Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Custer Light Mounting Box

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Custer light mounting box. This mounting box protects an exterior light from the elements. This would be great for your truck or trailer. It's made from a steel construction, it's very strong and durable. It's going to feature a really nice black powder coated finish. Adds a rugged look to the unit and it's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. Your light would mount right here inside the box using a mounting grommet, that is sold separately and available at etrailer.com with part number A45GB.

Now, when it comes to the installation of the box, this can be welded, bolted, or you could use some self-tapping screws. Mounting hardware is not included, and there are no pre-drilled mount holes on the box. A few measurements to go over with you real quick, starting with the diameter of the hole. That's going to give us a measurement of four and a half inches. Measuring this direction edge to edge is six and a half inches, and measuring this direction edge to edge is also six and a half inches. And then the thickness or the depth, front to back, measures right on three inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Custer light mounting box..

Bought these boxes so I can make some custom tail lights for my 51 Chevy. They shipped quickly. And seem to be well-built boxes. After I paint match them to the vehicle I drilled holes and installed them

by:

After having these boxes on my trailer for a year they've held up really well and we're very easy to install. They were exactly what I was looking for and the price was right in my budget. I would definitely recommend these to anybody looking for a set and I will definitely order from you guys again if I ever need anything.

by:

All around good experience! Person I dealt with was very knowledgeable about their products and order was received as expected.

by:

Still holding up great! I'm in South Texas, and these have very minimal rust where I drilled holes in them. Very happy overall with them!

One year has passed since I welded these onto my trailer and they are holding up great!

I have not installed the items purchased from etrailer and do not anticipate doing so in the next few weeks. I am very pleased with the appeared quality of the items. Your shipping and handling service could not be any better than it was. Your customer service was excellent . Keep up the great performance.

by:

Great service! Rebecca N is first class! I decided to change my order and she took the extra step to get me what I wanted. Put mounting boxes on flat bed pickup today, they worked perfect. Thank you.

Good quality lightbox still on the trailer today

by:

These light boxes are of good solid construction. They are powder coated which is supposed to be better or tougher than paint. That being said, both of these lamp boxes have chips to bare steel out of the coating. One even has light surface rust formed so not really a fresh break to the coating. They were placed into their shipment packaging from the manufacturer this way as they were padded quite well by etrailer.com prior to shipment to my shop. The padding ensured there was no damage in transit so simple deduction places lack of quality control upon the manufacturer. This is not a problem in my application as they will be painted body color of the unit of which they will install, but to other's whom plan to use them as supplied, it would be a disappointment. I know etrailer.com would stand behind the product but as mentioned, it is "no issue" with my application.

by:

I had to find a light mounting system that could take abuse and survive. These were the ticket as they have resisted atv collisions and being backed into stationary objects numerous times.

by:

They are exactly as they are described.

These guys at etrailer were very helpful and excellent in communication.

thank you very much,
Dan

  • Dimensions of Hole in Custer Light Mounting Box # MT-BOX4 and Matching Grommet
I went out to the warehouse and double-checked the dimensions of the Custer Light Mounting Box # MT-BOX4 and found that it does indeed have a 4" diameter. For a grommet you can use the 4" diameter round trailer tail lights like # A45GB. Take a look at the picture I made showing the dimensions of this grommet and you will see that the interior dimension measures 4" so it will slide right into the 4" hole of the Custer light Mounting Box # MT-BOX4

  • Can Steel Light Mounting Box be Used to Mount Lights High Up On a 2004 Sunseeker Motor Home
You would be able to tell pretty quick if the walls can support the lights and housing with just screws. Otherwise some type of anchor would be required like you would use in drywall. The difficulty of running the wires to the desired location is going to depend on how much room there is behind the walls to route the wiring. Otherwise you could route it on the outside of the trailer and use something to protect the wires, like loom # 459075 painted to match the exterior of the trailer...
