Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings and the rear access panels to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed inside your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Hey everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2024 Volvo XC60. I'm gonna walk you through how to install the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness. Adding wiring into your vehicle is gonna give you a lot of different options, whether you have a cargo carrier that kind of blocks your lights and you need to maybe put some lights on the back of it, or maybe you pull a trailer and you need light functions for it. This is gonna be an easy plug and play option.
It's gonna plug in behind each taillight. Good thing is battery's in the back so you can wire directly to your battery and it's gonna give you all of your proper lighting function, your brake signals, turn signals, and your running lights. This wiring harness is gonna be designed to live inside the vehicle, so when you want to use it, you basically run it over top of the threshold. It is not gonna damage a wire, which is a lot of concerns that people may have. As long as you keep it away from this connection, it'll be fine.
It does not smash the wire because it's running over the rubber seam there. When you're not using it, you simply take it, put it right down with your spare tire, until next time you want to use it, pull it out, run it over your seam, close your hatch, plug it into your trailer, and you're ready to go. It's also gonna come with a dust cap, so when it's in storage, you don't have to worry about any dirt or grime or anything like that getting on your connections. This is one of the two wiring harnesses available for this vehicle. The other one is gonna be a splice in, which means you would have to go in behind each taillight, find the factory wires that make the proper signals, and then you'd have to splice into that factory wiring.
This is a simple one because it plugs directly into the back of the taillight and into the factory wiring on the vehicles. You don't have to do any splicing. I would recommend if this is an option, go with the one that's plug and play instead of the splicing. As far as the installation, as I mentioned, it's pretty simple and straightforward. You are gonna have to take out the panels here in the middle.
Take out a couple of bolts here on the side to pull this side panels off or out enough to reach back in there to get to your taillight. Other than that, it's just basically running wires. If it's something you may not have the time or the room to do, check out our dealer locator. Find someone near you that's able to put it in. If you're wanting to give it a try, I promise you you can do it on the ground. You can do it in your garage or in your driveway with a few simple tools. If you wanna give it a try, follow along and I'll walk through how to do it now. To begin your installation, you're gonna start by removing your floor coverings, including your spare tire. Then we're gonna take an eight millimeter socket on each side, you're gonna have a bolt right here, remove that bolt. (tool buzzes) You're gonna need a 10 millimeter socket and a very small flathead screwdriver. Your tie downs, there's a little open end right there. You need to try to pop this up. Try not to break it. It might be better if you have a pick with a little hook on it. You're gonna have one here and you're gonna have one in that corner on each side. You're gonna remove both of them. (tool buzzes) Your threshold, come right down here, you're gonna have a bolt here. We're gonna go back to the eight millimeter. You're gonna have one on this side. (tool buzzes) We are gonna pop our threshold out, set it aside. Next we're gonna remove our threshold and set it aside. On our driver's side, we're gonna take a trim panel tool. There's a clip that goes in right here. We need to get our trim panel tool back behind this panel and pop that loose. On your passenger side, it's gonna be a little bit easier because this is a piece of hardboard here on this edge, so it's hard to get it over the top of this. So on the driver's side, we're gonna pull from the top up like this, lift and pull it over the top. We're gonna look back in here. This big piece of foam right here, we're gonna pull this out and your wiring is right here and plugged right into the back of the taillight. What you are gonna do is you're gonna reach in, you're gonna push this little tab right here. We're gonna take this end with our yellow, brown, and red wire, on our driver's side, we are gonna plug one end into the factory wiring. The other end's gonna go back into the tail light. We're gonna take the white wire shrink wrapped with the ring terminal on it, right here on this edge, that's a factory ground. Take a 10 millimeter socket, we're gonna remove that nut. Put that ring terminal on and then put this back on. (tool buzzes) We are gonna take this bundle of wire. It comes in your kit. You're gonna cut off about five or six feet because we're gonna be attaching it to our battery, which is right here. Strip off one end and the butt connector that comes in the kit. On your converter box, it's gonna have a black wire that's already stripped, other end of the butt connector and then crimp it together. Once we have our tape stuck to the back of our converter box, we're gonna take off the other side. We need to find a place to mount it, back behind this panel. I think what I'm gonna do is there's plenty of space right in here. It's not gonna interfere with anything. So before you get your box mounted back there, take your wires and run 'em right through this little opening right here. We need to take our box and mount it down as long as we can get it and as close to this edge as we can because our green wire's not gonna be long enough to get over there unless we get it down there. There is a flat spot down there. I am gonna push it over as far as I can and stick it right through the body of the vehicle there. Take your green wire, run it across the back here, right onto this opening, and then plug it into the back of the passenger side taillight like you did on the driver's side. Your extra green wire that you got here, it's eventually, when we go to put that threshold back in, it's gonna hide right behind it. You're gonna take your fuse holder, you're gonna put a buck connector on one end, ring terminal on the other. Take your black power wire, run it underneath this foam right over to where your battery is and I ran it right along over this side. Now we can cut it down the size and add on our fuse holder. Get it connected right to this side of the battery. Half inch socket. We're gonna take this large nut off and on our ring terminal, and then reinstall the nut. Install the fuse and then we'll test it out and make sure everything's working correctly. Now we're gonna test out our wiring, brake lights, running lights, left turn, right turn. Once you've tested it, you notice it's working correctly, go ahead and reinstall everything in reverse order from the way you took it out. You're ready to go. That gonna do it for a look at and installation of the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness on 2024 Volvo XC60.
This kit arrived safely and undamaged. It was packaged in a cardboard box inside a larger box that contained a receiver trailer hitch that was also ordered at the same time. Both will be installed later this week by a local trailer service company. Although there were a couple puncture holes in the large box hitch box, the hitch was in perfect condition.
FYI,the T-Connector box had been stapled to the inside of the hitch box. This smaller box was found loose inside the big box, having broken free from the staples during shipment.
everything fit nice install time fairly accurate. Harness was a little short so we had to move the box to a different location.
