Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, we're going to review and install the Putco bumper insert, part number P87195. Now here's what the Putco insert's going to look like once it's installed. The insert itself is steel and has a really nice painted finished to resist rust and corrosion. Not only does it dress up the front of our truck and really make it look good, but it provides additional protection from things such as road debris, rocks and such from getting through the opening here in the bumper to our cooler. Now let's go ahead and show you just how easy it is to install. To begin our install, we're going to go ahead and open up the hood. We need to remove the fasteners here for the front cover.
To do that we're just going to take our flat blade screwdriver, we'll get underneath the center of the fastener, pry it up, then remove it completely. Now I can go ahead and repeat this same process for the other 11 fasteners. Now once we have all the fasteners removed, we can go ahead and take the cover off and set it aside for installation later. Next we'll remove the four 10 millimeter screws across the top of the grill. All right, now we're going to pull the grill out, away from the front of the truck and release any fasteners underneath. Once we have all of the fasteners popped free, we can go ahead and take the grill off the front of the truck.
As we turn it over, we can see the fasteners that we're securing it underneath. Now our grill insert's going to have a total of four attaching points. The lower two attachment points are going to reuse two of the manufacturer's bolts. They are here just at the bottom of the opening in the bumper, approximately four inches from the corner on each side. Now the head of each of these bolts, it's just a 10 millimeter. We'll hang on to the manufacturer's hardware as it will get reused for installing the insert. Now our top attaching points are going to reuse pre-drilled holes in the sheet metal, approximately two inches from the opening in the bumper.
To create this attaching point, we're going to use the clip nut provided. It'll slide over the sheet metal and lock into place at the pre-drilled hole. Then once our insert is installed, we'll put in the bolt and split lock washer. Keep in mind our attachment points here on one side will get repeated identically on the opposite side. We're now ready to install the insert. The insert will slide in just behind the bumper.
Be careful to work it in place, to not damage the cooler. Now once we set the insert in place, we'll go ahead and install our hardware. Got our new bolt going into the clip nut here at the top fastener, get it started hand tight first. Then reuse the manufacturer's bolt for the bottom fastener. Once we have all our hardware in place, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. We're now ready to go ahead and reinstall the grill. Just like that, our insert is installed, we're ready to hit the road. That will do it for the Putco Bar Style Bumper Insert, part number P87195 on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

I ordered this 3 yrs ago for my 2019 chevy 2500hd looks great after 3 yrs I just orders another one because I hit a deer and I t hit bumper and it also pushed in putco grill guard but I believed it saved the oil cooler from being damaged. It was about 1/2 inch away after Collison. I also bought it for preventing rocks or road debri from coming through and hitting the cooler. I highly recommend the putco guard. Looks good too.
It looks great. I required the help of a third hand to assist in the installation and it went very smoothly. Nice not have to take things apart to install this grill to protect the transmission cooling rad.
Very nice looking piece for the front of the truck. I just wish the throat of the mounting brackets had been deeper so it wouldn't try to keep twisting off as you're tightening the grille to the bumper.
Purchased the Putco bar style stainless steel oil cooler grill for my 2015 GMC 3500 SLT dually as we are planning to take the rig to Alaska and don't want to have a semi thrown rock ruin our trip. The installation was simple and took all of 15 minutes. After installing I noticed how vulerable the air conditioning condenser is behind the stock GM grill so I may have need of another product from Etrailer where I have always enjoyed competitive pricing, knowledgeable, quick, and friendly service .
This insert is a big [redacted] joke!!

I was so impressed with the new Putco bumper insert, it looked great and hope it will keep rocks and bugs out of transmission cooler. The YouTube video really helped out but instructions were great too. I added a before & after pic. Thanks again.
Quality of product and fitment spot on. Be patient when peeling off protective coating. This was an easy project, thanks to your (etrailer) video instructions!! Again, be patient when reattaching the factory lowers bolts, it is tight in those areas.
