Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna take a look at this Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with four-pole flat trailer connector. Now, this is a custom-fit wiring harness that is designed to fit your 2009 to 2013 Mazda 6, and on custom-fit products such as this kit, I do recommend using our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com and insert the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm that this works for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now, this harness is going to give you that four-pole flat trailer connector at the back of your Mazda 6 to power your trailer signal lights. This is also going to be compatible with five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters. And of course, those adapters are sold separately. And included here is a detachable dust cap for this four-pole flat connector that's going to cover up those connection points when this plug is not being used.
Now, this black box that we have here on the harness is a taillight converter that's going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer. This powered module connects directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. And these custom-fit T-connector plugs are going to plug into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger side. Now, you will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access that harness, but once you've plugged in these connectors, then you are just going to run this red hot lead wire up to your car battery and you're gonna do that with this wire connected with this butt connector to one end of this routed wire and then you're going to route the other end of this wire to your vehicle's battery and then just connect that end that you have routed with this second included butt connector on this fuse holder. And then you're going to connect the other end of this fuse holder with this ring terminal to the positive terminal on your battery.
And this does include a 20-amp fuse there and this cap is going to keep that fuse protected. Now, because most trailers run on a two-wire system wherein the brake and the turn signals are carried on one wire, the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they're compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions for your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's taillights. I do want to point out this will not affect how your taillights on your vehicle operates. Now, we do have a ground wire here with the terminal, with a ring terminal rather, that you will want to secure to with the included self-tapping screw to a metal surface that's going to be free of rust and corrosion and then that will give you that good ground that you need.
Now, it is recommended that you use a small amount of grease, which is included here, on all of your electrical connections, the plugs on your automobile, and the four-pole connector itself. This is going to help prevent corrosion. And once installation is complete, you can just take this four-way connector and stow it in your rear cargo area and then any excess or slack in your wiring can be secured with the included cable ties. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.
Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
