How to Install the Putco Bar Style Bumper Insert on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Putco Bar Style Bumper insert. This is in stainless steel with a black finish, part number is P87195. Here's what our grill insert is going to look like installed. As you can see, it really makes the front end look much nicer than before. Typically, what you've seen on your truck just is an open gap here. It's fine, it doesn't hurt anything but it just kind of looks like something is missing.

You see customer reviews, thought it was missing a panel, it didn't quite look finished off. So this is going to help to really clean up that look, give it a nice finished off look. Now this is heavy duty material, it's stainless steel, not going to have to worry about rusting and corrosion, it's got that nice black finish on it so it kind of just blends right in, almost like it came from the factory. Another thing that it does is it gives us some additional protection to the items located behind it. There's a line here. There's a cooler there.

If rocks and road debris happen to bounce up, we won't have to worry about them actually getting in there and causing any damage. Now to begin our installation on our grill insert, we need to first remove the cover that's here on the top. We've got four push pin fasteners along the front edge. There are going to be four back closer to the radiator area. And then on each outside we're going to have one and two. That will give us a total of twelve that we're going to remove.

Basically with these we just need to get the center popped up like that then the bottom will come with it. We'll get those all removed. Now the last one on our passenger side, you'll see there's this little weather stripping that comes over the top, you can just kind of lift that up and out of the way to get to it. Now we can just gently pull on this. We can get it removed and then we'll set that aside so we can reinstall it later. Now with that out of the way, that's going to uncover the four bolts that we need to remove across the back side here.

It's going to be right around that edge of the front grill. We'll need a ten millimeter socket for this, we'll just get them pulled out. Now we'll gently pull up and out on the grill, just work our way across. Now basically you've got a couple of little tabs here at the top and at each section they're going to be pressure clips that hold our grill in place. We just want to get those separated. Now we'll lift this up and out of the way and set it aside somewhere safe. Now right here along the bottom edge, this is where our insert is going to fit, right here on the back side, there's going to be two bolts that are ten millimeters. One right here and one right here. We need to get those removed. Now right here there are going to be two perches, one on each side. One here and one on the passenger side. That's kind of where our grill fits down and in. It's got a couple of alignment tabs on the bottom. If we go straight down from there, that bracket is going to to turn towards the front of the truck and just underneath there, you're either going to have a bolt that's in place or in our case, it's just an open oblong hole. We want to take our clip nuts, we're going to slide that onto that bracket with the nut facing towards the front of the vehicle. We'll do one on each side there. Once those clip into place, we can grab our grill insert. We'll slide this in from the top. We're going to align the tabs that go out with those clip nuts we just put in and then we can secure them with the provided bolt and lock washer. Now is also the time to grab the two bolts we removed before, bring those down and get those lined back up and get those started in. Now with everything started, we can just tighten those down. For the top bolts we'll use a seven sixteenths inch socket. All right. That's in nice and secure and now we're ready to put our grill back in place and re secure it with all the fasteners we previously removed. Now we're ready to drop our grill back down in place here. We want to line up those tabs. We can see this alignment pin that goes into a bracket there and then you'll also be able to see most of the clips in there. Once you've got everything aligned we'll just kind of firmly press in and it will clip into position for us. All right. We'll put those four bolts back in the top. Now we'll put that cover back on the top. That will complete our installation of the Putco Bar Style bumper insert. Part number P87195 on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500.
