Packed soil makes it harder for grass and food plot roots to get air and water. Pull this plugger behind your ATV or UTV to remove plugs of soil and open up the ground. Requires a Black Boar manual or electric implement lift (sold separately).
Foot traffic, equipment, and repeated use can pack the soil in your lawn or food plot, making it harder for water and air to reach the roots. Pull this plugger behind your ATV or UTV to remove small cores of dirt and leave openings across the ground. Water, air, and nutrients have a path into the soil without having to turn the whole area over.
Eight aerator blades rotate on an axle, and each blade has five plug tines. As the plugger rolls forward, those 40 tines press into the soil and pull out small plugs. Brackets secure the axle assembly to the Black Boar lift's crossbar. Some assembly is required. Aeration works best when the ground is slightly moist, giving the tines a chance to penetrate instead of skimming over dry, packed dirt. If the tines still aren't penetrating deeply enough, the Black Boar weight basket (CAM52PC - sold separately) mounts to the lift and holds two concrete blocks (not included) to add downward force.
This plugger attaches to the Black Boar manual implement lift (CAM82PC - sold separately) or the electric implement lift (CAM95PC - sold separately), not directly to your ATV or UTV hitch. Raise the plugger off the ground to move between areas, then lower it for aerating. The lift holds the implement at its working angle as it lowers.
To assemble either lift, you'll need a 3/4" wrench, a 3/4" socket (PTW38524 - sold separately), and a torque wrench (PT87ZR - sold separately) capable of 70 ft-lbs. The manual lift also requires a grease gun (L30-310 - sold separately) with moly lithium grease (LM54FR - sold separately). For the electric lift, you'll need a wrench or socket that fits your ATV or UTV battery terminals to connect the included wiring harness.
The extra weight of a lift and implement can make the back of your ATV sag. The Black Boar suspension lock (CAM85PC - sold separately) supports the rear suspension to limit sag during implement work.
The plugger is one of several Black Boar implements that work with the same lift. Use the chisel plow (CAM75PC - sold separately) to loosen compacted ground before planting or the disc harrow (CAM45PC - sold separately) to break up clods and work the topsoil with rotating discs. The cultipacker (CAM42PC - sold separately) breaks up remaining clods and firms a prepared seedbed.
There are other jobs beyond caring for soil and planting areas, too. The scrape blade (CAM25PC - sold separately) grades and smooths loosened soil, and the landscape rake (CAM65PC - sold separately) grooms gravel, clears loose debris, and smooths worked areas. You can add the implements that match your property work without buying another lift for each job.
