Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, storage covers, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11141415

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Hopkins plugin vehicle wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2004 to 2011 Chevrolet Aveo5 hatchback vehicles. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and I'll show if this will work for your application. Now basically, this is gonna provide this four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights.

It is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately. And it will include everything laid out here on the table. The four-way wiring harness with the converter box, four-way dust cap, some length of wire, inline fuse holder with the fuse, terminal grease package, some cable ties, and a grounding screw. Now, this part will connect quickly and easily. Basically what you'll have to do is locate your connection points in your rear cargo area.

Plug in these T connectors right here. There's one on each side, the yellow wire connector is driver's side, green wires passenger side. Then there's a ground wire that you have to ground, and then there's a red power wire here that using this length of wire will allow you to run that up to the vehicle's battery to power this converter box. Now, it does include the circuit-protected taillight converter here to ensure that your vehicle's wire will match that of your trailer. This will provide protection against electrical shorts and overloads.

And as we mentioned, it's a powered module so it connects directly to your battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. But it is pretty simple. It does come with a set of installation instructions. All you have to do again is go to the back of the vehicle in the rear cargo area and it'll tell you where to find your connection points for these connectors right here. And as we mentioned, the connectors with the yellow wire, you'll connect on the driver's side.

The connectors with the green wire and the length of wire runs over to the passenger side. You'll plug those in. And then again, you'll need to connect your white wire with the eyelet on it, ground that to a nearby ground. If you don't have a nearby ground, you can use this grounding screw to make one. And then last thing is you have your power wire here and that's gotta run to the vehicle's battery in the front. So you'll use this length of wire and basically what you'll do is just connect one end of the wire like that, run the length of wire up to the front. When you get to the front, you don't wanna run this directly to your battery. You'll wanna run this through the inline fuse holder. So connect it with the butt connector there. And then the other side with the eyelet is what you'll connect to your battery. Once that's all connected, pop it open, take your included 20 amp fuse, stick it in there, close it and your system's gonna be all ready to go. As we mentioned, it comes with some terminal grease in this packet. Any electrical connection you make, put some terminal grease on it to protect it. And again, if you wanna put the four-way on here, you can just attach it and you can leave it on there. Once you get it on there, you can just stretch it all the way down. And once it's on there, you can leave it on there. But the nice thing about this four-way cover is if you're not plugged into a trailer, you can just put that over it and it'll protect those terminals from any damage or from the elements. Nice feature to have. Now always remember, if you have any questions regarding this product or any of our products, please don't hesitate to contact us via phone, chat, or email. Or if you've purchased any product from us, please send us pictures of it being used in your application 'cause we'd love to see how the product is working out for you. But that's gonna do it for a look at this Hopkins plugin vehicle wiring harness with the four-way flat trailer connector.
