Built to handle serious weight, this hydraulic surge actuator is rated for 20,000 lbs gross towing weight and 2,000 lbs maximum tongue weight. It activates your trailer’s drum brakes automatically when the tow vehicle slows down, giving consistent braking pressure without relying on electronics. Its sturdy steel housing stays rigid even in tight turns or jackknife situations, keeping braking smooth and controlled under heavy loads.
Inside the actuator, a unique roller setup keeps the inner slide moving straight with less friction. That means less binding when the actuator compresses and more reliable braking response every time you slow down. The smooth telescoping action also helps cut down on wear so your system keeps working longer with fewer adjustments.
The built-in drop channel gives you five different mounting positions for your coupler (sold separately). You can set it up for the height you need so your trailer runs level behind your tow vehicle. The lower offset design adds extra clearance for tall trailers where a standard center-mount channel wouldn’t line up right. It also works with different hitch styles like a ball coupler, lunette ring, or clevis attachment for flexible setups.
This actuator comes primed and ready to weld onto a straight 3" wide trailer tongue. The primed outer casing and painted inner slide make it easy to finish the way you want after installation. Once welded in place, it’s a solid, permanent setup built for farm or construction trailers that see tough use every day.
A breakaway system is already built in so your trailer’s brakes activate automatically if it ever separates from the tow vehicle. It’s an extra layer of safety that helps protect your load and equipment during unexpected situations on the road or job site.

Thanks for coming back to let us know how you like the coupler after a year. What kind of trailer did you put this on, Kevin?
