Very pleased to find this missing piece, the 1" shank to complete the Convert -a Ball product I purchased it an auction. Found the product vendor who in turn gave me a phone # to purchase the shank. Very helpful courteous agent. Received product in a very timely manner.
Beware! This product description is deceiving. The total length of the shank is 2 1/4 inches but it isn’t threaded the entire length. I ordered this after taking the ball hitch off of my truck and measuring what was on it. Upon receipt of the item I noticed this discrepancy. I tried to install this product but it wouldn’t work since the threading was too short. I contacted etrailer who immediately got back to me with shipping instructions and an included label. They wanted to charge me three times the original shipping to ship the product back but even worse I can’t return it because I tried to install the trailer hitch. Was a long time customer but will never purchase anything from them again. Spend your money anywhere else.
I’ve had a Convert-a-ball for nearly 30 years on my Ford truck. I got rear ended by another truck( which was totaled). The impact bent my 6” drop receiver and also bent my Convert-a-ball shank. The shank wasn’t bent so bad that it wouldn't work, you could hardly tell it was bent. I figured I would get a new one just in case.
I love these stainless steel shanks. No more rusty balls and shanks. The GTW is higher than steel also. This is my second purchase of the stainless shank. They mount solid and are pre-drilled for a safety cotter pin below the shank mounting bolt. No more worries about the shank bolt loosening. My first purchase was the stainless 2-ball kit that includes the shank with the 2" and 2 5/15" stainless steel balls. I used one of the balls from that kit on the latest ball mount and shank only purchase so both mounts and balls can be utilized for multiple trailers that require different drop and rise needs; quadrupling the versatility of the units. Some guys say why not just purchase the adjustable ball mount. I have one of those too. They are handy but heavy and they have multiple parts attached that create slop in more locations. Be prepared for some noisy towing unless you provide a safe way to eliminate the play at all attachment points.
Richard - 06/21/2019This simple unit has eliminated the need for a box full of receiver accessories in the back of my truck, and grease all over the place! With trailers having need for 1 7/8", 2", and 2 5/16" balls -- it is so convenient to simply swap balls for the trailer I intend to tow. One "trick" they do not advise, too, is to use the pin which keeps tab down to push out the Converta-balls' pin to enable removal/reinstall -- which keeps hands grease free! Indeed, a great product I surely wish I had had 30 years ago, and am now delighted -- for past three or four years -- that it has made my towing life so much more enjoyable! A very high quality product as well!

Great product, stainless steel makes certain it won't rust. If you haven't used these Convert-A-Ball's you've been missing out on the best way to change balls ever invented. I have been using them for over 15 years and won't use anything else! With multiple trailers and different size balls it's a must have.

We also picked up the shank cover to top it off. Keeps the grease on the shank & off of your clothing. Also protects the shank from the harsh weather elements, & road grime.

I was using 3 different ball mounts because I use 3 different ball sizes. Now its 1 ball mount with the 3 different ball sizes that are easily switched out. Saved time and money not having three mounts. Great quality of stainless steel.

If you pull different trailers you can`t beat this. Don`t get excited over the plain steel nut, stainless on stainless will "Gauld". I`ts almost impossible to remove the nut.
Been using this item for years on my other truck. Just bought another truck and had to prep it. Stainless steel is the only way to go with this item.
