Video Transcript for All About the Cable Lock and Hitch Lock for Kuat Transfer 1 Bike Rack

Today we're going to take a quick look at Kuat Cable Lock and Hitch Lock for the Kuat Transfer.Now, this is going to upgrade your transfer so that you can actually lock your bikes in place. It's going to just be a single lock for one bike. This is going to attach to the end of the upright arm that comes off of your transfer. It just attaches into the end of that arm. There's a little hole that goes through the locking mechanism here, and that's what's actually going to attach to that end piece. The rest of the cable is going to go down inside that arm, with the little stopper there to keep it from coming all the way out.

So, whenever you have this in place, this black end is actually going to be attached to the transfer. The cable comes out and then it's going to stop at that black portion there, as you can see.But then we can bring our cable around our handlebars or frame or another secure location on our bike, wrap it around, and then flip this silver piece around so that we can attach this silver end into that. And that's what's going to lock in place. The tumbler's going to be on the other end of that silver piece, so we'll actually use our keys. It does come with three keys, so our locks are going to be keyed alike between our hitch lock and the bike rack lock itself.

So, pretty easy system to use.This cable is going to be 27-1/2" long, and it has a 3/8" diameter, so it should be plenty long to get it around a secure location. It doesn't have to go all the way around the bike, just as long as it's attached to a point that nobody can take it off. So, it's probably best to stay away from the front or rear wheels, since those can typically be removed pretty easily, especially that front wheel.The cable is going to have a nice vinyl coating, so we don't have to worry about that scratching our bike, don't have to worry about abrasions there. On the inside of that, it's got a braided steel cable, so that's going to deter most people from taking it away. The tip of the end of our cable is going to be magnetic, so it helps it to stay in place at the end.

So it's just going to be a little bit of tension there to keep it from just flopping out whenever you don't need it.Then this cylinder is going to be the hitch lock. This goes onto the end of your hitch pin, locks that into place with this dust cover over the cylinder there. Again, this is going to have the same key as our cable lock. That makes it easy. We only have one key to worry about.

You can have one of these on your key chain, maybe one in your glove compartment, and then one at home as a spare.It also comes with some hardware to get everything attached. You'll have a security bolt that's going to go through our . the end of our cable lock, and it comes with the tool to tighten that down, and a locking nut to go to the other side. The nice thing about this is that it's a star bit, with the little dot in the center, so it's not a very common tool. So, most likely nobody's going to be able to just back out that bolt and nut and take your lock off.
