rod from the tube to open the hood and hold it in place, and then compressing the rod slowly to close the hood without slamming shut. The internal wiper prevents sticking.
It's gonna reduce friction by lubricating the rod with oil, and this is gonna be a quick tool free installation. This is going to connect directly to your vehicle's OEM fittings. And this has a black powder coated steel tube and a nitrate coated rod, so it's gonna be rust resistant. And it is always a good idea to replace your struts in pairs where applicable. Most hoods have a strut on each side, so failure to replace both of those struts could possibly result in a warped or damaged hinge.

The price was very reasonable compared to OEM, and if they hold up they will well deserve the 5 STARS. Easy for a one person install once I figured out removal and discarding of the original strut fasteners was required. Fortunately, the fastening hardware supplied with these replacements were the same size.
