You lost your rear factory camera when you removed the tailgate, but you don't have to give up safety. This camera mounts on your license plate and plugs into your truck's harness to bring that view back to your screen when you back up.
Removing or replacing your tailgate usually means giving up the backup camera you've come to rely on. This kit solves that problem, letting you keep factory-style backup visuals with a replacement camera. It plugs right into your truck's original camera harness. There's no splicing, no extra adapters, and your view stays on the factory screen just like before. The camera mounts behind your license plate using your truck's existing hardware, so you get a clean look with minimal work.
This camera gives you a wide-angle view, so you catch bikes, trailers, or anything else sneaking up behind your bumper. You can tilt the camera to find the perfect angle for your setup. Even in low light, the camera gives you a detailed picture, so you're not squinting at the shadows. And with optional parking lines right on your factory display, lining up in tight spots or backing up to a trailer is much easier.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Brandmotion Factory Tailgate Harness with bullet camera. Now, this has been designed to fit your 2019 and newer Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 and your 2022 Silverado and Sierra 1500 LTD Limited models. Then finally, your 2020 and newer Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500s. On custom fit parts such as this camera and harness, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Simply input the air make and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you, or if we have something comparable that will work for you.
Now this harness is designed to give you a factory style connection, allowing for a clean and integrated camera setup. So this is gonna be ideal for you. For instance, if you've removed your factory tailgate for a fifth wheel trailer or utility use, but you wanna retain a backup camera view. So as you can see here, this does include the camera with this license plate frame. So this will just mount where your license plate is mounted and it'll give you a nice firm connection for this camera.
So you're not gonna have to worry about it moving or falling off or anything like that. As you can see, the camera will be adjustable, so this is gonna be a very easy install. This is going to integrate into your existing display. The OEM fit connector is gonna fit perfectly into your factory connector. Parking grid lines are gonna be available.
Of course, you're gonna get color images with automatic white balance, camera's gonna be waterproof with an anti-fog lens. This doesn't include any hardware, so you'll just use the screws that are currently holding your license plate frame in into place. The harness length is about 20 feet long. I think that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.
Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.
Plug and play and works great. Only to would say is that the image was transposed initially as if it was designed to be mounted on the front. Simply snipped the white wire which corrected the concern. Hopefully will hold up well. I mounted it on my salt spreader. Big help. Wish I had found this a couple of years ago.
Does not work with my LT trim level truck, this one is only for the work truck and custom once I researched on the brand motion website. That is not clear here. On the LT and above it uses a different connector.
The first one sent would not mate to my factory connector, the female slots got crushed while trying to get it installed.
I just received a replacement and it too will not make with my factory connector. I worked it in slowly and carefully and it went to the point of releasing the white connection bar but it will not go any further and I don't know how much force I should apply to try and get it to seat.
I'm thinking it isn't going to work with my 2026 3500HD.
I think I am going to have to go with a factory relocation kit and wireless to monitor the bikes behind the slide in truck camper.
Yes, it mounts to the license plate. Yes, it connects to the factory harnesses, but it does no good because it does not work and your factory camera is a plug all by itself where this one doesn’t have a plug for the camera so it’s basically there for nothing.

Rob, I really appreciate you sharing this, and I’m sorry to hear it didn’t come together the way you expected. I can see how frustrating that would be, especially when everything seems like it should plug right in and work. This camera is designed to retain the backup camera function after removing the tailgate, but it does rely on matching up correctly with the factory wiring setup. It sounds like there may be a mismatch or connection issue with your specific setup. If you’re able to share a bit more detail about your vehicle or even a quick photo of the factory connection you’re working with, we’d be happy to take a closer look and help figure out what’s going on.
Did not work

Sorry to hear that Kyle. Can you please confirm your year, make, and model? I would like to see what we can do to get it working, sometimes it can be as easy as adding a fuse.

Sorry about that, Dave. It looks like we may have this listed wrong and I am working to get that updated. I am also working on getting the correct one added to our website. Would you like me to get a return set up for the one you have? We will of course issue a full credit back to you as this was our mistake.
