Features to know about

Built for a Clean Front End: Hidden Base Plate with Removable Arms

This setup keeps your front end looking stock when you’re not towing. The completely hidden design leaves no bulky brackets sticking out, and the removable arms twist off in seconds for a clean look. Receiver covers plug into the openings to keep out dirt and debris, so the sockets stay smooth and ready the next time you hook up.

Connect in Seconds: Twist-Lock Arms with Pin Securement

Hooking up is quick and easy thanks to the twist-lock design. Each arm slides into the receiver, rotates to lock, and secures with a pull pin—no tools or extra steps required. When you’re done towing, just reverse the motion to remove the arms and snap in the covers. It’s a simple setup that saves time whether you’re solo or getting ready to roll with a group.

Strength That Lasts: Steel Construction That Spreads the Load

The base plate bolts directly to the chassis using included hardware—no welding needed. Its sturdy steel build is powder coated to resist rust and corrosion, while the mounting design spreads towing forces evenly across the frame to help reduce stress on suspension parts. It’s built for confidence over thousands of miles of towing.

Adaptable for Multiple Tow Bar Systems: Secure Connections Every Time

This base plate pairs directly with Blue Ox tow bars for a solid link between your vehicle and motorhome. Prefer another system? It’s adaptable for use with Roadmaster tow bars using adapter RM-031 or RM-031-5 (sold separately) and with Demco tow bars using adapter DM9523041 (sold separately). Integrated mounting points make it easy to add an electrical connector bracket up front so your wiring stays tidy and accessible.

DIY-Ready Install: Straightforward Bolt-On Setup

You can install this kit at home without welding or special tools. Everything bolts securely to the chassis with the included hardware. Clear instructions guide you through each step for a straightforward install that feels right at home in a weekend garage project. Specs include 30-1/2" distance between brackets, 16-1/2" bracket height, and a 3-year warranty for added peace of mind.

The safety Cable installation left a little to be desired. I'm not sure if I installed it as designed. The cables we're really long enough to go aroiund the frame rails on our Jeep, under the Radiator mount, Aluminum Frame, I was only able to go around the Raditor mount on both sides. Didn't really seam like it was the right way, but I suspect it's only for if something comes loose that there isn't a catastrophic breakaway.

I was given a Blue Ox Tow Bar and needed Base Plates for my Ford F150. In my online search, E-Trailer had the best price, so I ordered them. Delivery was a few days earlier than expected. I read the installation instructions and it sounded fairly simple to install, so I decided to tackle it myself. I began it about six pm and had the job completed and cleaned up in just over two hours. The job required removal of the bumper and tow hooks and drilling of two holes. Also William at E-trailer was of great help in the correct parts and keeping me informed of the delivery.

After installing over 500 baseplates on various vehicles, this one was probably the toughest one . It had the off road package on it . But it fit great after I had to remove a lot that had been bolted up for 27yrs.

by:

Tried to install this baseplate. It was a challenge to say the least. It did not fit the frame of my Jeep YJ without making modifications to the mounting plates on the driver side. I had to use a cut off wheel and remove 3/16 of an inch from the driver side spacer (which is too long. See pictures) in order to get it to clear the frame. Also, instructions say to drill an additional 1/2 inch hole in the frame for a third mounting bolt. BUT....the internal frame construction doesn't allow the nut on a stick to pass under the existing reinforcements for the bolts that mount the steering gear to the frame. Nut is way too thick to pass under the internal tubing in the frame from manufacturer (AMC).

This was instilled on a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 truck. I watched your video online with this exact model truck and the words I remember most was “and we did not have to do any trimming”. Well my truck was certainly different than what was on video. Guess it’s because it’s a late build 2024 (end of September 2024) and the grill system was maybe what would appear on the 2025 models? There was lots of trimming involved. I also will tell you the mounting holes both for the frame and the bumper back plate did not line up and required some modifications to fit. I would like to say this job is not for the faint of heart. I luckily have a mechanical/machinist background so was able to get the job done. Have not tested it yet but will be soon. Good luck to those of you who are planning on installing it yourself. Just remember it can be done. Just take your time.

The Blue Ox base plate for my 2015 Kia Soul is well manufactured and, with a little bit of mechanical skill, easy to install. It fit perfectly without issues. Brad from etrailer provides a step-by-step installation video that is outstanding and nicely guides through the process from beginning to end. I highly recommend this Blue Ox base plate from etrailer.

by:

Well the blue ox base plate actually fits my turbo engine. The Curt didn't fit as advertised.

by:

Super high quality baseplate for towing by Blue Ox. Instructions, videos, shipping (one day!) and overall experience was awesome. A bit pricey but their quality and the additional support by E Trailer cannot be beat! BTW (E Trailer) the baseplate fits three different Jeep configurations but did not call out the Recon package. After looking at other brands which showed there's to fit the 3 variations AND the Recon, I figured it would fit and it DID. You should definitely upgrade to include the Recon Edition.

lways great to shop at etrailer, especially the tech experts. Royce did an awesome job with our order. Everything fit perfectly and the help video provided the guidance I needed.

We installed the baseplate on our 2023 Encore GX AWD as well as the light harness and breakaway switch. A couple of items were incorrect but Royce corrected the issues with no problems.

Thanks again etrailer!

2019 Ford Ranger baseplate worked and fitted fine for me. 73 yrs old took me a couple hours but took many breaks. Younger could do it less than hour I'm sure.
Also works fine with my Blue Ox tow bar.

Have always used your products because they are great. Unfortunately base plate is still in the box. Had to trade cars and didn't get to use it. Tried to call, just don't have 10-15 minutes to hold. Thanks for reaching out.

by:

Base plate and all hardware worked well and fit like a glove, instructions were easy to understand great product

by:

Doable for a skilled owner but not for the faint of heart. The first step, by the way, is to search for the e-trailer video of the e-trailer install on a 2018 Edge. The design of the vehicle frame and the baseplate have changed a bit beginning with the 2021 model, but it's close enough and there are some great tips. Thank you, e-trailer. The next must-do step is to download the pdf file of the BlueOx installation instructions. This item is shipped with the instructions printed in half-sheet brochure format. The photos are critical to understanding the steps and you can zoom in on a pc with the pdf file. Before starting the install, also read through all the instructions at least once. BlueOx could do purchasers a favor by specifying the exact hardware used for each step. There is a detailed parts list in the instructions with a description of each part, a part number and the quantity of each part included. But, when a step says "fasten with 3/8" hardware" you have to be able to look and determine which 3/8" hardware from the parts list is needed for that step rather than a different step. There is an "exploded" diagram also in the instructions, but even with a zoomed in pdf view, it can be confusing.

Now comments specific to a BX2677 for a 2021 Edge. In many of the photos, it helps to look at the photo while standing next to the vehicle because some of the photos are taken at angles that are not obvious until you compare them to the vehicle. Especially for the "shutter assembly" in step 8, it is very confusing exactly what part of that assembly is supposed to be cut away and removed, because the photos direct your attention to the section in the middle. The white lines on the top of the assembly in the right-hand photo were not obvious until I looked at a later step that showed the whole assembly removed (louvers and all.) The BlueOx customer service rep I called before I found the white lines did not know, either. He had to consult with a "fit tech."
The other issue I found is that the cross bar member 1/2" holes (not the outer elongated holes) were either drilled in the wrong place or BlueOx's engineering tolerances are too tight to allow for minor differences from one vehicle to another of the same year and model. I could not get the inner 1/2" bolts to line up with the corresponding baseplate holes. So I removed the two baseplates that had consumed so much time getting the blind nuts on the upper bolts. I assembled the baseplates to the crossbar and tried to reinstall the hole assembly onto the Edge. The top frame member holes from steps 9 and 10 would align on one side but not the other. So, another call to BlueOx customer service. The same rep as the first call told me I could either measure in case the holes were not drilled correctly and wait for a replacement, or use the baseplate holes as guides to ream out the holes. I chose the latter, but be forewarned that that 1/4 steel plate is tough on drill bits. Finally, I was two bolts from finishing the attachment of the baseplate Z-brackets to the lower frame members and the second of the two 3/8”-16 Whiz Nut w/ 14” Wire was damaged from the welding. So, I was back on the phone with BlueOx to order a replacement nut and a replacement corresponding 3/8" bolt that the threads were damaged by the bad nut. BlueOx sent them by FedEx for two day delivery. Even with some of the technical/quality issues, I give this a 5-star rating for the quality of the design, the sturdiness and the really, really good Blueox telephone customer service. (One last note - it helps to remove the horn assembly that for some reason only Ford knows why the wiring harness for it is on the facia, to also make more room to get down into the engine compartment for the other three wiring harnesses that have to be disconnected to remove the facia.)

  • How To Use Brake Buddy Select 3 On 2019 Ford Edge With Battery Disconnected
The Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System part # HM39524 is directly compatible with a 2019 Ford Edge. It connects directly to the battery so there won't be any issues if you have to disconnect the battery for towing. That said, you'd obviously need to attach the power and ground wires to the battery studs instead of the cables which run to the power distribution center since these will be removed or power cut to them.

  • Do I Need a Battery Disconnect for a 2021 Ford Edge?
We have run into this issue before actually and spoken to Roadmaster about it. The only solution that doesn't require the extreme amount of difficulty you have described is to install the Roadmaster Battery Disconnect for Towed Vehicle w/ Flat Tow Brake System item # RM-766. This part isn't listed as optional as far as flat towing your vehicle goes on Roadmaster's website. It's listed as one of the required parts. I have linked a couple of installation videos we've done on the previous...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2022 Ford Edge ST
Hey Dan, so your 2022 Ford Edge ST can be flat towed and we have the parts needed to do it but like all vehicles I wouldn't say the setup is overly difficult. There's a few things that have to be installed and some like the base plate kit can take a bit of time to install. The first thing you'd need is a base plate kit like the Blue Ox part # BX2677 which is one of the easier to use options for sure. In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables,...

  • Equipment Needed to Flat Tow 2021 Ford Edge
If your 2021 Ford Edge is an ST model, with the 2.7L Eco Boost engine it can be flat towed. Otherwise, it'll need to be trailered. For base plates, I'd recommend the Blue Ox # BX2677 base plate kit along with a # BX7380 Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. The tow bar is non binding for easy unhooking and is self centering so you don't need to have the vehicle perfectly lined up behind the motorhome. Just hook up and pull away, and the tow bar will align itself automatically. Safety cables are included...
