Video Transcript for Fifth Wheel Installation - 2015 GMC Sierra 3500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 GMC Sierra 3500, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Reese Elite Series under-bed rail and installation kit for the 5th wheel trailer hitches. Part number RP30868.Here's what the Elite Series under-bed kit looks like installed. As you can see, we've got four connections points that sit flush with the top of the bed. This, unlike most other 5th wheel systems out on the market give us full access.A lot of times what we're going to have are rails that go across the bed, which doesn't give us a nice even surface. So as we're trying to slide things in and out, they get hung up or they'll rock on top of it back and forth. This is going to eliminate that for you and also eliminates the need for you to have pieces of plywood to take up those gaps or anything like that.Though not in use, you can see we've go the rubber plug.

That's going to cap off that lug system. We'll pull that off and that's going to allow the Reese either Elite or Signature Series 5th wheels or goosenecks to go down in, turn the handle and lock them into position. We've also got the rubber ring that's going to fit around there. Gives it a really nice clean look. Now when we remove our 5th wheel, all we have to do is take our plug, put that back in. That's going to keep any dirt, debris or if you're hauling mulch or something like that.

It's going to keep that from falling down in there and clogging up that plug. Now here you can get a good look at the rails mounted under the bed. These are really, really heavy duty. Some of the more heavy rails that we put in. These are going to give us a weight capacity of up to 25,000 pounds. Of course, check your owner's manual to see what your truck's rated at and don't exceed that. You'll also notice in our rails, we're going to have threaded holes on both the rear and the front.

That's for adding a gooseneck if you decide that's necessary. Now our frame brackets and our cross rails are both heavy duty powder coat steel. So they're going to stay looking good for a long time to come.Something that really draws me to the Reese Elite Series mounted outside of the bed rail is simply that all of their hardware is on the outside where it's going to be much easier to get to as opposed to a lot of the 5th wheel kits where the frame brackets are going to come up and they sit right on top of the frame rail. Some of those are almost impossible to get torqued down properly. Now in looking through all our customer questions and our customer reviews, it seems like the main question that comes out of the Elite Series kit is going to be the noise associated with it. How noisy is this as compared to other 5th wheel systems From the customer reviews and what our customers say when they put it in use, there's virtually no noise associated with it at all.

They feel that it's one of the finest 5th wheel systems out there on the market today. Now to begin out installation for Elite Series Rail kit, we're going to loosen up the bed. That we can raise it up slightly. Now, your instructions are going to tell you to remove the heat shield first and if you want to, you can, but when we raise up the bed it's going to give us a lot better access to the bolts that actually hold the heat shield. We're going to remove all three bolts from the passenger side. We're going to loosen up the driver's side and that will allow us to tilt the bed up just slightly. Now in the front edge of the bed in front of the passenger side tire, you're going to see one bolt right here. It's 18 millimeter head and one just ahead of it. We're going to completely remove both of those. Now for our third attachment point, we'll come behind the tire. Right at the end of the lease frame if you look right above it your going to see that third fastener. Now we've got the same bolt in the same location over here on the driver's side. Remember, we're just going to have these loose, not fully removed. With that out, we're going to put it back in and just start it with a couple threads. Now we'll do the same thing for our other two.Now you can see we're going to use our pull jack here. This is going to help us to raise the bed up. You can also get a couple of buddies and have them kind of push up on it for you. Now if you're not going to be using a pull jack to where you can have constant support, you'll want to, after somebody raises that bed up for you, you'll want to put a few blocks in here. That's going to keep that bed from coming back down. You'll see we have also positioned a pull jack here in the rear. Again, we want to elevate this side of the bed slightly. This is the hitch cross tube. You'll see this little V here. Above that there's a hole. See my socket, it's going to come out right up here. We've got one last bed bolt that's located directly up right there. Now I've used the 10-inch extension. Again, 18 millimeter socket and we're going to get that removed. Then we can loosen the same one here on the driver's side. Now you'll notice we've started with our spare tire removed here. It's ideal to get that down and out of the way to give yourself room and it's time to remove the heat shield. We've got two bolts right above where the spare tire was. Then on each hat channel, which are the boxes that come down from the bed, we're going to have two bolts. You can see where they had an old gooseneck in right here. They've cut the heat shield from that point to this point. In most standard applications, this will be solid. So just get your bolts removed coming forward. Now we're going to remove it up until the point to where this heat shield splits. We don't need to take this forward portion off. We're going to remove these two bolts and the six others going rearward. To do those, we'll use a T25 torque bit. Now, if your heat shield wasn't modified beforehand, there would be a solid piece here. What we want to do is cut it off right across that top edge there to a pretty nice clean cut.Now this is a pretty thin material so you can use snips. You can use shears. You could use a rotary tool if you wanted to. Just get a good cut across there. Now we can reinstall that forward section. To do that, we're just going to reuse the same hardware we removed earlier. Now we can install our rear cross member here. This is going to go behind the hat channel. It's located just behind our axle. The axle center's here, hat channel there. We're going to go behind it. Now this is a long bed application. If you have a short bed application, you'll want to check that per the instructions and put it where it's supposed to go.I'm going to slide that across. We're resting on that rear shock mount. Then I can go underneath and lift it over fully so we had this centered underneath our bed.Now we'll do the same thing for the forward rail. That should be positioned right here. Now that one we rest just right over on that fuel cell. We're going to bring it across just behind that. Now we can start lowering our jacks down. We can bring that bed back down. Now there's wire loom here on each side here. I want to bring that to the outside of the bed lip. You can see that's actually bent here. I'm going to have to straighten that back out for clearance, but you bring it back to the outside and just push it back in. That's going to give us room so that the rails don't smash that against the bottom of the bed. We'll move that wire loom on both sides of the truck, passenger and driver's side. Now we can go to all four locations on both sides. Get our bolts back in place and secured down. Now with all of those started, we can resecure our bed.Now we're going to get our side plates installed. This is going to be identical in the passenger and on the driver side. Only small difference you're going to have is you'll see that the side plate here is tapered. It's going to be thicker in the rear than it is in the front. Now we're going to take one of the large nuts that's welded to the plate. It goes right into the end of our cross rail. You can just center it up with your finger. Do the same thing for our rear rail. We'll take the largest hex head bolt in our kit and the largest conical tooth washer. That's going to go up through the elongated holes in the plate. That's going to be threaded right up into that nut plate. We'll just leave these hand tight for now or even a little bit loose. Now the wire loom is going to prevent us from getting it up fully into position. So we'll raise that up out of the way. Now we'll go do the same thing for our other side. Now the two oblong holes that are the downward side of our plate. You see, they're almost lined up with the holes in the frame so adjust it so that those are a little bit more lined up. That there looks good. That's our pull wire. It's going to go in the hole and it's going to come out the axis hole that's on the back side of the frame rail here. Let's place that in. Guide to towards that hole. We'll go on the under side and we can pull that through. Here's that access hole. As you can see, it's just above our jounce bumper. Reach in and pull the pull wire out. We'll attach one of our carriage bolts with the spacer blade. Then that bolt just gets threaded right on. I'm going to slide my spacer block in. Then my bolt. Now we'll just gently bring our pull wire up and through our hole.Another bolt through, we're going to remove the pull wire. We're going to add on our conical tooth washer. The teeth of that, just like before, they need to face toward our plate. Then we can thread on our hex nut. Now these will just be loosely installed for now. We'll do the same thing for our forward attachment point.Once we have these started, we're going to head over to the driver's side and we're going to repeat that exact same process there. Now with our side plates loosely installed, we're going to remove both of the larger bolts that attache the side plates to the frame plates to our side rails. This is going to allow us to move these forward and move that backward so we can drill our holes down through the bed without running into that. Now we've got the rear rail moved to rearward on our frame. We're also going to move this front rail rearward. If you try to go forward, it's going to run into the tank there. Let's bring it back. We'll get our holes drilled out.Now we're going to find the center of our bed, which is typically right in the middle of this corrugation that runs forward. Then you need to follow your instructions to get all four of your hole locations exactly where they need to be. Now as you can see, this truck does have a spray in bed liner. Whatever the thickness of this liner is you need to accommodate for that to keep your holes where you need them to be.If you have a drop-in bed liner, it's best to completely remove it to drill these holes because it can move around on you a little bit and they might not wind up where you want them. Now once we verify, do you want to double check, measure several times here. Make sure everything's where it needs to be. We'll use a 3-1/4-inch hole saw. We want to drill out all four hole locations. Now we're going to use either like a carbide bit of file. Whatever you have. Just clean up your holes so you don't have any sharp edges.Once we have all those cleaned up, we'll go through. We're going to vacuum up all of our metal shavings. Get rid our trash here. Then we're going to touch it up with a little bit of black spray paint. Whatever spray paint color you want to use. You just want to touch those metal edges up just to prevent rusting. Now, we'll do the same thing here on the bottom. Then we'll slide our rails back into place. Once we have our rails back into position here, we're going to go outside and reattach them to our frame bracket. Now, we'll have our bolts just a little bit loose here. That will allow us a little bit of adjustment room for our rail front to back so we can smear it up under our hole. Not the rail centered underneath the hole there. Got a flat washer. This needs to go right down between the rail and the bottom here. We're going to place our rubber ring around. Place our bolt through. See, that's going to have the lock washer on it. Then this is going to thread right into the rail. Now we're going to get that started with the 3/8 hex bit. Now we'll get the other three started the same way.Now we're going to get these bolts snug down and torqued to the specifications, which are listed in our instructions. Now you can see as we're doing this, we're tightening them up a little bit from side to side just so we get good even pressure.Once we have this done, we'll move to the side plates and our cross rails. Now, with everything torqued down properly and our spare tire back in place, that's going to complete our installation of the Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel trailer hitches with the under-bed rail and installation kit, part number RP30868 on our 2015 GMC Sierra 3500.

I ordered the frame mount over the internet via the web site. I found the web site to be very accurate to find the correct part to fit my truck. I received the product just three business days later. Upon receipt via UPS, the box was extensively damaged and open on the end. Upon opening, I found all of the hardware and a few of the pucks missing. I made a call the following morning to Etrailer to report the issue. Kevin was so understanding and willing to help with no issues, only wanting to get the order corrected.. He took the information I had and ask I send a few pictures of the damage. I sent them immediately as he said as soon as he got them he would get the replacemant parts in the mail. Three days later I received the missing parts via USPS and in excellent condition. This company is exceptional and are very customer oriented. I have ordered other products also and never been disappointed. Also I have found their prices to be very competitive! They have earned all of my business. 478551

I've been very happy with the Reese RP 30868 that allowed me to use the puck system on my 2017 Chevy 2500HD Duramax. It seems to be very sturdy and well built. I'm using it with a B&W Companion hitch that is easy to put in and take out with the puck setup. I would have given the RP 30868 5 stars if it would have had the GM base pattern. I'm using the Ford style base that works perfectly fine with it. I am and have a Happy Camper! 473835

This was the deciding factor in purchasing my 2017 Chevrolet 3500. If I could not put my Companion 5th wheel in it, I would find a dually ford. I purchased the kit with the reassurance from customer service while at the dealership after they reassured me they could install it. I am extremely pleased with the look and the function of the product! Thank you! 583856

The first box I got was missing parts, they shipped the missing parts fast and had no problems installing the hitch. Have ordered many things from etrailer and this was the first problem I had. Will do business with them again. 456174

Product was easy to install and almost disappears when the 5th wheel hitch is removed. Once I installed these support rails I had a bed liner sprayed in. I can easily install and remove the hitch. 337360

This is a well made and engineered product. I really like how tight and rattle free the hitch is. Setup takes some time to get it just right, but worth the time. The down side is changes made to the kit in the past year or two. The instructions now state to drill some very oversized holes in the bed based off measurements. I find this method to be sloppy. The first kit I used included a pointed bolt. This bolt was installed from under the vehicle and tightened from the bottom to make a mark in the bed of the truck. This made drilling far more accurate and the holes in the bed could be much smaller. I will use this method over the new method. The results are a cleaner and more precise installation. 34881

After consulting with seller I decided on the under bed mount RP30868 for my 2017 Chevy 2500HD truck. The how-to videos are SUPER helpful. the instructions were not very clear about measuring points but the etrailer video showed me exactly where to measure from. 641025

I love this system, this is my second truck with it. it’s not terribly difficult to install either, as long as your comfortable drilling holes in your new truckbed, and have a huge torque wrench. Will purchase again when I get my next truck. I installed this in a 2013 Denali SRW, and a 2016 Silverado 3500 DRW. And used a Demco autoslider with Ford factory pins. They work perfectly together. 464049

I recently paid a local company to install the Under-Bed Rail kit on my GMC 2500HD. The total install time with wiring was 5 hrs. It is a beautiful set up. The only thing you see in the box are 4 rubber plugs where the B&W hitch clamps in. Great set up. The box is 100% useable. 381317

If you want to use another hitch, you will...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch with Below bed Rails for 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 6-1/2 Foot bed
  • There are high-quality options for you to install a fifth-wheel hitch with under bed rails on your 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 with a 6-1/2 foot bed without the factory rail kit. The first hitch is the one I recommend, the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W, which installs with the Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1016-5W. The rails double as a Turnoverball gooseneck hitch, and the Companion, which has a capacity of 20,000 lbs, features jaws which are 1" thick and provide full 360 degree...

  • Recommended Fifth-Wheel Hitch to Pair With Reese Revolution King Pin Hitch on 2015 Silverado 2500
  • There are a number of very good fifth-wheel hitches available for you to choose from, but their fit depends on the truck you have. In that regard, you will want to stay away from short-bed trucks, which you can classify as anything with a bed that is under 8 feet. The correct hitch is going to also depend on if you purchase a truck with a factory fifth-wheel prep package. Sliding hitches should not be used with the Revolution, and there are a few other fifth wheel hitches that are not...

  • Can I Put the B&W Companion for Ford Factory Puck System in a 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500
  • Since you have the B&W Companion that fits the Ford factory puck system, part # BWRVK3300, you can move it to your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. What you need is to install the Reese Elite under-bed kit for your Chevy, part # RP30868. This is an aftermarket under-bed kit that's made for the Reese Elite fifth wheel hitches; however its pucks line up and work with hitches that fit the Ford puck system. So your Ford B&W hitch will fit into the Reese Elite kit in the Chevy. I've linked...

  • Will B&W 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford OEM Pucks Fit Aftermarket Reese Elite Kit on 2017 GMC Sierra
  • If the under bed installation kit you have is the Reese # RP30868 then it will be compatible with B&W hitch # BWRVK3370 because the puck spacing is the same with the aftermarket kits as it is with the factory Ford kits (Reese makes both). But if your 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 has the factory puck system, which is made by Curt, then it will not fit.

  • B and W Companion Slider Recommendation for 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD With Ford Elite Rail Kit
  • If you have the Reese Elite underbed rail kit part # RP30868 installed in your 2016 GMC Sierra the correct slider B and W Companion is the part # BWRVB3370. This is the kit designed for Ford factory rail kits which are the exact same as the Reese Elite rail kits. The GM rail kit dimensions are much different. For the whole hitch assembly that includes the slider and the head you'd want the part # BWRVK3370.

  • Can Curt 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Used with Reese Elite Under Bed Rail Kit
  • Fifth-wheel hitches that use above-bed, industry-standard base rails like the excellent Curt Q25 # C16265 that you referenced can be used with the Reese Elite Under-Bed Rails # RP30868 but only by way of the Reese Rail Adapter # RP30156. The adapter mounts to the Reese Elite Pucks to provide industry-standard rails that are compatible with most hitches, including the Curt Q25. An important thing to keep in mind though is that the adapter features a maximum weight capacity of 20,000...

  • Under Bed Install Kit for Reese Elite on 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed
  • The Reese Elite Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30142 installs into your 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 using # RP30868. Since you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you may need a sliding hitch for turning clearance. Unfortunately, the Reese Elite cannot be converted to a slider so you would need an entirely new hitch, # RP30144. You may not need the sliding hitch. Especially if your trailer has a Sidewinder or Revolution pin box. If it doesn't already you may be able to replace the pin box with a Sidewinder....

It is the Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30868. This system is a confirmed fit for your truck and if you want to also add the 5th hole for the gooseneck you can do that using the Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Head Kit - 25,000 lbs # RP30158. • Is the Reese Elite Puck System for Chevy the Same Exact Configuration as the OEM GM Puck System?
  • The Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30868 are not the same puck configuration as the Factory GM puck system. However, they are in the same configuration as the Ford Factory puck System, so even if the Elite underbed system is used on a Chevy like the # RP30868 is intended for, you would use the 5th wheel hitch compatible with Ford OEM pucks for the perfect fit. So for your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500, the Reese Elite rail...

  • The Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit # RP30868 does not provide any height adjustment to account for the thickness of a spray-in bed liner. However, the normal installation steps still apply for spray-in liners (and bed mats) up to 1/4-inch thick. Drop-in liners can require trimming to allow for proper hitch installation but your spray-in liner will be fine so long as it does not exceed the 1/4-inch thickness.
