Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bars - RM-RBK5-RSSA

  • Roadmaster
  • Steering Stabilizer
  • Includes Mounting Hardware

The sturdy steel spring on this stabilizer keeps your vehicle in line by constantly working to maintain its position. Mount it between the steering mechanism and the chassis for a tight connection that will minimize wander and correct oversteering.

Features:

  • Compensates for oversteering and returns your vehicle to center
    • Tempered steel spring works to return to its normal state - when compressed, spring pushes back into neutral position; when extended, it pulls back
  • Attaches to the steering mechanism on one end and to the chassis undercarriage on the other
    • Tight connection between these components keeps steering firm and controlled
  • Helps you to maintain control of your vehicle in the event of crosswinds, rut tracking, road edging or a tire blowout
  • Reduces road fatigue - stabilizer keeps you centered so that you don't have to work as hard to steer
  • Installs in approximately 1 hour with no drilling or welding
  • Includes stabilizer, custom mounting brackets, hardware and installation instructions
  • Made in USA
  • Limited 1-year warranty

A variety of things can make your vehicle veer - crosswinds, uneven pavement, tire blowout. The key to a pleasant, and safe, driving experience is learning how to deal with these situations. Roadmaster's Reflex Steering Stabilizer works to return your vehicle to center when something happens that causes it to swerve or jolt. As a result, you won't have to oversteer in an attempt to stay in line, thus minimizing road fatigue.

The stabilizer attaches to your vehicle's tie rod on one end and to the frame on the other. A heavy-duty steel spring runs the length of the rod, constantly working to keep steering controlled. If you steer your vehicle one way and it gets pulled the opposite way, the spring will stretch momentarily and then quickly pull back to its normal state. If you oversteer your vehicle in the same direction it is already moving, the spring will compress for a moment but then push back out to its prior state. No matter how you steer or how the frame is pushed or pulled, your vehicle will always return to center.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a looks at Roadmaster's reflex steering stabilizer with mounting brackets for class A motor homes. You'll want to verify in our fit guide which part number fits your inaudible 00:00:10.Now we're taking a drive without our steering stabilizer installed so we can compare the differences. Right now you can see there, when I hit bumps, you can see the wheel jerk. Once we get our stabilizer installed, that will help minimize those jerks in the steering wheel. What this means for you, is you're going to have more control over your vehicle, as well as it's going to reduce fatigue when driving down the road, because you're not going to have to fight to hold it straight like you we're before. As we head into our test course here, you're going to notice as we go over the various terrains, car's steering wheel's going to react. We're going to start with something that will simulate uneven pavement.

You can really see here how it jerks the wheel. Now you have to fight it to keep it straight. Next, we're going to be going over something that's going to simulate potholes or speed bumps. You can see how it still jerks the wheel, but not as bad as our uneven pavement did. Another think you'll notice is that when you're turning, on some of them back country roads, your steering wheel will return to center, but we'll see how much more our stabilizer's going to make a difference in bringing our vehicle straight for us.

As of right now, it continues to turn left and is not straightening out.Once we get our steering stabilizer installed, we'll show you the difference. You can already tell when we go over our bumps, our steering wheel doesn't move nearly as much as it used to. It's much easier to maintain control. We come around our turns, you see we let go of the wheel and it immediately bring our steering wheel back to center. Unlike before, where our wheel kept at an angle and our RV just went right around in a circle all by itself.

Here we can let go and watch it return. Now, as you can see when we're turning, you'll see our spring expand and contract. It pulls our steering back to center. You can see here as we go over bumps, the dampener bringing our steering back to center right away. What this really means for you, is it's going to help reduce driver fatigue by keeping the steering wheel straight, returning to center, doing a lot of the work for you. It's going to give you an overall more stable ride by keeping that wheel straight.

You're going to feel safer and more confident going down the road. This is what our steering stabilizer's going to look like when it's installed. It's going to mount between your tie rod and your front axle. It's going to help keep your vehicle in a straight line going down the road. This will help reduce driver fatigue, because you won't have to fight that back and forth motion while going down the road. It will also help stabilize your vehicle, making for a safer trip. This works using the large spring installed on the shock. As it expands and contracts, it's going to want to return to its normal position. Since we have it installed with our wheels in a straight line, it's going to try to bring those wheels back to a straight line. The shock inside of it is going to help absorb those impacts in the road, so if you hit any potholes or uneven terrain, that's actually going to help dampen it, making so you don't have so much of a jarring motion up on the steering wheel inside the vehicle. The spring is made of a tempered steel, so it's going to be durable and last a long time. It has a rust resistant coating on it as well to help extend the life. This will help improve the safety of your motor home, especially on those long trips, because of high crosswinds that you may encounter in certain areas, uneven rough terrain, and in the even of a blowout it will help you maintain control so you can safely pull over. It comes with all the hardware you need to get it installed. There's no drilling required and it's a really easy quick install. Our customer William J. Had to say, "Our Winny Brave experienced violent front end oscillation at three different times; after driving over diagonal rail road tracks on two occasions and once again after a pothole I had the front end aligned and it needed it. The shop recommended the steering damper to remedy the oscillation problem. I drove the unit 36 miles without the addition of the damper and handling was improved, but it still drifted and changed directions with road surface changes. I have put another 36 miles on the unit since the damper addition and I can feel the change. The steering feels rock steady with no side to side drift or direction change, even some over some of our local rough roads. We are planning a trip that will take us back over the diagonal railroad tracks and I can't wait to see if the violent oscillation is gone for good. Initial indications are that the problem is cure."William J.'s right. I could tell a major difference just driving around on our test course here and the few moments we had with it. Compared to other suspension enhancements out there, such as sway bars and air bags, none of those are really going to achieve the same level of stability that this is on your steering when going over bumps. Those are going to be great to help prevent sway and other things, but not for that direction of center that this is going to bring back. That complete our look at Roadmaster's reflex steering stabilizer with mounting brackets for class A motor homes.

This stabilizer made my truck much safer to drive. When pulling a trailer, the truck was difficult to handle. Any line or imperfection in the pavement would lead the truck around and cause it to sway. It now handles much better. 571239

Works as expected. When I purchased my motor home, a used 2006 Jayco class c on a Ford E450 chassis the steering wheel wouldn’t center after negotiating a corner. It now returns like it should. 704387

I purchased this steering stabilizer thinking that my 18 year old motorhome would benefit with better handling while driving in crosswinds and minimizing push from 18 wheelers (just as the ad promised). Wind is a common challenge here in the Southwest. Unfortunately, after installing the stabilizer I found no measurable benefit or improvement. Surprising, since it replaced a stabilizer that was 18 years old and had 60k miles. 711424

FYI - Website says unconfirmed that it fits on 1998 Safari Trek, it does as it does have the P30-32 chassis. My rig already had the other upgrades, blue springs and the ball bearing bell crank. Before I installed this I had the feeling of front wheels still "riding on ice" now it is pretty much gone an driving is much much less effort. Great product at the price point! 699914

Ordered a steering stabilizer and rear sway bar to improve handling on my Ford E450 Class C. I’ll update the review once the parts are installed. Customer Service at etrailer is top notch. I was notified of a delay in shipment from the factory and they expedited it once received. This company has employees who do a great job and take care of their customers. The prices are competitive and their selection is large. Definitely recommend etrailer. 682175

Start by saying e trailer was great to deal with! I installed the roadmaster reflex on my 2014 Georgetown 360xl , it took about 1 hour, very easy I suggest watching the video first. I test drove it about 80 miles and love it. It takes most of the play out of the steering. Definitely recommend! 666818

Fantastic stabilizer! Installation was easy with a near perfect fit. After installing on my 2006 Chevy Express 3500 cutaway box van it completely eliminated the brake shimmy (which seemingly most all Chevy vans suffer from, especially under heavy load braking). Highly recommend this product! 247015

I have only driven my Winnie 5 miles since installing the Steering Stabilizer. Fortunately there was a very strong xwind (about 20 mph). I did not realize how strong the xwind was until I saw a large flag standing/snapping straight out, perpendicular to the Winnie. Very-very happy to NOT be fighting the wind. The real test will be my 2000 mile trip to AZ. Always strong winds thru mountainous areas in New Mexico. Happy Camper! 315542

We haven't installed these yet, so this is more a review of etrailer's service and shipping. All I can say is these guys know their stuff and are more than happy to share their wealth of experience with you prior to purchase and after the purchase. They will not leave you hanging and wondering how, when, where-ing your purchase. They have how-to videos, knowledge base articles, and vehicle match algorithms that all help you pick and install the correct product for your vehicle. The shipping is surprisingly fast.......fast arrived in two days. When I complete the install I will update this review with fit and performance data. So buy with confidence! Paul 581053

Wonderful! My new 2018 Thor ACE 29.4 F53 would wonder and very unpredictable steering from wind and passing trucks (was really a "white Knuckle" driving experience). After adding the RM-RBK22-RSSA steering shock it dramatically eliminated the wonder and effects from wind/trucks! This should be a factory standard item, but strongly encourage you to install if you are having these problems! Note: the instructions for positioning shocks are generic and not correct for placement on my rig, so use good judgment or call etrailer (nice folks!). 561321

Removing the nuts from the U bolt was a bear, but once that was done, installation was a breeze. Also, be aware that several on-line videos show the removal of the bolts next to the U clamp and NOT the U bolts- Got side tracked by that at first. Will road test next. 487071

Installed on class B rv Chevy 3500 Express chassis We boondock on N. F. S. land and most of the gravel roads are wash boardy. The steering wheel would go into a very bad wobble. This stabilizer stopped the shake. Steering on smooth roads seems better also. 603577

5 stars would buy again. The most noticeable improvement was from the sharp bumps and pot holes that would change steering angle. The assistance for return to center is nice as well. Add this along very large sway bars your Class C will drive much better. 476474

I have a Thor Vegas motorhome built on a Ford E-450 chassis. When on coming trucks and large vehicles passed it was a bit of a handful for a few seconds to control. This stabilizer made a big difference! Now you don't really notice any motion in the steering. It also took some of the "see saw" steering, away, that seems to be common in these motorhomes. I've also added larger sway bars, front and rear, which also improved the drivability! I would recommend this product for like applications. It is easy and quick to install and I also understand this is a great safety item for a front blowouts. 670880

I installed this on a 2013 Chevy Express 3500 class "C" motorhome chassis on a 2014 THOR motorhome. I did this on my driveway without lifting the motorhome. The fit was tight for ME, but I could reach everything to install the stabilizer. The install took about one hour. I test drove the motorhome and the set-up was fine.I drove the motorhome the next day over 450 miles, WHAT A DIFFERANCE! Follow the instructions and its an easy install. The only helpfull hint thats not in the instructions is that you can use a 1/4" open end wrench to hold the end of the strut piston to keep it from spinning when you tighten up the mounting nut. The piston end is flattened for this purpose. This with a set of bilistien shocks takes all the sway out of the unit. The crosswinds and semi trucks don't effect it like when it was factory set-up ! I recommend this stabilizer! 151281

Awesome product! Why don't these come standard on motorhomes?? Totally worth its weight in gold! I have a 2018 Thor Hurricane 30 ft Class A. Every gust of wind, passing semi, and rut in the road caused the coach to veer and sway. I fishtailed twice while driving because of a passing semi and a rut in the road. Now it drives like a dream! I am much more relaxed and don't have to constantly correct the steering. Several times, I have had the coach swerve due to wind, rut, or what have you, and before I can make a steering adjustment, the coach self corrected. It was simple to put on (I am by no means a mechanic), and worth every penny. I added this with the rear anti sway bar (also from etrailer) and now it is like driving a large truck down the road. It isn't what I would consider pleasurable (it is still a motorhome), but it definitely doesn't suck anymore. Seriously, these two items should be standard on all Class A motorhomes! Luckily they are easy to install yourself. Crystal K from etrailer also gave excellent customer service which coupled with the awesome product really made a great experience. She answered my questions beyond what is written on the website, followed up with email, and even called me to follow up when there was a communication issue (which was my fault by the way.) She was pleasant and professional. All in all, a really great experience and totally worth my time/money! 457160

My wife and I installed the steering stabilizer along with the front and rear sway bars in one afternoon in our driveway. The combination has virtually removed side to side sway. Most notable is the reduction in the coaches reaction to semi’s passing. When cornering or on entering/exiting driveway ramps the coach remains flat. 503343

Product is robust, mounting brackets are substantial. Installation can be a challenge - removing suspension u-bolt nuts can tax even a powerful impact gun, even after soaking with WD40. After that the unit installs easily. After a couple test drives I can definitely attest to the improvement in steering stability, much less tendency to track ruts in the roadway. Worth the investment. 148593

The stabilizer worked as advertised. It virtually stopped the proverbial “Semi-Push” I still had a little drift from side to side on a straight highway so I had the front my end aligned. That didn’t help but then I read a thread online that talked about tire pressures. The writer claimed that pressurizing the tires to RV specs was way too much pressure. My coach plackard calls for 120# at full load. Adjusting that for actual coach weight I arrived at a pressure of 110# but I still had some drift. I finally reduced the front tires to 97# and now, with the stabilizer and the correct tire pressure, the coach dropped he’s like a Trailways Bus. We put 9,000 miles on last summer going coast to coast and 545557

Thanks for the follow up and reply. I have checked with my contacts at Roadmaster and they indicated that that clamp is installed with a lock nut, so it should not be loose or get loose over time. If you would like for sense of mind you can definitely use some red Loctite like # LT37420
Loctite Threadlocker 262 - High Strength - Up to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts - 0.20-Fl-Oz Tube
$7.48
on the clamp hardware.

Helped a little, was easy to install but not what I was expecting. I wanted something that would firm up the steering a little bit. 502718

This is our 4th kit installed on customer vehicles - all GMC/Chevy 3500 - customers were all getting an uncontrollable, violent & dangerous shake - this is taking care of it!! Why they do not come out of factory with one installed is strange!! Bracket kit is an easy install - no drilling/new holes! Very happy with the product & free shipping was great too!! 157800

Roads near me are no shoulders, deep holes if you drop off, constant big trucks and wide loads running , so after installing this stabilizer bar it made all the difference in the world, I would recommend it very highly. 600192

Installed the roadmaster stabilizer on my 2017 F450 Fleetwood Jamboree and just got back from the test drive. Got the positioning just right on the first try. This with my sumo springs have completely transformed my ride. Excellent. 607577

I installed this product in less than an hour. Previous to this install my motor home would find every bump and crevice on the road which would be felt in my steering wheel. Post install my ride is smooth and much less stressful. Thank you! 291693

It worked very well and absorbed much of the road vib. I sold my RV and hope the new owner appreciates it as much as I did.
